  1. The Common Loon is still my favorite. Its (4) main calls are the most wondrous sounds in the animal kingdom. It can dive down 250 feet and no scuba gear. Then it tries to take off in flight from a lake and you almost have to laugh as it takes up to 1 /4 mile to be airborn.

My wife and I do wildlife photogarphy in national parks – Glacier in the US and Waterton, Kootenay, Banff and Jasper in Canada as well as Canada’s Provincial parks so fun to see loons. Maybe not the most beautiful but great to listen to.

  2. Best watched with the sound off.

And wait! What is the pink one on the title screen? It is not one of the eight.

  3. Crows aren’t especially beautiful, but they are the most intelligent and interesting of birds — and the funniest. What a sense of humor they have. I have a group of crows living somewhere nearby and they’re always yakking up a storm in the morning and generally goofing around. I’m attempting to make friends with them. So far they haven’t committed to me one way or the other. But I’ll keep trying.

  4. We have 10’s of thousands of brown pelicans in my area, which I like. They are great fliers often flying inches above the water. They comprise something like 99.99+% of the pelicans here. But once I saw a small flock of white and black ones. Amazing. Not being a bird watcher, I didn’t even know they existed.

  5. Elie Wiesel’s daughter sure does write well:

    Obama’s Dangerous Mideast Words
    https://www.wsj.com/opinion/obamas-dangerous-mideast-words-76a06ec9?st=hx8B4n

Wonderful editorial even if she lets him off way too easy.

The partition of India in 1947 uprooted more than 10 million people, Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs alike. No American president would tell a crowd that the grandchildren of those who were displaced “understandably” want those homes back, because everyone knows where that leads. We saw where it leads on Oct. 7, 2023. Hamas’s leaders have since vowed to do it again and again until Israel is gone. There can and should be no understanding of those ambitions.

The deeper problem is the story itself. In Mr. Obama’s telling, Jews were oppressed in Europe and then arrived somewhere else and took too much. Jewish history in the land disappears. My father drew a line when he wrote in the New York Times in 2001: “To compromise on territory might seem, under certain conditions, imperative. . . . But to compromise on history is impossible.” That is the line Mr. Obama crossed in Belfast.

  6. Cynical Publius:

As many of you know, in recent days Data Republican has been releasing transcripts, videos and audio recordings of a group of groups plotting to use violence to force President Trump to take protective actions (i.e., the Insurrection Act) that will result in the overthrow of our Constitution in favor of the will of Democrat governors.

These groups include former USAID employees and other ex-national security officials, and the plans they discuss are straight out of the color revolution tactics, techniques and procedures those same people have been using for decades to overthrow foreign governments unfriendly to the USA.

This is the biggest news story in decades, right?

Yet no one in the mainstream media will touch it.

    Except to defend it.

See the below headline from today’s Washington Post (I’ll link to the full article below).

The plotters behind this effort are obviously alarmed by the recent public uncovering of their conspiracy, so they have done what any reputable Democrat determined to overthrow the electoral choices of the American people would do: run to a friendly press outlet to drop a soft-pedaled puff piece to run top cover for their efforts, and blame Trump.

If you read this article, it does not talk about a coup conspiracy. Instead it talks about a bunch of well-meaning, patriotic, anonymous ex-national security officials simply trying to protect America from the evil dictator Trump destroying “our democracy.”

This article itself is straight out of the color revolution tactics—it’s propaganda designed to condition a populace to accept illegitimate actions.

The Washington Post is part of the plot.

Stay frosty, friends. This will get worse before it gets better.

    Hair-raising stuff.
