And what of the Iranian people? — 5 Comments

  1. Ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon announced tonight.

    Trump stated that the ceasefire was reached after separate conversations with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun.

    He also invited Aoun and Netanyahu to the White House for the first direct talks between the leaders of Lebanon and Israel since 1983.

    N12 News quoted Netanyahu as saying that Trump asked for the ceasefire, a request to which Netanyahu acquiesced.

    Hezbollah demanded that the ceasefire must not allow Israel freedom of movement and stated that the presence of Israeli troops in Lebanese territory grants the Lebanese the “right to resist,” according to a Reuters report.

    I’m not sure Hezbollah is entitled to a seat at the table anymore. Lebanon’s government may decide that, with Iran pretty much out of the picture, they can get rid of Hezbollah now.
    However, the two are interwoven through so much of the Lebanese social and political structure, that may be a long haul.

    Kind of like getting Leftists out of the US government.

    The follow-up story is encouraging, although some people will not be happy with Trump “expanding” his “endless” warfare.
    I would prefercthat Israel and America clean out the entirety of these terrorist operations while both countries still have forward momentum.

    A senior Israeli official told The Jerusalem Post that, unlike in the past, the United States now intends to actively lead efforts to disarm Hezbollah and is prepared to use American resources to achieve this goal. “Trump wants this to happen, so this time the US will be far more involved,” the official said.

    The official added that the current ceasefire terms are significantly better than those in November 2024, describing the situation as “much improved,” mainly because Hezbollah has suffered a substantial blow this time, including significant casualties, and because Israeli forces are present on the ground.

    Furthermore, hundreds of thousands of displaced residents who have fled southern Lebanon remain unable to return to their homes, increasing pressure on the Lebanese government to move forward in negotiations.

    The official emphasized that Israel will continue to act against any threat to civilians and soldiers, adding, “This is currently a ten-day ceasefire. For it to continue, the burden of proof lies with Lebanon and Hezbollah.”

    “We have changed the balance of security,” Netanyahu said.

  2. “… if the US finishes its part of the war, the Mossad will carry on inside Iran.”

    I think I observed that way back at the beginning, either here or over at Ace’s. Trump may have to promise us sensitive Americans “no boots on the ground”, but Israel is less squeamish. And their boots are XL Shitkicker Specials!

  3. A bit of a corrective;

    “Lebanese crossing Litani River southwards, despite repeated warnings;

  4. Ordinary Americans lack any “Need To Know” the blow-by-blow in Lebanon. I personally am sick and tired of blow-by- blow news of that part of the world. And there is no need to enhance the MSM’s anti-Israel (but not antisemitic! Choke, Gag, Choke) bias.

  5. Either the Iranian people rise up and become the Boots on the Ground, or they’ll be ruled by others with guns willing to kill them.

    The Prince isn’t yet calling for Iranians to get back in the streets. Probably wisely, with Shiite Arab Iraqis imported and ready to kill protesters.

    More regime leaders need to be killed, more regime fighters need to be unpaid.

    Worse before regime change & getting better.
