Pretty soon Memories Pizza may be just a memory
It is no surprise that a campaign on social media sites has forced Memories Pizza in Walkerton, Indiana to close down temporarily or perhaps permanently. The pizza establishment’s owners are not activists; they merely answered an inquiring reporter’s questions, saying that although they serve everyone who comes into the place, if they were ever asked to cater a gay wedding they would have to politely decline (although it’s moot and will never come up).
This unleashed a firestorm from activists, including death threats. It also sparked a fund-raising campaign by the owners’ supporters to raise money for them. In addition to the ramifications for this family and their business, and other business owners of like mind and faith, there is the fact that the rage against the state of Indiana has spooked its legislature into proposing added language to the recently-passed freedom of religion bill that expressly states it does not allow a business to refuse service to gay customers.
I have read several articles about the Indiana fix (such as this one, for example), and I have yet to understand whether it would protect actual wedding caterers and florists who are Christians and don’t want to work at gay weddings (as opposed to pizzeria owners answering hypothetical questions and being convicted of thoughtcrime) from having to do so or quit the business. The answer is: I don’t know.
What I do know is this: we are close to mob rule here. Unless there’s a rash of people denying service to gays—something no one seems to be alleging is occurring, although fear of it is the scare tactic being used—this is a restriction on liberty rather than an expansion of it.
Who are the people driving the campaign, and what do they want? I refer to them as “activists,” but I’d wager the group doesn’t represent all the people who have campaigned for expanded gay rights; it’s some unknown percentage of them. Also, some are probably not gay activists so much as people who hate Christianity; there certainly are plenty of those around.
Some members of the media were complicit in the stirring up of the anger, because the original statement of Memories’ owner was distorted by those who feed on this sort of thing (and I don’t mean on pizza):

The texts of both articles clarify that it was only about gay weddings, but the headlines are deliberately misleading and make it sound as though the proprietor won’t serve gays in general. Not that the distinction matters all that much to the more activist, to whom anything short of complete support of and participation in gay marriage is unconscionable. Also, expect a rash of gay activist couples to purposely go to florists, caterers, and bakeries known to be Christian, in order to get them on record and drive them out of business.
I have no problem with gay marriage, but I have a big problem with not respecting a mainstream religious belief that until a year or two ago was acceptable and accepted. Gay people who wish to get married in states where it’s legal to do so can choose from a vast multitude of people who will cater to them (literally) and would love to get their business. The rare person who will not because it is against their religion to be a participant in a gay marriage should not be forced into such participation against their will, or threatened for their beliefs, or forced out of business. Understand, also, that the war on devout Christians will not end with this. There is a great deal of rage out there.

On November 9-10 there was a call to violence. a group of people and the government backing them decided to attack store owners for their religious beliefs. they came in teams, broke all the glass windows, painted rude signs, and all in all intended to force the people who worship into actions and positions they never wanted to be in.

Here is a solution.. .If its a Christian business, then act like one… make sure that every employee that has to attend the catering wears large crosses… the uniforms have crosses, etc… insure that your truck plays advert music, something nice, etc…
make sure ALL your employees smile, treat them well, do a great job catering the event. then run an ad in the newspaper thanking them for their business and how your going to take their money and donate it to a fund against gay marraige.
this will avoid the lawsuit that is the point of the attack
and get them off your back.. the more they target your business, the more they fund their own opposition.
Christians wont care that your employees wear crosses and or uniforms with such on it expressing your belief (just make sure that anything like that that is done is done for all, not just the homosexuals targeting your business and refusing to pick others).
Christ did not say to persecute them, after all, that part of the bible is old, not the new, and the new puts forth treat everyone well whether you agree with them or not. MANY of those arguing do not have any idea of this kind of thing as they dont care to know and its convenient to bring up the old as if its current.
One of those guilty of thought-crime was a normally less articulate teenage girl. I am appalled at this and am not religious at all. I am a secular anti-progressive.

Perhaps the Christian owners of these bakeries and pizza shops, etc… should seek out other nearby bakeries and pizza shops that will cater to gay weddings and then designate each other as “sister stores.” When the gay couple (or totalitarian gay activist) comes into the Christian bakery to have their wedding catered, the Christian store would take the order, then simply give it to their “sister store” and have the sister store take it from there. That might be the best solution for these everyday Christians who don’t have the time or finances to risk what’s happening to Memories Pizza and/or just want to go on with their lives peacefully.
I’m appalled that the governors of Indiana and Arkansas are buckling under the pressure from these gay “rights” totalitarians. If Mike Pence runs for the WH, he now will not be getting my vote in the primary under any circumstances.

It’s certainly not necessary to be a Christian to support the right of the Christians to refuse to participate in gay weddings. I’m not a Christian, and I support it. Nor am I against gay weddings. But I’m against these tactics.

Clearly I do not care enough about gays, minorities or the poor, because I have yet to issue any death threats on their behalf. These activists are a righteous inspiration with their “firestorms” of kindness, empathy and thoughtful concern for doing what’s right.

For those of you not yet convinced of the argument, I encourage you to think about the idea of advocating government get out of all religion. The government has no jurisdiction over love, nor what consenting adults do in the privacy of their bedrooms. Social Conservatives did their share to fuel this firestorm by advocating for government intervention where it does not belong.

Today I walked by the same bar and noticed that the sign had been removed; all that remained were the remnants of the adhesive that had held it in place. Yes Neo, fear is clearly in play now.

Gov only involved in ratifying marital unions for purposes of (1) encouraging marriage (and procreation) thru tax and other incentives and (2) protecting children (holding marriage partners accountable for their offspring). Neither purpose is served anymore by gov marriage. Marriage is a private matter between two people and their church, not two citizens and their government.
I would agree to cater the wedding and then proceed to offer soggy pizza, overbaked pizza, pizza with substandard pepperoni, and generally poor service. When answering the inevitable complaints, I would simply reply “This is what you get when you force someone to do something they do not wish to do.”

Agreed. But there’s another side to that coin, there’s rage building up on the right as well. And unlike the left’s fire made of softwood, which though hot, quickly burns itself out, the fire smoldering on the right is made of hardwood. I agree with you that the goal of many homosexuals is a religious ceremony and acceptance, and that is between them and the leaders of their respective religions. I am friends with two gay men who were married by their Christian church almost 3 decades ago and I have no problem with them or their Pastor. They are good men who do great work in their community and are a support to their families and loved ones.
I understand the purposes of a “marriage contract” vis a vis the State. I agree folks should be free to file legal paperwork directing who can speak for them should they be medically incapacitated, who can inherit their possessions (including government distributions like social security), who can care for their children in the event they are unable (I even think plural assignees should be allowed. What business is it of the state if I want one person or a troika to decide if I should be revived from my coma?)
But marriage? If a couple choose to refer to completing the above list of documents and filing them with the State their marriage, well that’s fine with me, but the lovely Mrs. Firefly and I did not consider ourselves married until a Priest, in a Catholic church told us we were. And what does it matter to me that a couple in the LDS church do not think our union is sacred since we were not sealed for eternity in a Mormon temple?
And had the lovely Mrs. Firefly and I met on a deserted island as the sole survivors of a shipwreck and formed our family what right would it be of the US government to tell us we are not married upon our rescue, or that the Little Fireflies were not legitimate?
A government has no jurisdiction over affairs of the heart between consenting adults. That is the only, true Conservative position. Limited government means limited government.

I agree with art as to the motivation of the gay activists and, as to why there are civil marriages. Since taxes, joint ownership of assets and inheritance are generally involved, for the irreligious some alternative to church marriages must be provided. Profitability would prevent widespread dependence upon private enterprise as an alternative to government and even in Vegas “you must appear in person before a clerk at a Marriage License Bureau location”.

I was quite accepting of gays until all this. It never dawned on me that butt f—— could actually be one of their better traits.
This is another thing – like Chik-fil-A. Huge numbers of people went out on a certain day and had a fried chicken sandwich and fries. My daughter and I did – and we were amazed at the line which cheerfully wound about the store, out the door and down the side of the building. They told us that at lunchtime that day (we went in the late afternoon) that the line of cars to even get into the place went about half a mile down the access road.
I think that there is a HUGE build-up of red-staters who are just tired of all this. Any opportunity to push back against the gaystapo – taken, cheerfully and in a mood of charity. I went to the go-fund-me site for Memories Pizza and made a small contribution. Both because I am cussedly stubborn, and don’t like to see another Teeny Business bullied out of existence, and because … well, when I had a bad patch, economically (employer died suddenly) there were people and fans of my blog who pitched in. I’m looking at it as ‘paying forward’. And doing what I can, as a part of the American Country Class insurgency.
Last time I looked at the Go Fund Me for Memories Pizza, it was looking to close on 3,000. After a single day, and it looked like mostly small donations of 20$ or so. Wouldn’t it chap the gaystapo’s ass (in a manner of speaking) if donations hit half a million before Easter Sunday?
If I find myself at a gay wedding, I think I will pass on the pizza.

Firefly, no problem with me… say what you will or wont, dont let my explanations stop you… always something interesting… and i agree with your position, i was just explaining the general position. or the technical in that the argument between religious and the state in this case had to do with the benefits that the people wanted, not just the particular name. which i see no issue if it was a different word, meaning the same, but they seem to fund that unacceptable. as far as your friends that were married, i dont judge that way. i may comment, but a comment or belief is a long distance from some kind of negative action. regardless of married, or not, or i agree or not, its not an issue that requires anything but common human respect and decency.
its not so much what the facts are, its what you decide to do with them that matters. the left tends to want to suppress facts because they seem to feel that the fact drives the action, but no the fact is just a fact, and drives nothing.

That “Defense of San Juan Cathedral” was horrifying. Half-naked women screaming obscenities, spitting on the men, spray-painting them, hitting them, as the Christian men locked arms and kept praying aloud.
The women looked demonic, and the men looked like suffering saints. What those women were doing has nothing to do with women’s rights: it’s of the devil.
The Founder & Executive Director of Indiana-based Red Giant Union has allegedly threatened to rob a Christian-owned pizza shop in Indiana because he despises their Christian religion.
Austin Kasso posted on his own Facebook page that he is disgusted that Memories Pizza of Walkerton, Indiana, has raised over $100,000 on a GoFundMe.com page set up to help the restaurant get over the attacks on it fostered by the militant gay lobby and the media.
But Kasso—the founder of Red Giant, a non-GMO food activist group—went further to vent his rage at Christians by going to the GoFundMe page to warn the pizza shop that he intended to rob them of the $100,000.

Those men who defended the San Juan Cathedral are heroes. So were the Mexican peasants called Cristeros. They faced the same anti-Christian hatred and bigotry 85 years ago and fought off the violent anti-Christian bigots. The anti-Christians made martyrs of many of the Cristeros but the Cristeros persisted and won.

Why? I choose to give Mrs. Firefly power of attorney and possession of my assets should I shuttle this mortal coil, and legal paperwork exists that codify those decisions, but one should not be forced to do so simply because two people are romantically involved. It’s true, 90+% of people who have children with another will do the same (at least until 1/3 or more separate), but just because that’s what a majority choose doesn’t mean the concepts are linked to romantic love, or marriage.
Try the opposite. Let’s say my state legislature decides the Catholic church is bigoted since it does not perform homosexual weddings and a law is passed that Catholic Priests can no longer marry couples and any couple residing in my state who was married by a Catholic Priest must attend a ceremony presided over by a state appointed judge.
Do you think Mrs. Firefly and I will have such a ceremony? (Hint: the answer is no.) Do you think we will not consider ourselves married if we do not? (Hint: the answer to this question is the same as the answer to the prior question.)

the GLBT community need to stand up to their own party’s activis to stop this kind of attack(bullying) to the basic right of anyone the doesnt agreed with their agenda. It will back fire when this gone too far. On the other hand, Memories Pizza should repackage to go on line for the public, I will order pizza from them.
If you want to do something practical and stick it to the Gay Nazi’s goto the “go fund me” site and contribute a bit to the Memories Pizza fund.
Dana Loesch (or a member of her staff) set it up for them so that they could remodel and reopen and not be destroyed by the Gay Nazi’s.
Limbaugh started pushing it today and has gotten it up to over $700k. It would be nice if decent people got it up to one million.

Yep, that is what it is coming down to; reminds me of the news article the other day where a group of black men beat up a white guy on a St. Louis train when he didn’t answer their question about what he thought of the Michael Brown case.
As, I have mentioned before – I’ve run into confrontations with blacks on the subway in the NYC area in just the last couple of years. Those starting these fights just seemed to be looking for a fight – it doesn’t matter what it is about. Just someone who is an “other” to them to pick on.
Going after small mom & pop places is a part of their targeting the “other.”
It makes me wonder if it isn’t due to frustration of their golden boy Obama turning out to be a dud and they don’t know how to handle the disappointment that he actually wasn’t the second coming?
