The definitive and never-to-be surpassed last word on conservative infighting — 26 Comments
Yes, but what have the Romans done for us lately?
You have to give the Left credit for one thing. Their ability to reconcile diametrically opposed principles and positions is literally a super human feat that is rarely matched other than in the conduct of existential wars.
Can’t reconcile principles they never had. That’s a great victory for the con artists, since so many fell for it.
I guess there’s a significant strategic benefit in having cognitive dissonance.
Although it’s meant as a joke, I think there’s a lot of truth to it, as well as what Ymarsakar said. The Democrats seem to have the kind of discipline to win at all costs, aided of course with a indifferent, pliant and/or gullible public and the media.
Just wait until the next Republican becomes President and watch the media rake him over the coals for things that Obama did… probably more often and worse.
American politics as it exists today wouldn’t last 10 minutes without an enormous dose of doublethink.
Sadly, this and “Blazing Saddles” will soon be unwatchable. And I say this as a full-blown Bible-believing Christian. I now know how my dad feels when he confides to me in private that Amos n Andy were actually very funny (and yes, they were).
Sigh. Where folly is bliss, is it still folly to be wise?
If this video is, “The definitive and never-to-be surpassed last word on conservative infighting” then this picture is the definitive and never-to-be surpassed last word on RINO capitulation and collaboration.
Boehner and McConnell have repeatedly attacked the Tea Party and, now in the majority… are doing nothing. That picture was taken at a WH signing ceremony where Obama was so pleased with Republican ‘bi-partisanship’ that he gleefully chuckled with happiness i.e. pleased disbelief with the GOP’s surrender.
Jeb Bush fully supports Common Core, the government approved program of leftist memes and narrative into formal instruction and leftist indoctrination in K-12 education. He approves of amnesty for 11-50 MILLION “undocumented” democrats. He recently praised Obama’s expansion of the NSA’s surveillance programs.
Marco Rubio is OK with turning America into a one-party nation, if it advances his political ambitions.
These are NOT tangential issues but ones undeniably critical to the future of this nation.
The video trivializes betrayal and collaboration. It trivializes a self-evident truth, that a failure to fight the Left, while giving lip service to the need for that fight in order to be elected to public office… is collaborating in this nation’s demise.
I do not view it as infighting to oppose the ruling elite in DC. The GOP establishment is not conservative. dems are not liberal.
The assumption that the GOP establishment is “conservative” is not supported by fact. The political establishment in general, Dem and Republican, is unaccountable and nontransparent and represents itself rather than the people, whether conservative or liberal. Electing a RINO will simply mean going over the cliff at a slightly slower rate of speed and having to share blame for the resulting damages.
Some situations are not acceptable.
Some compromises are impossible.
I refer you to the USA! USA! USA! video above.
As to the Monty Python …
Since I read Peter Hitchen’s Abolition of Britain I’ve not been able to watch them as I used too.
Very insidious.
And yes Boehner kisses la Pelosi with too much enthusiasm.
We may as well vote for the real thing so that we can fight it.
It is a very funny video but has nothing to do metaphorically with “infighting” among “conservatives”.
Politically, there is a Left and a non-Left in America today.
What the non-Left has most in common is not being Left.
The non-Left admires many of the same people and shares many similar values, but has nothing approaching a mutually coherent point of view.
What America means was too good to last.
The incoherence of the non-Left is not mere quibbling. That is where the video is wrong as a metaphor.
We are the German people now, and we have no practical means to oppose the complete takeover.
“Life of Brian” was made in the 1970s, and that scene was really making fun of all the radical leftist fringe groups that proliferated during that time.
“Electing a RINO will simply mean going over the cliff at a slightly slower rate of speed and having to share blame for the resulting damages.” AMartel
Outstanding summation in one sentence.
I would only add that it is nearly certain that 2016 is the last chance to elect an actual conservative. If America elects a democrat, it’s over and if a RINO, it will be the last republican elected, period.

‘“Life of Brian” was made in the 1970s, and that scene was really making fun of all the radical leftist fringe groups that proliferated during that time.’
Rickl is right, I’ve seen a video where Cleese says they were parodying Leftist groups around London in the ’70s. Not that Neo isn’t right about the Right currently doing the same.
I’ve seen a video where Cleese says they were parodying Leftist groups around London in the ’70s
Leftist groups in Britain haven’t changed a bit though. They’re exactly the same today!
Electing a RINO will simply mean going over the cliff at a slightly slower rate of speed and having to share blame for the resulting damages.
The annoying part about metaphors like these is that the so-called cliff is never specified as a actual real world event but a frightening future much like what the AGW proponents would like you to believe. When will we go over this cliff that is forever approaching but never appears?
Unlike some people, I already predicted that the point of no return has been reached by now. So there’s no cliff to fall over, goodness gracious. The US is already in free fall to destruction.
Comments here and even more so comments on any post about Rubio at Legal Insurrection draws me to the conclusion that we will have another Democrat as president after 2016.

When will we go over this cliff that is forever approaching but never appears?
Yes Wile E. Coyote has already gone off the cliff and, to mix cartoon metaphors, we are just waiting for the earth shattering kaboom.
The best time to stop the Left was when they weren’t fully awakened, when they had yet to mobilize any significant percentage of their war forces.
It’s similar to other periods in history. Once an enemy is fully mobilized, they become difficult to counter given an unready nation or populace.
The Leftist alliance also regenerates. It’s not enough to fight the police unions, if you allow lawyers and teachers to regenerate the damage later on. It’s a hydra. Either overwhelm the regeneration, or it won’t end.
Believe as you wish. There simply isn’t, and hasn’t been, a conservative running for president since Reagan. How many have really been for cutting taxes, believed honestly in the constitution, tried to create a smaller government, or been solidly conservative in any real way? Crony capitalism doesn’t count, that’s just another form of socialism.
It may be a failing in Christianity, a rise and change in academia, a failing of social mores, the invasion of tech, or a mix of a lot of things. But conservativism is pretty much dead, politically. I easily compare Republican presidents and nominees, from Bush sr. on, with Democrats of the 60’s and 70’s. It’s a choice between socialists and communists at this point.
In that sense, the video fits.

As Ymarsaker states, to a real degree we’ve already gone over the cliff. Just Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid take our entire fiscal revenues. Every other program is paid for with loans from China, qualitative easing and the Feds rolling over loans with ‘money’ that is worthless. Nor are we alone, every Western nation is virtually insolvent. The Ponzi scheme simply hasn’t collapsed yet. Why not? as Adam Smith pointed out, “A nation has a great deal of ruin in it.”
Then there’s the coming nuclear terrorist attacks, which Obama is busily ensuring will occur.
How are those for actual, real world events…
My two favorite moments in this Python movie,”The Life of Brian”: 1.)A piece of dialogue from a wife of a Disciple b’yotching about the disappearance of her hubby: “…and along comes this Jesus fellow…and, OFF he goes like a rat through the aquaduct!!” and..2.}The scene where some poor sap is about to be stoned by a group of rock throwing enthusiasts…Women disguised as Guys..!! (*Perfect..!!*)

Not quite.
They didn’t like the Libertarian support.
