I did not watch. I did not listen, although I read reaction to it.
But I think this comment by Frank Martin gets it just right:
I cant wait for Senator Obama to offer a rebuttal.

Why do I get the sneaking feeling that somehow some way Hillary will eventually get thrown under the bus for this entire episode. It’s already “out there” that she was the one who pushed for this and no one seems to be contradicting that. Time will tell I suppose…

It’s still up but, sadly, has had no new postings in over a year.
I first got hooked on blogs when a link (on MSNBC’s webpage (of all places) pointed me to
Today, I was “Unprofessional”…, about the tsunami that hit Indonesia on Christmas Day, 2004.
I’ve even linked that one in the sidebar of my blog as the first of “Really Fine Posts by Others…”.
He now only puts things up on twitter. It’s his life, after all, and he’s probably decided that there should be more to it than blogging.
I do miss his posts, though.

Ahh…a ray of hope. AP has a “Fact check” piece on the speech, critical but still soft.

I didn’t see, hear, or read Obama’s speech. I have been noticing some YouTube videos that demonstrate Obama is flexible even for a politician.
Paul_in_Houston: Yes, Frank Martin was one of the first bloggers I read, and I also made his acquaintance many years ago. He is missed as a blogger, but I’m sure he had his reasons for quitting.

Not only did capitalism destroy civilization on Mars, it destroyed civilization in Libya. I know that doesn’t make sense by I’m trying to channel my inner Hugo.

That is what I am expecting to happen here in Iowa come the caucus season. If so, I’ll be changing my registration to democrat so I can vote for HRC.
Obama seems consistent in telling us what he’s up to by lecturing us on the opposite. He’s for free markets, then he virtually nationalizes the auto industry; he’ll close Guantanamo, Gitmo is still in operation; Obamacare will allow us to keep our current insurance; Obamacare will help us pay down the nat’l debt. The list is almost endless and it’s only been two years.
I draw my impression from what he’s done, and what he’s done has been very consistently the opposite of what he says. Bill O’Reilly tonight offered that he thinks that Obama is a changed man from all of the top level secret information he now has access to. I, on the other hand, don’t think Obama’s a CHANGED man, he’s more like a con man. Would YOU buy a used car from this man now that you’ve seen and heard him in action?
We have a Communist, pro-Muslim, anti-American traitor in the White House.
There really isn’t anything else I can say without crossing all sorts of red lines.
He needs to be removed from power, though, and at this point I don’t care how it happens.
Alas, rickl, the devil takes care of his own. Of course it’s easier if he has the MSM and the credulity of the US public of his side.
it is like is all some sort of plan to remove the semi-secular middle eastern governments and replace them with radical muslim ones- and we are helping! Drudge even had a link to an article that elements in the Iranian government sees this chaos as a sign that the Mahdi is close to appearing. I would totally NOT be suprised if someone tries to claim that mantle. And the Islamic “Mahdi” looks suspiciously like the “anti-Christ” in Christian traditions….even has corresponding side kicks..spooky!

I second Rickl called Dear Reader a traitor; his release of CIA secrets during wartime clearly makes that case, and pro-communist, see Honduras, but only pro imaginary Moslem, because the Moslems he seeks to placate seem stereo-types from Gunga Din. We should add DAZED and CONFUSED, the Libyan affair is the proof. And there a term for someone who seeks to avoid making decisions, not vacillating, he seeks to avoid decision making all together.

It has to happen at the ballot box. Or, he has to do something so thoroughly outrageous that impeachment-conviction is fail safe.
My greatest fear is that our society is approaching the edge of the abyss of civil war/revolution. I’m not excited about the idea of another revolution or a civil war. There are plenty of Maximilien Robespierre psychopaths waiting off stage left or right that I’d prefer stay on the fringe.

Obama doesn’t give speeches. He pulls maintenance detail on people’s ignorance. And they maintain.
For all of us hoping that Obama is no more than a one term president here are the current polls on potential 2012 matchups. They make extremely depressing reading:

Intrade has the Democratic nominee to win at 62.5%.
Londontrader, discount any poll run by the media, especially anything by Time, Newsweek, ABC, NBC or CBS. they are all heavily weighted in favor the Democrats. Before the midterm Newsweek gave Obama a +15 positive job approval. Look what happened. Go back to REal clear Politics and you can judge their reliability by matching their pre-election predictions matched against election results. Look at Rasmussen Romney vs. Obama. And the election campaign has not yet started.
I don’t know about Intrade but if they are using past elections to predict the future they are making a mistake. The US never came close to having a President to whom the term traitor or communist could justifiably be applied.
You can count on the media maintaining this narrative of Obama being a shoe in up until a couple weeks before the election. They want to demoralise and discourage any opposition. Except it will accomplish the exact opposite. People know the stakes of 4 more years of this commie in chief.
He has opened up a can of worms for himself…
that is, not knowing WHY others avoided this humane seeming practice and from gathering up the social goal, was that there was no way to separate if from the ton o sh*t that comes with it.
NOW the issue will be, why are you not sending troops into china to saev those being tortured?
why are people not being sent into georgia and ajerbaijan?
why not darfur?
why arent we saving the coptic christians of egypt?
why are we not saving mexico?
its a case of not having enough candy for everyone, you better not offer any to a few..

There was a vote in the Democrat controlled Senate on a resolution over this. It passed, unbelievably, by a vote of 100 to 0.
All Republicans on board for a liberal interventionist policy.
In the Republican controlled House, the Republican leadership isn’t raising much of a raucous over this.

i agree. I find Bill Whittle very impressive and insightful. My only complaint is that he prefers video (PJTV). I wish her would write as well; I can read the equivalent text much more rapidly than a 6 or 7 minute video.

Depends on the Republican nominee is. They aren’t earning the nickname “party of stupid” for nothing. If Christie were to jump in or if a serious man like Mitch Daniels were able to claim enough of the spotlight from retreads like Newt and Romney then the Republicans would be in a strong position. They would look (dare I say it) capable. And if they get too polarizing (Palin anyone?) then all bets are off. I’m fine with her personally but she’s too much of a lightening rod. It would be all style over ideas.
neo, your comment @ 11:50 pm made me spew coffee all over the monitor. I had formed the image of neo-neocon as a proper professional woman (and I know that’s the truth), but the LBJ quote about Hoover adds nuance, if I may employ an overused term.
At this point, presidential polling is beyond useless. It is, at best, an amusing side note. At this point 20 years ago, George H.W. Bush (fresh off the Gulf War) was clobbering any Democrat in a head to head match up; 28 years ago (just as the the economic recovery was starting), Ronald Reagan was losing to (or at least tied with) John Glenn (whose campaign ultimately imploded); 40 years ago, Richard Nixon would have been behind Edmund Muskie (you want to talk about imploding campaigns!). And so on.
So, forget about polls. Right now, all of the GOP hopefuls with high name recognition (Romney, Gingrich, Palin) have serious defects. The stronger candidates and potential candidates (Pawlenty, Daniels) are relatively unknown. Christie probably has decent name recognition, given his nationally profiled battles with the state teachers unions; but enough to draw a significant amount of people to say that they’d vote for him for President even if he does run? I doubt it.
It’s important to remember that most Americans are not politics junkies. The 2012 election is not in the forefront of their minds, nor are most of the Republican candidates. That will change over the course of the rest of this year; when it does, so will the polling results.
