I don’t think the fat lady has yet sung regarding an Iran attack — 21 Comments

  1. Indications — though few and sketchy as can be — are to my mind pointing toward bigger and badder than I’ve seen rehearsed among the running dog punditry. Trump, President Donald Trump, aims to win: win bigly, one might say. So whatever he decides in detail, I think we can make out his aim on the whole. That aim will make the Iranian people writ large more contented than they have been for a couple of decades now, is my guess. Rid of those who plague them, perhaps in no small measure by their own actions and works. They can be proud.

  2. Yep. Late ain’t never.

Trump pushes aides for ‘decisive’ military option on Iran as assets approach Middle East – report

Carriers, F-15Es and air defenses shift to Mideast as aides refine scenarios from IRGC targets to broader action; Tehran warns of retaliation while Washington debates goals and risks.

US President Donald Trump is pressing aides for what he calls “decisive” military options against Iran after pulling back from strikes last week, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing US officials.

  3. Sennacherib, I think there were seen consequences by going in too quickly, which is why President Trump pushed the pause button while we built up both offensive and defensive assets.

It’s my understanding President Trump urged the Israelis to stop their 12 day war against Iran. IMO, this could be a 30 day war, since we’ve changed the calculus from damaging the Islamic Republic of Iran to destroying the regime, and freeing the people of Iran from the tyrannical regime that lied their way to power in 1979.

  4. thinking that nothing will happen until the carrier group arrives could be a costly mistake on the part of the regime.

  5. When Trump says he will act, he does act.

Maybe the only politician in the US who does that.

    In Trump, We Trust.

  6. This dude’s always interesting:

    “Israel has caused the collapse of Turkey’s Indian Ocean monopoly;
“Israel changed the geopolitical situation in the Horn of Africa when it recognized Somaliland….”—https://www.israelnationalnews.com/news/421273

Israel’s got to be careful here, though. (Wouldn’t want to do anything to get on Erdogan’s bad side(!)….)

  7. The problem with the left / Democrats when it comes to Trump is that they only care about domestic politics, specifically gaining power. Their initial default is to attack him NOW with WHATEVER THEY HAVE.

It’s like the TACO thing they were pushing; just anti-Trump propaganda that doesn’t fly with a POTUS who bombs Iran and grabs Maduro.

    Don:

Just tell Richard Cook that. 🙂

  9. I hope so, too, that Trump attacks soon. Tho it’s far better to attack later and be successful in regime change, with few American casualties.
Isn’t losing 100 US lives far better than losing 1000 by going in sooner a week or two weeks earlier? Even if that means another 1000, or 10,000 peaceful protesters murdered by the regime? (Trump will be, is being blamed for the killing in any case.)

A key issue is the Persian army, as more Arab non-Iranians join the regime killers. There seem some reports of some Army units joining the protesters.
Despite Persian & many Arabs being Shia, there remains an ethnic issue.

I suspect, but also hope, that Mossad contacts are infecting many Persian soldiers with the idea that they will be fighting and losing, and be guilty of civilian murdering, unless they join the protests. While those who join early become heroes & leaders…

It’s too late for any Velvet revolution. More like the Serb-Croat war in the breakup of Yugoslavia (another country gone).

Are the Iranians ready to fight back, or only protest? And die? In a series of massacres, which will be called by some genocide?

Where is clear UN condemnation and description of the killing as crimes against humanity?

I also thought a lot of Greenland talk was a distraction from the buildup for Iranian regime change.

  10. If so, I hope it isn’t a case of “too little, too late”.

The protestors had momentum. They weren’t exactly winning in the streets, but they were holding their own, they were motivated by the idea that “Trump is coming to help us”, they even “renamed” streets after him.

    Then…crickets.

Tens of thousands of them were killed and no help came. I’m sure the question in their minds became “should we keep doing this and getting more and more of our neighbors and family members killed?”

The regime killed and arrested enough people to finally get the streets back under control.

I’m sure the Iranians that were so hopeful in the beginning are pretty damn disheartened now. If Trump attacks now, will it accomplish anything? Will the Iranians rise up again or will they assume he’s going to leave them twisting in the wind again?

    Time will tell.

  11. I read that China has started conducting military exercises in Iran. If true, then that could be causing the pause. China may be using their military personnel as human shields for the Iranian government. It isn’t that we couldn’t handle it, but to do so means attacking Chinese military personnel and assets.

  12. Momentum is key, if the Chinese saved the mullahs bacon it will be irresistible for them not to call the shots.

  13. Video on the capabilities of the Abraham Lincoln. Shutting down the Strait of Hormuz would be one of Iran’s objectives and crippling for the world’s economy. The Abraham Lincoln will make that harder, if not impossible for any length of time.

  14. Question might be whether hitting, or avoiding, foreign forces fighting for the regime are issues.
Hit them all, we’re not afraid of anybody. Miss them, we’re careful about who’s the real bad guy here.
Delay is bad for a number of reasons, but hitting a target which CHANGES everything is a pretty good coup for PR purposes, although those with more granular knowledge might see through it, along with the additional dead.
