Scalise’s condition…
He was shot in the hip, but also sustained internal injuries and has required several surgeries. His condition is more grave than originally thought.

Having myself been under the surgeon’s knife in the last few months, I really empathize with Congressman Scalise’s situation. May his surgeons be skilled and make all the right decisions. With that and God’s Mercy he may survive and recover. Let it be so.
The police who took on the shooter are due great honor. Hand guns against a rifle. Willing to be in the line of fire and take the shooter down. Wow!
Our firing range is the only one for fifty miles around. It is used by a large number of law enforcement officers. When I go there to do my shooting, it warms the cockles of my heart to see these men and women honing their skills. Skills that can save lives when a mad man (yes, most of the shooters are mental cases) starts shooting at innocent people.
Hopes and prayers for Scalise’s recovery.
Seems a matter of “luck” there were two LE officers present, even with two (or more?) Senators there.
Maybe there ought to be a little more security behind groupings of Congress people?
Probably not feasible or necessary to assign each member a security detail, but might be reasonable to have security detail assignable to specific events, meetings, etc..
It was hardly ‘luck’ that the Capitol Police were there. Since Scalise is part the House leadership he receives a security detail. That is why they were there.
We’re all so accustomed to the miracles of modern medicine and science that we hardly pause to think how Just One Terrible Minute -car accident, ski injury, shooting rampage, even a fall in a bathtub- can have what’s politely known as “life-altering consequences”.
Prayers for Rep Scalise and his family.
I heard the rifle involved was an SKS–a 7.62mm round hitting any bone is bad enough but the pelvis isn’t just any bone. If he makes it he has a long and painful recovery ahead of him….
I have an SKS, my only semi-auto rifle. There are adaptations that allow it to accept detachable magazines, otherwise, like my SKS, it requires 10 round stripper clips to reload. With clips it can be reloaded in a few seconds.
The would be assassin was from Illinois, one of the most restrictive states when it comes to the 2nd. So this leftwing assassin knew how to handle his SKS. Fortunately he was not skilled when it comes to hitting what you aim at.
I wish Scalises a full recovery.
The 7.62 x 39 round is roughly on par with the 30-30. A hit to the pelvis will send bone shards that cause damage beyond the travel of the bullet once it hits bone.
I can’t keep up: it was an AR-15… then it was an M-4 … now it’s an SKS…
Does ANYONE in the media know ANYTHING about modern weapons?
@Griffin – I think you missed my point.
I have been praying for Scalise, I understand he has a young family . A tough road ahead for him, God give him the strength.
