Voting over—I’m still regent — 65 Comments

  1. Neo,

If you aren’t conservative, you are a bigger con artist than Obama.

    You have my vote.

  2. Woot, second place, go Neo, getting beaten by Ann Althouse? Didn’t know she was conservative…

  3. Mr. Frank: Well, maybe it’s merely a case of clinging to the last vestiges of my old identity, but I don’t describe myself as Conservative. I call myself a classical liberal, if I really have to use a label.

  4. Neo, you’ve been a joy since I discovered your blog about a year ago. I just hope that you enjoy writing this blog as much as I enjoy reading it. BTW, I would tend to describe you as a classic liberal as well 🙂 My vote is in.

  5. A while back I figured what the hell and when I’m asked my orientation–not my ideology, since I don’t have one–I say “neoconservative in the Kristolian sense.” If they don’t get it, tough.

  6. I really enjoy neo’s work, but I voted for Pamela Geller who is doing yeoman’s work right now organizing to save the life of Rifqa Bary and exposing Islamist infiltration into our society.

neo is not a conservative–hell, most of the people who’ve voted Republican since 9/11 are not conservatives, they’re classical liberals or, more properly, “small-r” republicans: they believe in a republican–not democratic–form of government and the rule of law.

And stop calling the Dems “liberals”.

  7. Neo,

Please bump this post so that it is up top during the voting period. That will make it easier to keep voting each day.

  8. “Classic Lib” is what us Evil Neocons are.

None exist anymore in the Democrap Party.

    Kick Butt, Neo-Neo.

  9. I voted and will vote again but when are we going to see what’s behind the apple? You KNOW it’s going to happen sooner or later. If you win won’t there be a publicity photo?

  10. Neo has my vote, too–and will have, more than once. Although I must say Jennifer Rubin is a close second. I also have some sentiment for The Anchoress.

But Althouse? I mean, we respect those we oppose when the disagreements are honest and all, but Althouse plays the “who knew?” game too much–as in, “Obama was gaming us? Who knew?” We all knew, if we were paying any attention. Was she gaming, too, and if so, to what end? Well, I really don’t get her.

Maybe it’s just a matter of her trying to be excessively fair–or trying excessively to be fair. Whatever.

Anyway, Neo’s the best. And incidentally, I favor the apple.

  11. I voted again today. Pamela jumped into the lead all of a sudden.

I like Pamela (and she is a smoking hottie), but there is no better blog for in depth analysis of current events than this one.

    What happened???

  12. Maybe we aren’t approaching this right. Maybe Neo needs to do a bikini calendar or something.

  13. Thanks for all the votes. I’m putting this up at the top each day till the voting’s over.

  14. Thanks for the reminder, Neo. I’ve voted. (And I’ll keep coming back… right now you’re a strong second place, but Pamela Geller is way ahead of you.)

Thanks for all you do, Neo. It makes a big difference.

    DiB

  15. Crap. I’m so confused. I vote for Pam, for Neo, and for Michelle. I admire all of you. I knew I should have been a Mormon.

  16. I voted for you yesterday and you were ahead.

Tonight I voted for you again and you have fallen back a little in the voting.

I’m surprised Tammy Bruce isn’t getting more votes at that site. 😉

  17. You just got my vote. Although I am not aware of any respect/admiration you have received from “gay conservatives.” 🙂

    Merry Christmas!!

  18. There’s something fishy about that Pam Geller vote. It’s way out of line with all the others. There’s a story there.

  19. Merry Christmas, Neo! And to all the regulars that comment on this site.

Hope you all have happy holidays. But . . . don’t drink too much.

  20. I recall you freaking out at the giant bug on your wall. That qualifies you for diva…i think….so i voted for ya.

    Merry Christmas!

  21. Neo J – personally, I’m fine with your tag, but at some point you’re gonna have to drop the apple and go with both your name and your moniker. That is, in my opinion if you want to reach a larger audience, you need to find a better mix between the two. Maybe that will come with the publication of your book which I’m looking forward to by the way. By way of example – Pamela Geller is Atlas and Atlas is Pamela Geller. Everyone knows that.

Happy Chanukah to all! Merry Christmas to all!

  22. Neo, the fact that you’re beating Michelle is a testament to your popularity. You’re a winner in my book whether you win this or not.

  23. Neo J – personally, I’m fine with your tag, but at some point you’re gonna have to drop the apple and go with both your name and your moniker.

I don’t think so. I suppose I could figure it out, but I have no idea what ace’s name is or AllahPundit’s for that matter.

  24. I vote for you not only because I read you consistently and no longer read Pam Geller who is too strident for me, BUT ALSO because I’m sick of watching Pam always play with her hair whenever I see her on YouTube….is there a 12-Step for Hair Fettishes???

  25. I was going to split my vote between you and Fausta, whom I also read regularly, but, since it appears you have a chance to win and she doesn’t, you’re getting the votes. You appear to be playing a catchup game, so I guess it depends on how much longer you have and if the geller fans notice they’re losing.

  26. Pamela posted a picture that was almost enough to make me vote for her today, but I resisted and cast my vote for Neo. Pamela shows it off while Neo makes us use our imagination.

  27. I’ve been voting every day, but it looks like Pamela has an insurmountable lead. At least you appear to have second place locked up.

One commenter seems to think that vanderleun is jealous of Pam’s cleavage.

  28. I’m with rickl my sentiments exactly. Given a choice of brains over push up. I take the brains any time, maybe not when I was younger.

Besides Pam is neurotic, obsessive compulsive, and tanning booth trashy compared to Neo’s cool calm doctors office atmosphere of a blog with a seductive hiding behind the apple mystique.

Kind of leaves me with the impression she was rather the youthful ugly duckling, self conscious, modest and a bit shy who blossomed in her adolescents and focused on her best quality .. her brain. I like the heady stuff and her occasional feminine flareups very classy.

  29. Gary: thanks for the compliments! I like to think that the air of mystery is a good thing (although some day I may come out from behind the apple; but not today). But you may not be aware that there are already photos of me on this blog, both in my youth and adolescence (see this and this).

  30. Neo
I have seen the baby pix before but not the ballerina. Oh course the “duckling-swan” was meant metaphorically not physically. Clearly your Mediterranean ancestry is captured in your lips and eyes. And in your apple pic.
Some how today though I thought you more salt and pepperish as opposed to black.

And as far as the ears go as long as there’s two who cares. HNY!

  31. Gary: yes, I was more shy when I was an adolescent. But never really all that shy.

And (shhh!, don’t tell anyone) my hair used to be pepper and salt just a few years ago. Not any more.

  32. I’m sorry you didn’t win, but congratulations on being Regent. I think that’s quite an achievement in and of itself.

I’m not a fan of Geller (she seems a bit shrill to me) but she has a huge following so I think it’s quite an accomplishment to come in a strong second to her… and to beat out Michelle Malkin.

    Happy New Year!

  33. Sincere congrats! I’ll bet you never thought you’d be at such a level of popularity when you initially began your blog. I remember feeling so excited when I first found your site because your way of expressing yourself just resonated with me. You have a very effective way of combining the personal with the analytical. You really deserve all the accolades that come your way.

  34. Congratulations on a great finish. I used to visit Atlas Shrugs and decided fairly quickly that the blogger was just too narcissistic for my tastes.

On the other hand, I often wait to click on my “neo” bookmark until last, just so I can appreciate and savor what you’ve chosen to share with us each day.

There are greater rewards than instalanches and blog-diva elections. Having an informed and self-nourished background and God-given insights with which to entertain and illuminate, for example, and having intelligent readers who enhance your site with their own comments. You’ve been given the greater rewards, and we the lucky readers are blessed because of it.

Happy New Year. Here’s hoping our Schadenfreude runneth over in 2010!

  35. I wasn’t a reader of Atlas Shrugs until I became curious when she took such a large lead in the contest. Since then I’ve had her on my daily read list. I’m beginning to think that she leans toward being a single-issue blogger since she mostly posts on the War On Terror and Islamic radicalism.

I’ve been a Neo follower for a couple of years, since the folks at the Q&O site recommended you. Few writers can match your ability to make just about anything interesting and enjoyable to read; even a trip to the dump. The content is matched by the skillful way it’s presented.

Although I’m well past my prime, I still appreciate a well-presented member of the opposite sex, and my imagination presents an image of what’s behind the apple that trumps what Atlas projects.

  36. ‘I don’t call myself a Conservative. I call myself a classical liberal’.
And so do I. But you will be called ‘a Conservative’ once you espouse classical liberal ideas. This is the problem. Since the seventies the whole political spectrum has shifted to the left, and what first was called liberal is now called conservative and what was called socialist is now called liberal. The words meaning became reversed in an Orwellian way.
In the US the traditional political meaning of the colors blue and red have been reversed. Blue was always the color of traditional Liberalism and red was the color of Socialism. Now it is reversed in the Red states vs the Blue states. I still don’t know whether this was done by the leftist media to fool the people deliberately or not.
Also in the Western media hardcore communists in China are called ‘conservatives’ and freedomfighters are called ‘liberals’. But the hardcore Chinese communists are the opposite of ‘conservatives’in the West. And the freedomfighters under communism got their support mainly from western conservatives not from liberals.
And now since many people have come to see the real meaning of todays ‘liberalism’, they changed its name again into something else: ‘progressivism’.
But as Orwell showed, this is what the Left does. They play with the language in order to confuse everything and then take advantage of it in the quest for power.
The deepest reason is that for the Left the value of Leftist power trumps the value of speaking the truth. This is also why the Left finds it no problem to take away the freedom of people to speak the truth according to their conscience.
And this is the number one reason that I reject and distrust the Left and everything it stands for.
Once freedom of speech has died, all other freedoms will die also.
The Lights will go out…As they have gone out here in Europe in considerable measure.

I want to thank you for your blog, which is a Light that must not go out.
