Sometimes…
…I just get a yen to look at some ugly dresses.
This particular bunch were featured at this year’s Grammys. Feast your eyes, and ponder how it was that these women came to choose these particular duds.
First up, Phoebe Price—and the Price isn’t right. Who is Price, you might ask? Her major claim to fame seems to be showing up in outrageous outfits at red carpet events. It’s a tough job, but someone’s got to do it, and Ms. Price seems up to the task:
But we’re just warming up. Next we have the supposedly multitalented M.I.A., an artist previously unknown to me. She’s pregnant here, but that doesn’t go very far towards explaining the following:
And lastly we have Bai Ling, an actress also previously unknown to me (that’s a fairly large set). The following dress would have been somewhat unattractive even without the bow. But that embellishment happily and resoundingly catapults it into the category of the deeply and spectacularly silly:
I will email you some images from fashion week (i am signed so will be there in the rizers spottily… been there for more than a decade).
should be interesting… they are gearing up the red dress program (they gave women cancer, now they are collecting money to cure it. you came a long way baby!).
the past couple of years have had no energy… in my opinion… and its hard being in ground zero of leftist la la land… but its nice to see my famous friends and everyone…
i always wanted to do an american express add using the situation.
you dont know me, but they do…
and behind me the a-listers i know and have worked with.
sicne i now work during the day, i dont get to take as many images as i used to.
its a grueling week to do. 7 days of shows all day and parties all night… each year we try to give someone their dream!!! each year we find out that people want dreams not realizations. 🙂
its brutal…
What did I ever do to you, Neo-Neo?
oh neo…
Please give credit where credit is due.
when stealing images from wire image for your blog and its intent to make your stuff look better, the photographer, Steve Granitz, makes no money.
Steve works mainly in LA, so i havent met him.
but these guys work VERY hard to get a small amount of money. (they only make a lot when lightning strikes. like my friends image of john lennon with the NY tee shirt. it was not lenins shirt, it was teh photographers)
when i was doing the work every day.. i would put in 16 hours a day for weeks and make ZERO most of the time…
in one day i went to 20 events and carpets from new cds coming out, to rappers trying to get you to vote… i made 200 dollars after a month of that.
each time someone takes a full size image and uses it and doesnt pay the fee, they are destroying the small photographer in favor of the agency.
Wire image, Globe Photos, Corbis, Getty… each have top photographers. wire image is hack with hundreds of photogs all over… Globe Photos was and is more intimate (only 14 or so photographers world wide), Corbis and Getty have lots of photogs, but they are not hacks, like Globe. (I wont tell you all which agency represents my celebrity fashion work 🙂 )
thanks STEVE GRANITZ for your time, and efforts, you were there so we didnt have to be.
Is it just me, or do odd looking women choose to wear odd looking dresses? Is this a chicken or egg thing? I’m so confused.
WOmen wearing odd-looking dresses look odd in them.
I wouldn’t necessarily call the dresses ugly but I would ask the women wearing such dresses: What went through your mind that caused you to decide to wear it?
Sometimes…
…I just get a yen to look at some ugly dresses.
Me too — especially now when the news is so depressing.
It is a lot stranger to see these shows now that I live near LA and have been to a small movie premier. It’s strange to realize that for many of these folks (the minor celebrities) so much of their life revolves around deciding what (excuse me, “who”) to wear to these events. And now realizing that these folks are essentially the group in power in this country… well, suffice it to say that after a few minutes I switched to watching Westminster.
You should put up a post about Westminster, if you’re into that sort of thing. It was different this year… somewhat hope and changey… lots more visibility for the international competitors and three out of the 4 group winners from the first night were black. Ok, the latter is true but just a funny coincidence, but the former thing (about the international flavor) was odd, I thought.
Other thing of note. One of last night’s winners was a scotty (Barney Bush “clone”) and another was a black poodle. (Poodle was one of the breeds recommended for the Obamas.)
Er, Art? I had no problem finding where the images came from, since it’s linked up at the top….. the article could even be viewed as great PR for Wireimage.com, since every one of the pictures I’ve looked at in the linked archive is from their site.
Do you really think Mr. Granitz would appreciate using the word “stealing” for promoting a collection of his work?
Presumably, Yahoo! bought the images, so that they could get more traffic.
Neo-Neo’s link makes more traffic– without, I’d like to add, stealing their bandwidth by loading the images from their servers.
Is it just me, or is the gal in pink’s face really discolored?
Ha ha! Great post. 🙂
Now I don’t feel so bad that I wore brown socks and carried a black purse the other day… whew…
Aftlfdgr: I was careful to post a link to the original article.
Let’s cut back to the source. Ugly, make that pug-ugly, dresses are in because the First Lady has a yen for them.
These are just footnotes to Michelle Obama’s hideous taste in evening wear. Hope for a change.
I don’t see any need for puzzlement, Neo, at least with respect to M.I.A. It’s obvious she made an election bet, loser had to wear the stupidest imaginable costume.
Come on, M.I.A.’s dress is great. You all have no taste.
What went through your mind that caused you to decide to wear it?
I imagine: a desire to attract attention. It worked, didn’t it?
