I’m tired of propaganda on both sides
Is there more of it on left versus right? Yes – if only because the left controls most of the press, the schools, and the entertainment world. But I find it just as annoying when it’s on the right, and what caught my eye recently was some on the right.
What I’m referring to is this tweet:

The underlying premise of the tweet is correct: that women and “people of color” – unless they’re Asian or Jewish – have been favored over white men for decades in so many fields.
But as soon as I saw that photo I knew it featured a small portion of what is the much larger group of Harvard Medical School graduates. I became curious to see the entire group, and it turns out there were about 156 graduates this past year, and this is their photo:
I hope you are able to enlarge it enough to see the people in more detail. I certainly see plenty of white men. I didn’t do a count, but the little photo in the tweet is not representative of the class as a whole. However, in order to suspect that, you have to know that Harvard is a very big school.
This is hardly the worst offense of propagandists. Not at all. And you may think it’s okay to fight fire with fire, or that it’s even necessary to do so. I prefer the truth, if I can find it; most of the time it’s bad enough, and it has the advantage of being true.
Yep. Give me truth, not propaganda.

It is unfortunate that this “fake news” tweet will be used to criticize anyone who takes the position–the very correct position–that straight, white men have, in fact been the subject of invidious discrimination. One wonders if it was posted by someone with specific intent that this be the result; a false flag or reverse race hoax, if you will. Of course, if it was indeed a hoax, it pales into insignificance when compared to the vast amount of back race hoaxes.
Not just propaganda, unfortunately, but also paid propaganda, and not restricted just to Carlson and his ilk.
For example, the “tweeter” “DaleStarkA10” is an influencer, got a couple of podcasts and an online shop which supports his ranching and markets his other products, and his website is run by Mint Media, a company involved in numerous campaigns promoting this and that:
So this isn’t just some guy on X with something to say. He’s a guy making his living promoting messages. They may not necessarily be bad messages, they may not be necessarily be wrong messages, but the same tools and money can and are used to promote all kinds of things, good and bad.
It’s marketing campaigns like the kind we’re used to from the pre-Internet days but it’s presenting themselves as though it’s 2003-era folks online sharing their thoughts because they’re passionate about something, the way our gracious hostess still does things.
Some of the people whose tweets some of us follow literally work for the government now, directly or indirectly, and some of them disclose this in a timely way and some of them don’t.
Don’t know if it’s propaganda or bullshit but $5k bribes to all adults IF we hold the house and senate is certainly another lie from the Donald , and yes I have TDS ,,, Trump Disappointment Syndrome.

I guess the “thinking” is: everyone in the country is a citizen, more or less.
Per the Digest of Education Statistics, 19,450 ‘doctoral’ degrees were awarded to white males in ‘health professions’. That supposedly does not include students imported from abroad. That’s out of 87,750 degrees awarded in ‘health professions’. White females were awarded 31,860 such degrees.

Per the same source, there were in 2021 20,000 degrees awarded in medicine (49% to men) and 7,400 degrees awarded in osteopathic medicine (53% to men). The digest does not give a full accounting of doctorates in health professions awarded; the professional degrees for which they do specify the precise field account for about 2/3 of all degrees in health professions awarded in 2021. Of the fields they specify, women have a large advantage in pharmacy, optometry, and veterinary medicine, not in other fields. I suspect the unspecified fields (which would encompass physical and occupational therapy, audiology and speech pathology, and nursing practice) account for the disparity.

You can see the inflation of titles in first professional degrees, btw. When my grandparents were of an age to consider professional school (ca. 1922), you had doctoral degrees in medicine, osteopathy, chiropractic, dentistry, veterinary medicine, and optometry. Optometry doctorates were quite novel (and optometry is not a recognized profession many places abroad). Chiropractic has always been considered a sketchy business. As late as the 1950s, ordinary physicians and surgeons did not trust the issue of osteopathic schools and such men were commonly debarred from the attending list of hospitals. So, you could say that degrees in medicine, dentistry, and veterinary medicine had a generalized respect. Ca. 1958, the doctorate in podiatric medicine appeared. In the last 40 years, they’ve been multiplying like kudzu: DPT, AuD, PharmD, DNP, &c. (You’ll notice also the LLB was replaced by the JD).

Yes, there is bias in all news sources. On the right I consider Newsmax slightly less biased than certainly FOX, but take all reporting with a teaspoon of salt. That’s part of the reason I go to CNN, Drudge, and MSNOW everyday. Not that I believe what they say, but to see WHAT they are saying and weigh it against the right leaning outlets. TousiTV has the most up to the minute reporting on the Middle East usually many hours ahead of Fox et al, but he certainly has an axe to grind also as born in the US, but lived in Iran until 1986 when the family escaped.
Anyone here a fan of the series Lioness? In a recent episode, Jo mentioned comparing the NYT to the Atlanta papers reporting on the the Battle of Gettysburg at the time of the battle. So I did using Chatgpt. As expected, the NYT praised the glorious victory, while the Atlanta papers either did not mention the battle, or vaguely suggested a Confederate victory, and only much later weakly reported the defeat. Yeah, the bias has been there all along.
Fact: The picture is from an institution that purposely lowered standards for minorities and shut out more qualified out whites and Asians, so pretty much every black person in the photo would have not gotten in without lowered standards and shutting out someone more qualified because of their race.
You think the crop is unfair, so maybe a picture of the more qualified whites and Asians who ere denied entry would be more appropriate.
Newsmax has a rather strange (if not unfortunate) tendency to take stories from the Associated Press…
