True-blue Virginia. And then there’s Florida.
Right on schedule, Virginia is turning into a blue state as a result of immigration:
Each year the federal government prints millions of visas and distributes these admission tickets to the poorest and least-developed nations in the world…
A census study entitled “Immigrants in Virginia,” released by University of Virginia (UVA) researchers, documented the phenomenon: “Until 1970, only 1 in 100 Virginians was born outside of the United States; by 2012, 1 in every 9 Virginians is foreign-born.”…
UVA’s report explains that more than three out of four of Virginia immigrants (77 percent) are coming from either Latin America or Asia””immigration from Europe, the report writes, “lag[s] far behind” representing only 10 percent of Virginia’s immigrant population. This is consistent with trends nationwide. According to the 2013 Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Immigration Yearbook, only 8.7 percent of green cards issued by the federal government went to immigrants born in Europe, a product of immigration changes pushed through by Ted Kennedy in 1965.
DHS’ yearbook, however, does not provide information on parental nativity”“ in other words, it doesn’t say whether an immigrant from the United Kingdom may be the child of Saudi parents.
Additionally, according to DHS, of those refugees issued admissions slips into the United States, 75 percent came from four countries”“ Iraq, Burma, Somalia and Bhutan”“ while another 15 percent came from Iran, Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea and the Dominican Republic.
Large numbers of these settlers handpicked by the federal government have come to Virginia.
This has been done with little national fanfare (I have no idea whether it’s a big deal locally), and with no need for the locals to acquiesce at the change in their community and little opportunity for meaningful action against it. I strongly suspect that, if people there do protest, they are shouted down as racists.
It’s a brilliant approach by the left. It works, and by the time anyone is aware of what it means, the demographics and politics of a state have changed—perhaps forever, as seemingly happened in California.
Speaking of California, please refresh your memory on the history of Proposition 187 there. Some day I hope to write a longer post on the subject, although today isn’t that day. Today I’ll just mention that Proposition 187 was passed in California in 1994 and nicknamed “Save Our State.” It was designed to halt the benefits already flowing in California to illegal immigrants. Although it passed by the wide margin of approximately 59% to 41%, ultimately the will of the people didn’t stick, because of a concerted legal assault by the left in the federal court system, and the failure of a Democrat as governor, Gray Davis (who succeeded Republican Pete Wilson) to defend it there.
Sound familiar?
One more thing—there’s another article today about a somewhat different kind of immigration that might be influencing the political makeup of a very important swing state. This time we’re talking about Florida, which is experiencing an enormous influx of people fleeing economic problems in Puerto Rico. They are already citizens, and although when living in Puerto Rico they cannot vote in presidential elections, once they become residents of Florida they are like any other (non-felonious) citizen who resides there, and they can.
Interestingly enough, however, it’s not clear which party most of the new arrivals affiliate with. At least, that’s what the WaPo article says:
Puerto Rican voters tend to lean Democratic, but a great number of the newcomers do not identify with any party, making them appealing targets for politicians and recruiters on both sides.
And, according to the article, both parties are courting them with vigor.
Birth right citizenship is how the Dems rule us for the next 50 years.
But birth right citizenship is not settled law. If birth right citizenship was the law, then why did a statute have to be enacted after the 14th Amendment was adopted in order to make Native Americans citizens?
The first GOP candidate that says she or he will order the AG to prosecute such a case will get a huge bump up. Hope it is Carly.
Could also attack birthright citizenship with a statute.
The great Judge Posner calls birthright citizenship “foolishness.” Libs can’t attack him.
Cornhead:
Here’s something I wrote previously on birthright citizenship.
They are openly trying this with a Turn Texas Blue campaign here in Texas.
It’s true in Virginia. At my last doctors appt they asked if I’d traveled to any foreign countries. I told them – just Walmart. Joke wasted, the nurse didn’t get it. Found out yesterday that the HS my kids graduated from 10yrs ago is now 60% minority. I know it wasn’t anywhere near that high then. It is kind of strange to go shopping and feel that a “typical white person” such as myself is now in the minority
75 percent came from four countries— Iraq, Burma, Somalia and Bhutan— while another 15 percent came from Iran, Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea and the Dominican Republic.
All places with great constitutional histories and shoes.
They will have to be taught to stop using their hands and learn to use toilet paper instead. DR is thrown in, probably doesn’t count for more than 0.5%.
But hey! 20% of El Salvador is here, illegally.
Ruth H: yep. the right needs a keep Tx red movement.
Once Tx turns there is no map to victory for Repubs.
These migrants are coming from rat hole countries because they are rat holes. How do we convince them not to make the U.S. a rat hole?
We can see the process in the migration from New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania to North Carolina. The Yankees vote liberal to make North Carolina like what they left.
The good news is anyone in America who is not of Sub Saharan ancestry considers themselves white. The left pushes the minority label for Hispanics because seeing them as white loses the victim card.
Neo
I didn’t recall your post (or my comment) from last year.
If a GOP candidate called for such a law, that person would immediately stand out from the crowd. The key point is that someone is calling for real action completely contrary to the desires of the Rulling Class. Add in the call for a moriatoreum on all immigration, and that candidate is a star.
The Dems, of course, would play the race card all day because it threatens their hegemony for the next 50 years. But that’s the whole point: Defeating Hillary and the Dems.
We need a politician who is for Americans; not the Ruling Class.
Cornhead:
Vitter is still in the Senate, and he has recently tried to reintroduce the bill. Here’s more.
I can’t get too much on what happened, but my guess is that the bill either dies in committee or languishes there. But I also think it’s interesting that we’ve heard so little about it.
There are people like Vitter who’ve been working on this. You wrote:
Well, Vitter isn’t a candidate, he’s already a senator. But note how little we’ve heard of this, and how he’s not “a star.”
Actually, I may do some more research on this and write a post about it, because I think it’s very interesting and quite important in terms of what happens to ideas like this.
I think the Democrats are dumb for assuming most immigrants are going to vote for them. Really dumb.
I have some old friends who are working on their citizenship as we speak. They are educate people from a South American country that has gone down a bad road recently. They get that these liberal policies do not work and don’t want to see such crap in America. There are more people like this than you think.
Vitter intends to be Louisiana’s next governor. I am afraid he has figured out that it is a waste of time to be a member of the world’s greatest deliberative body. He put up with Reid, and what does he get? McConnell.
He is a good man.
I thought Romney would win the last presidential election. One of my friends told me that there were too many people with an entitlement mentality and Obama had promised them free stuff. He asked, who do you think they will vote for, Santa Clause or the Grinch? They voted for Santa Clause. Santa Clause will always win.
These demographic grand-tactics work right up until the economy implodes.
During the early stages of an economic implosion, the central government ALWAYS papers over the travail.
( Or, in ancient societies, dilutes the specie.)
“There was once a lady from Niger, who smiled as she rode on a Tiger…”
Today’s Democrats who wish to throw open the borders to get more votes–in the short run–, must think that once the majority in their locales speak a foreign language, they will continue to vote for people who speak English.
Doesn’t happen in SoCal, I can assure you. Officials with European surnames (except Spanish) have a lot in common with hen’s teeth.

The crackpots and paranoid freaks seem to think Hussein hasn’t killed anyone nor executed them. They can continue to think so as things change around them. Perhaps when the American population is reduced to a tenth, they will become the majority opinion once more.
As for Democrat votes, slaves generated political leverage and votes for the owners. The slaves themselves didn’t get a say in how their votes were to be used. The owners and Democrat politicians were the masters.
People are misguided if they think Demons merely hope that immigrants will vote for them. Slaves don’t get to choose who they vote for, that’s not the point.
Anybody who still thinks that we can vote our way out of this is delusional.
White English-speaking Americans are going to be a despised minority in the future. It will be open season on us. Beatings, robbery, rape, murder; you name it. Don’t dare fight back, because that’s “racist”.
The Federal government is now wholly criminal and illegitimate, with all that that implies.
Elections were always meaningless in an oligarchy. Even in 1850, the Democrats controlled most of the votes with their slave owning land class, who conveniently didn’t have to fight in the war they started. The ones that had to fight and die were the poor whites, the anti slavery upper class like Lee.
Nobody asked their vote on whether they should go to war with the North. Part of the Union agreement was that the feds would enforce anti fugitive and slave laws for the Southern states, by pressuring the Northern states. What State’s Rights was that again? By breaking the Union pact by saying the feds didn’t have enough power to make their promise go through, also broke the non aggression pact which prevented wars. But the Southern Dems thought the North were a bunch of pansies, too weak to fight a single battle against the Southern boys.
Kind of like how Democrats see American patriots.
