Speaking of changing political opinions, I just found out that one of Charles Krauthammer’s earliest political gigs was as a speechwriter for Walter Mondale (see bio on left sidebar in the link).

And Bush 43 didn’t “let him escape”.
Have serious problems with reality?
I’ve met Charles Krauthammer. His son was in my Latin class.
In the run-up to the Iraq war, he came to my school and debated Norm Ornstien about our decision to invade. Krauthammer ended the event by turning to the assembled students and saying “I promise you, Iraq has weapons of amss destruction. If we don’t invade, all of us will be killed. When we go there, we’ll be greeted as heroes, the country will be secure, and WMDs will be found. If any of that isn’t true six months after we invade, I’ll come back and apologize.”
Needless to say, I haven’t seen him since.
I’m surprised you list yourself as a former Democrat who was ‘mugged by reality on 9/11’. What reality would that be? it was Reagan and Bush I we trained and funded bin Laden and Bush II who let him escape while still cozying up to the Saudis. Seems contradictory to me…

disturbing . Freelance crazies always are. It is no different than the Arab propaganda and terrorism.
Hate is blinding as it prevents thinking.To hear what is said on the floor of the Senate and the House at times
is comparable to what was heard in Germany in the late Twenties , throughout the Thirties and much of the Forties. Today, it is heard in Europe, and throughout the Arab/Muslim world- and has been for years.
It would seem that those who view themselves as intellectuals would understand that that inherently means, one who can and does think. Thus, as circumstances and times change, especially, when an act of war is manifested, it behooves one to think about
what has and is occurring. Those, who refuse to think, are either reacting to a feeling of guilt for some perceived, or unconscious, reason of responsibility; or they are ostriches, or are, in fact, responsible in some way and fear discovery.
There is one other reason. Familial ties and loyalties.
In regards to the WMD reason for going to war with Iraq, it was only one of several reasons. However, thousands of captured documents attest to
all of the charges. They were posted online. Many were translated from the Arabic. Several astute articles and columns discussed them. However, one of the most dangerous elements of this entire situation is the insistence on ignoring, dismissing, and lying about hard facts for a personal agenda.
Saddam used chemical weapons on his own people.
PERIOD. The nuclear weapons were being planned for reconstitution.Why do people not understand it is not solely the weapon, itself? It is the mind of the head of a state with these weapons that MUST be considered and understood. Therein resides the missile silo.
All one has to do is view the documentary, “Saddam, Weapon of Mass Destruction.” (www.iraqitruthproject.com) What has to be asked is why our liberating 27 million people is not
something of which we should be, and should have been, proud? There is a sequence in the film in which the children’s cemetery is discussed. It is filled with graves of children Saddam murdered by incarcerating
and starving them to death. Those were the more fortunate ones.Others were tortured, raped, murdered in front of their parents and without them.The only reason a cemetery exists at all in a surreal,sandy field with makeshift , jagged stone markers, is because the Mothers begged to be able to prepare the children for burial and to bury them. This permission was granted, and everyday for six months the Mothers took the lifeless children, washed and wrapped the children, and buried them. If this sequence doesn’t effect one, and provide
sufficient reason for ridding the world, including the Arab/Muslim world,of one of the most heinous leaders
of modern times, something is wrong with the viewer.
Saddam’s history is easily obtainable. Those who refuse to seek truth and facts cannot be considered “Intellectuals.” They are frozen in time and do not want to free themselves of their less mature thinking.
They have ceased thinking. As they age, they will atrophe.
Was Krauthammer invited back? Or did this teacher, or director, assume Krauthammer would call? Is it possible he does not feel, knowing the facts,
an apology is owed? Components for chemical and biological weapons and their distribution were found. Saddam’s association with AlQaeda was proven in these documents. His support of terrorists is known for a fact. His consistent threat to his neighbors went on over his entire career. The agreement to which he agreed at the end of the 1991 Gulf War was broken by him.He was running us billions, annually, as we were flying over Iraq due to his violations. It goes on and on…
By the way, it was Clinton and Berger who let Bin Ladin go. Are our policies in regards to the Saudis
confounding? Absolutely, on too many counts. Far too much is contradictory and maddening., including the border problems. Were things mishandled once we liberated Iraq? As they are in EVERY WAR. However, the decision to go to war in Iraq is absolutely correct.
France and Russia obstructed us for their own selfish reasons, for they had been heavily invested with Saddam among other circumstances .
One must consider what our enemies’ intentions are. Will they cease their war against us if we leave? Their drive to make the US part of the worldwide caliphate, to destroy us? No. They have been waging war against us since the Seventies. 9-11 ,finally, got our attention. The truth is we don’t have a choice. If not over there, it will increase and become indisputably unceasing, here, until we destroy them.
