Remember Hamas?
The peace deal has been limping along and supposedly has reached the point of Hamas agreeing to disarm, with a plan. I hesitate to comment or even to quote “experts” on it, because – if previous experience is any guide – we won’t know for quite some time what’s really going on. People tend to interpret agreements like this based on what their own expectations are and on what they already think of the parties involved.
But the article I linked to in the above paragraph balances what I consider a suitable amount of skepticism with a suitable amount of hope, and a realistic acknowledgment that we simply don’t know:
Hamas says it’s finally ready to lay down its weapons, a feat that could reshape the Middle East after nearly two decades of war and bloodshed — but even President Trump had questions over whether it will actually happen during a Cabinet meeting at Camp David on Friday.
If implemented, it would mark the first time Hamas has formally agreed to dismantle its military wing since seizing control of Gaza in 2007. …
Now, a 14-day period of implementation will begin, with an official with Trump’s Board of Peace describing it as the “rubber-meets-the-road” phase.
“An IRGC terror proxy — and that’s clearly what Hamas is — is saying we are going to disarm,” the official said. “These are a historic set of accomplishments in the Middle East against all odds.”
As Phase 2 moves forward, here are the five questions likely to determine whether it’s a historic breakthrough — or just another false dawn.
1. Will Hamas really surrender all of its weapons? …
2. Who makes sure Hamas isn’t hiding weapons? …
3. Will Israel trust the process enough to leave Gaza? …
4. Who takes over Gaza? …
5. Can Hamas survive without its guns?
I’m not especially optimistic. But I’d be extremely happy if things work out better than I think they will.

This is a must watch video about the “disarmament” of Hamas. Pesach Wolicki shows news reports/documents that show the bait and switch going on between the document (20 point peace plan) and what is being discussed in Cairo.
President Trump has to reinsert control over the process and bring it back to what was agreed to. The final document must be the starting document– the original Peace Plan.
What Hamas Just Did in Gaza CANNOT Be Ignored!

I wouldn’t trust them.
That it is probably to stop attacks on them but as soon as they regroup they will be back to terrorism
I got an email from a fellow retired FSO about this, and his question was “Are they insane?” There is no peace with rabid dogs. The only “trust” you have with one is that it will bite you as soon as it can.
Maybe the Hamas deal is actually part of an Iran play to get another ceasefire with the US.
Prsuming another party is a rational actor–according to our idea of same–may not apply as it might in one of Trump’s business deals.
Hamas will disarm as soon as they are offered the Studetenland.
As Nancy Pelosi once said, “you can take that to the bank.”
To be fair you can’t trust Hamas leadership as far as you can throw them (and they’re a bit chonky on average so that is not far). The few of these that remain are the same idiots who decided marching into a peace festival and killing folks indiscriminately (among other terrorist acts) was a great idea. That crime should be enough to have them all treated like the remaining leadership of WWII Germany at Nuremburg, and to ensure no one ever treats with them until Mossad and NILI catch up with them.
I trust Hamas … to SAY whatever they think is their interest.
The questions are all good, but especially how to verify disarmament, and who takes over Gaza.
Israel continues thinking somebody else can, and will, do the job of governing Gazans, Jew-hating Muslims happy to secretly support crimes against Jews. I don’t think anybody but Israel will be able & willing to rule as benign dictators to get Gazans to work at building Gaza up.
I hope the Partners For Peace, or whoever Trump is backing, is able to start reconstruction of Gaza with capitalism & human rights. If so, it won’t make a lot of sensational news, no dead Jews. Lack of Gaza news lately has been kinda positive in that sense.
