RIP Chuck Norris
Norris has died at 86. It sounds as though he was quite healthy and active until an extremely recent hospitalization:
Norris, who had just turned 86 earlier this month, is best remembered for his martial arts and action movie roles in the 1980s as well as for his role on the TV show “Walker, Texas Ranger,” which was one of my mother’s favorite shows. He served in the Air Force, which was where he learned karate and became a karate teacher. That’s how he met people like Steve McQueen, who encouraged him to get into the movies. He had a critical role in Bruce Lee’s “Way of the Dragon,” and his career was off and running.
I confess that Norris’ films and TV work weren’t the genre I generally watch, and so I’m not really familiar with him although I certainly knew who he was. But I thought I’d put up this thread for those of you who were fans of his – he certainly had many.
RIP.

I am definitely a long time fan of his… and have had a crush on him since my teenage years.
Dang this stinks on ice. He was an example of healthy and active into old age, something not too far off in my own potential future. From what I know of him he seemed to be a good person too. RIP
Thanks for the post, Neo.
I liked his show, catch reruns occasionally, and action movies of his. And the memes nothing can beat him. Sad to see his passing as for a old guy seemed he had long more to go.
RIP
RIP
Side note: A lot of the Chuck Norris internet memes were actually repurposed stuff from the SNL “Bill Braskey ” sketches.
I watched a few of his films and thought they were OK, but it wasn’t a focus of mine.
However, when this documentary came out, I was quite curious & had to watch it.
Chuck Norris vs. Communism

It’s about entertainment censorship in Romania, back in the day, and the subsequent black market offerings that sprouted up, including Chuck Norris films. With Romanian dubbing. 😉
Chuck Norris was the real deal. He trained and became with friends with Bruce Lee. No small honor.
Well drat.
Sorry to hear of your leaving, Mr. Chuck Norris.
I stand + salute you. I really do.
I’ve always thought that Chuck was a morally, good guy, + that: he made good, action/karate films, + that he was good to his friends + his family.
‘Til we meet again, Chuck Norris.
It was fun having this-ride-on-earth with you. Your films are fun.
Have a Good Day.
Cheers.
As a martial artist, Chuck Norris was the real deal. A karate champion with exquisite form in his katas. IMHO, in his prime he was unmatched by all but Bruce Lee who arguably was his superior.
Chuck Norris could dribble a bowling ball.
It is good to be informed or reminded that he was the real deal in terms of his marital arts skills.
Action thriller movies are about the only type I bother with anymore (probably related to loss of patience with too much internet surfing). It is also amazing to consider how well most of them hide the pulled punches and other less that lethal contacts that still knock people over, provide significant wounds, etc. Plus the larger group fight scenes that must involve considerable choreography and practice to achieve a “credible” and entertaining exhibit of violence [hopefully with the good guy or gal winning in the end].
So even when the plot lines and story lines are rather poor, there can still be considerable skill in such action displays. Norris managed to also handle some of the less violent components of his acting pretty well, as well.
Prayers for comfort for Chuck Norris’ family and loved ones. He was a conservative and a strong supporter of the Second Amendment. I didn’t follow him closely, but never heard anything negative about him.

I loved his cheesy, hammy action movies when I was a teenager and young adult. They were traditional “good guy vs bad guy” movies that were just fun and entertaining.
I never got into the Walker, Texas Ranger show because I just didn’t watch TV much back then, but both of my kids loved it.
Knowing that his fighting skills were real was an added bonus even if it was clearly choreographed in the movies.
As an added, added bonus, he was one of the few conservatives in Hollywood and although he didn’t “preach” at anyone, he didn’t shy away from his beliefs.
Hey, invasion USA is a Christmas movie.
