The “jerks” at the New Yorker like McCain
It’s a little late for Valentine’s Day, but The New Yorker has published this love letter to McCain by Ryan Lizza.
Okay, maybe it’s not exactly a love letter; there’s a bit of criticism in there as well. But not a whole lot.
It seems that McCain’s acerbic humor and general affability, as well as his openness to the press, are acting in his favor—despite (or perhaps because?) of the fact that he customarily greets the batch of journalists following his campaign with the affectionate phrase, “Hello, jerks!”

Or maybe because he’s seen as “the Maverick” Republican. Think that’s a possibility?
The article may be “favorable” but it makes McCain look like the reigning goofball of Frathouse Row. It doesn’t sound like grinding an axe because they’re using a strop instead of a wheel, but the effect is the same.
All that MSM love for McCain goes away as soon as he goes head to head with who they really want to see in the White House…a real Democrat, not just one who plays one on TV. Im forecasting a media global warming fest for Obama, and catastrophic climate change for the maverick.
So it shall be written, so shall it be done.

McCain sucks. He’s a crook and no friend to your liberty. I lived in AZ during all of his shenanigans.
The media made him a contender; and now they will destroy him utterly.
Before this election is over, I predict you, Neo, will renounce McCain once you discover what a complete skunk he is.
I, on the other hand, have always known what a complete skunk he is and I’ll still vote for him over Barack al Hussein.
Or perhaps it’s another case of the media fawning over a “bad boy”.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not comparing John McCain to Fidel Castro, but I can’t help but observe this is the same week that CNN was criticized in some quarters for distributing an internal memo that many people interpreted as a “Be Kind to Castro” directive for their news anchors. It seems the media has some deep-seated self-loathing that doesn’t allow them to openly and forthrightly criticize a dictator who, if by some stroke of fate happened to become the leader of their country, would immediately take away every right they currently possess to publish and print and broadcast as they see fit. It’s almost like they’re a bunch of insecure submissives who are looking for a dominatrix to tell them what to do. And when McCain comes along and calls them “jerks” to their faces, they can’t help but lap it up.
caveat – I did not read the article.
I remember reading how McCain, in the 2000 primaries, had a habit of referring to the reporters waiting to interview him as Trotskyites. They thought it pretty funny.
He seems to despise what they stand for while at the same time liking them individually and vice versa.
Maybe despise is too strong a word. I think he sees them as basically decent people in the thrall of bad ideas and they see him the same way – basically decent but wrong.
I agree with Harry though, once McCain goes head-to-head with Obama they will go after him hammer and tong (or should that be hammer and sickle?)
