Very sad about Rick Santorum’s daughter.
Both he and Palin not only have talked the pro-life talk but walked the walk. And it’s no walk in the park, that’s for sure.
That a parent must watch a child suffer (or die) is a terrible thing beyond the imagination of those who have no children.
I read the comments at your link. Some were from parents of a child with T18. It seems that what is now affecting Bella may be a treatable problem. Without knowing more, I can only hope this is the case. My prayers go out to the family.
I suspect one reason why Palin drove the left into such a frenzy is because she made a pro-life choice. In her book, when she learns her child has Downs Syndrome, she says “Why us?” and Todd replies “Why not us?”.
If Santorum becomes the last [social] Conservative standing between Romney and the nomination, he will be hammered mercilessly on his pro-life position by the media and the left.

I suspect that she drove American leftists nuts because that decision made clear that it wasn’t all about her.
My friends in the Bay Area, where the Peter Pan syndrome is regnant, are baffled by anyone making a decision that is not 100% decided by what is in the decision-maker’s direct personal interest.
For this reason it is for the best that none of them have had children. They’ve never grown up enough to realize that their coordinates are not (0, 0, 0). Having children makes – or should make – that realization inescapable.
So they stick with pets, which is just as well. (Although the same is true, albeit less compellingly, of pets.)

Thanks for asking… she’s doing as well as can be expected. Her 2nd chemo session was much like the first: mild nausea, general aches, and a loss of appetite for a few days; then a rebound on post day 4. Its a long, rough, and winding road she must travel but we’re hanging tough as a family and setting our minds on complete remission. So say we all.

Yes, yes, yes. I’m not social conservative except when it comes to this issue. Life, in or out of the womb, is precious and is to be protected, nurtured, and loved.

God. The trolls. Really? Especially on such a heart rendering topic? Sheesh. But I read on the T18 syndrome. It’s very sad…. all very sad. But the Santorum family seems to have a wonderful gift of faith to get them through…my prayers are with them tonight. They have already given a huge testament to the power of family; the life and death of a child whose life was so short. Perhaps the grace that outpours from their human suffering will now make someone else choose the direction of life, regardless of how long that life is.

Every argument I’ve had with my leftist friends and relatives, on no matter what subject, devolved to conservative hypocrisy. All their ideals, they say darkly, are just cover for baser motives. When the argument gets to the point of “Well, if they were really pro-life, they’d support …” I stop, because we’ve come across the core of their world view, and in my experience, it can’t be shaken.
The problem with the Palins and Santorums of the world living up to their beliefs, of demonstrably not being hypocrites, is that they can’t be ignored. The existence of their living and loved children is a challenge to the deepest leftist beliefs.
Anyway, sorry for making a political comment on a post about a sick child. I’ve been praying for the Santorums.
