If you’d like to see just how far Tucker Carlson has fallen … — 25 Comments

  1. TC at his excruciating best…
…but I was waiting for the grating giggle.

    I feel shortchanged…

    Sigh.

  2. Rees-Mogg had him by the shorthairs and the best Tuck can do is…equivocate.

  3. The number of fans is not zero. I’m not sure how much more than zero it is, though, and I’m not sure how many of them believe what they believe because of Carlson.

That is, I’m not sure how people Carlson has converted to that nonsense, and how many already thought that and Carlson gives it a focus.

(Just as MAGA already existed, by other names, before Trump.)

  4. Just as long as one takes to heart—really comprehends, truly internalizes—that Churchill was THE villain of WWII…

  5. This clip shows some Russian propaganda which has taken hold among MAGA. The Russians claim that in absolute terms they have the fourth largest economy in the world, behind China, India, and the United States, and that Russia’s economy is so large that in per capita terms it exceeds not only that of Europe but also that of the United States. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve had self-proclaimed MAGA folks agree with it.

”And don’t think Carlson doesn’t have fans who look up to him and believe the horse manure he’s peddling.”

He was able to turn an awful lot of Republicans against Ukraine and toward Russia. Now he seems to be trying to do the same thing with Israel and its enemies. Fortunately it doesn’t seem to be taking hold nearly as much this time.

  6. FJB did more to turn the US against Ukraine with his decades of manifest corruption, Burisma and Hunter if you care to remember.

But isolationists have a strange fondness for totalitarian dictators, in this case the strong KGB man on the horse. Tucker just amplified it, even before he became a Moslem.

  7. @mkent: [Tucker] was able to turn an awful lot of Republicans against Ukraine and toward Russia.

I’d give Tucker credit for sensing, then activating MAGA-style isolationism.

It’s a conflict at the heart of the MAGA movement that makes Trump’s foreign policy moves problematic, especially with regard to Israel.

  8. ”FJB did more to turn the US against Ukraine with his decades of manifest corruption, Burisma and Hunter if you care to remember.”

Oh, I hold no fondness for FJB, Burisma, or Hunter Biden. But I do point out that Burisma was controlled by a Russian, not a Ukrainian, oligarch and that Hunter Biden received $3.5 million from the wife of the mayor of Moscow. So using the Bidens’ corruption to justify supporting Russia over Ukraine is, shall we say, backward.

Not that om does so, but I’ve run into plenty of MAGA both online and in real life who do. Fortunately Tucker Carlson’s current slide into anti-Semitism is discrediting his previous positions as well as his current ones. Some people are starting to come back around.

  9. What undercut Ukraine under Biden was not so much personal corruption as the ‘compare and contrast’ of spending billions to help Ukrainians repel or resist invasion, while actively encouraging invasion of our southern border and uncontrolled immigration, both legal and illegal elsewhere.

That combination came close to making help for Ukraine politically poisonous among Republicans (and not just hard-core MAGA, either).

  10. From 1960 to 1964 I attended St George’s Prep School near Newport, RI. Yearly we went to Tuoro Synagogue to learn about religious tolerance. This is the oldest synagogue in America.

25 or so years later Tucker Carlson went to the same school but by then it had changed. It had become Co-ed and then suffered a vicious sex molestation scandal that went on for years well after I left, before anyone blew the whistle.

    https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2016/07/st-georges-sex-abuse-scandals?srsltid=AU7gw4W7CNkkN8okwJyg3kbcBVW6U1WF55N1iqJv7NuLG8f0-NZ8TTP6

Tucker Carlson graduated from there in 1987 – he apparently learned nothing about religious tolerance in so far as Jews are concerned and given it was a Christian School we didn’t have many Jews.

He did later marry the Headmaster’s daughter.

  11. Interesting, John Galt. Tucker is a smiling, bigoted fool. FOOL.
Co-ed never makes things better. Never. I’ve seen it debase my old school, Haverford College. It was fine, men only, when I attended.

  12. While I agree with HC68, at 6:46 pm, I will add:
Ukraine’s actions (disappearing money) under POTUS Biden showed that corruption was widespread, well past Burisma & its Russian controller.
I recall that the GOP tried to get some way to audit the use of the $ billions Biden sent to Ukraine. But Biden blocked any accountability measures.
At some point, Zelensky fired a few people, supposedly due to corruption.
Still, we never got much insight on the spending of our generous “gifts”.

  13. Marlene:

There is an entire anti corruption law enforcement agency in Ukraine, NABU, that is independent and not controlled by Zekenski.

Isolationist Republicans completely ignore it because FJB made Ukraine corruption too easy a target. It seems they would rather ignore the largest, most corrupt, and lately, most violent country, Russia.

Low information voters aren’t only found on the left.

  14. Om, thanks for letting me know of NABU.
    I admit I haven’t studied Ukraine’s internal … well, anything deeply.
And FYI, I myself am not an isolationist*, and most certainly do believe that Russia/Putin is the real enemy who, unprovoked, attacked Ukraine, & continues to be hellbent on its capture and destruction. We need to help.
    In other regions, too.

    * Though compared to a globalist, I sometimes wish we could build a dome, & just focus on fixing America!

  15. IIRC, significant amounts of money that “Biden” directed towards Ukraine were siphoned off by “him” and redirected toward other Democratic-Party causes or orgs.

Creative bookkeeping, etc., AKA grandiose griftivity…

    (Gotta support the faithful…)

  16. ”I recall that the GOP tried to get some way to audit the use of the $ billions Biden sent to Ukraine.”

We sent very little money to Ukraine. Some during the Biden years, but not that much. What was reported as “$xx billion sent to Ukraine” was really the value of the military equipment we sent to Ukraine. Actually, it wasn’t even that. It was the value of the military equipment we bought for our own military to replace the old equipment we donated to Ukraine.

So the money got spent in America at American companies using American workers to build new equipment for the American military. Only the old equipment got sent to Ukraine, not the new equipment or the cash. And the “American boots on the ground in Ukraine” were not combat troops. They were auditors making sure the equipment properly got sent to the front lines where it was needed.

  17. From the same Carlson / Rees-Mogg debate — Carlson actually argues that England would have been better off not fighting Hitler:
    _____________________________

RM: It was classic good vs evil. We did the right thing.
TC: Is [Britain] a better country than it was?
    RM: To have defeated Hitler?
    RM: Yes.
TC: So, and you guarantee it.
    RM: America did.
TC: UK is a better country now?
RM: It’s a better country now. Otherwise, we’d be speaking German.
TC: Who cares? There are a lot of people in Britain who can’t speak English. So, it would be nice to have like at least a European language spoken in your country.
RM: No, I see no advantage of speaking German over any other language. We want to speak English. Thank you so much. It was classic good versus evil.

I had heard that Carlson made such arguments. I’m boggled to witness them in video.

  18. Recently Victor Davis Hanson has gone out of his way to refute TC on several of his newly-minted positions on current events. I find it very unusual that VDH would take the time to do this because he normally doesn’t conduct himself in this way. Maybe he sees TC as someone who can and might cause great damage if allowed to continue his rantings uncontested. This in itself could be concerning.

  19. I am perplexed by Tucker, or as perplexed as I can be over someone on whom I spend very little brain width. His fall seemed very rapid, and I don’t recall if it preceded or followed his departure from Fox News. Whichever it was, it was rapid and apparently a complete turnaround. One day I thought he was a rational reporter and analyst of news: the next he was frightening in his irrationality. Much too fast to be the result of a brain worm, it was more like someone bought him off.

  20. mkent, I was intrigued by your comment that Burisma…

    “…was controlled by a Russian, not a Ukrainian, oligarch…

since it seemed rather counter-intuitive (to me, at least) so I asked AI about it and received the following response:

who ran burisma and hired hunter biden

Mykola Zlochevsky owned and ran the Ukrainian natural gas company Burisma Holdings, and his company hired Hunter Biden to join its board of directors in 2014.

    ? Who Ran Burisma

    • Mykola Zlochevsky: A Ukrainian oligarch and former government official who served as Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources under Viktor Yanukovych.
    • Ownership: Zlochevsky founded Burisma and controlled it through holding companies like Brociti Investments…

    Is AI wrong on this?
    Am I missing something here?

  21. Funny thing about Churchill. He was a thoroughgoing patriot of his native land and did not especially like the Germans. Perhaps it had something to do with the Germanic tendency to instigate wars on the Continent? As they did in 1913. And as they would do again just two decades later. As he once said of the Germans,
“They’re either at your feet or at your throat.” But to suggest, as idiot Tucker has repeatedly asserted, that Germany was somehow the “victim” rather than the aggressor in WW II is evidence of either a complete lack of comprehension of historical fact or a willing intent to deceive. I am inclined to think it is the latter, but for what reason I cannot say. It is sad, regardless of Tucker’s stupidity to see just how low formerly Great Britain has fallen under its recent spineless and feckless leaders. I suppose they think that somehow that is the penance they must extract from the English for having once had an empire upon which the sun never set. Ironic how a matter of patriotic pride could be inverted by leftist quislings into one of shame. We were/are witnessing the same phenomenon here in the USA under the Obama/Biden administration, but one hopes it can be better resisted by the population at large, led by President Trump and his MAGA cohort.

But to suggest, as idiot Tucker has repeatedly asserted, that Germany was somehow the “victim” rather than the aggressor in WW II is evidence of either a complete lack of comprehension of historical fact or a willing intent to deceive.

But “idiot Tucker” was right. Germany WAS the victim in WW2. After all, the film Feldzug in Polen shows that Poland was the aggressor in starting WW2. 🙂
