Interesting that Beau Brummel was a commoner and dandy who as a consequence steered men’s fashion to less expensive, more conservative styles. Less is more!

Maher has been pretty good on this lately.
I have the same issue with Maher that I do with Rowling, though: I’d have even more sympathy for their fight against the monster now if they hadn’t spent their adult lives feeding the monster and only lately noticed that it’s a monster.
Still, better late than never is a cliche but true.
Maher is on point, but notice the nervous reaction from his mostly-lefty audience. They’re squirming because he’s forcing them to look at something they really, really don’t want to look at.
When I was a Working Lad, I had the suits. I liked (and still do, but have no reason to wear them) Double Breasted Suits. Had Gray Suits, Pinstriped Suits. What I liked was the many colors of shirts that I could wear. Pink, Purple, Green, Red. And the Ties. I liked, and still own but don’t wear, ties with flowers and designs. AND HATS! All sorts of formal hats (no Top Hats though). I have to admit in my retirement I miss getting dressed up.

That sounds like quite an electic collection. As an engineer I started my career wearing a suit and tie all week [probably removing the jacket most of the time while in the office]; then we had casual Fridays; and then casual all week. Been retired for 18 years now and still have “dress” shirts from then; but really only one suit (that fits now). I presume that in Summer the whole country is as casual as Florida is almost all year round.
” I have to admit in my retirement I miss getting dressed up.” Maybe you should consider wearing a tie with a flag or other patriot motif before you begin to peruse Neo’s blog each day. 🙂
I actually like for men to wear a splash of color or flare, in ties shirts, & suits where appropriate.
My very staid father would never ever do such a thing.
As I got older, maybe jr. high, I bought him some ties & shirts with colors for fathers day & birthdays.
Not outlandish, just some colors & patterns.
I do think he’d have looked good in them.
They stayed in their packaging on a high shelf in his closet.
I guess that was not uncommon.
