Obama meets with the Canadian PM

Obama is in Canada in order to give the keynote speech to a group called Canada 2020, which has the goal of furthering “a more just, inclusive and forward-thinking Canada.”

That’s “just” as in “social justice” or what Thomas Sowell called “cosmic justice.” I guess the Canadian left just isn’t satisfied with the present status quo, nor is Obama.

He also met with PM Carney, which – according to Newsweek – has MAGA “seething” (rather than pouncing, as is customary).

Carney wrote:

“Welcome back to Canada, President @BarackObama,” Carney wrote. “Thank you for joining us in Toronto for important conversations on how we can build a better and more just future—and empower more people to build with us.”

There’s that “just” business again.

I’m not seething about this; there are plenty of more seethable things around, vying for attention. But I became curious as to whether, if Obama became a Canadian citizen, he could run for PM? The answer is “yes,” because Canada has no “natural born citizen” requirement.

By the way, I’ve never thought Obama was anything but a “natural born citizen” of the US. When he was running for office, there were a lot of discussions here on the subject, so I’m not going to go into it again now. I’ll just add that the whole controversy makes me think of Macbeth – the prophecy that Macbeth couldn’t be defeated by anyone “of woman born,” and then the revelation of the fact that Macduff was “from his mother’s womb untimely ripped.”

  1. To my regret, Barack Hussein Obama will not seek Canadian citizenship. We dodged a great bullet when he was spurned by voter reason. MAGA !

  2. PM isn’t an elected position. In fact it’s hardly described at all in the mass of documents that is described as the “Canadian Constitution”. The PM does not even have to be a member of Parliament: Carney was not, and indeed has never held any elected office. They could have Barack Obama as PM tomorrow, if they wished; I wouldn’t complain.

Obama is the first president in 100 years to not move from DC and try to influence US foreign policy in a clear violation of the Logan Act, but of course, no Democrat can be charged with anything.

    As far as I’m aware, only three of his predecessors lived in DC after leaving office. One did so having been elected to Congress. Another did so consequent to having been appointed Chief Justice. A third did so because while in office he’d married a local merchant who had lived in town quite innocent of political involvements for 18 years before they met; she’d also never lived any of the places he’d lived before he arrived in Washington.

    I had relatives on Oahu from 1937 to 1987 and I visited them on four occasions during Obamas youth. I don’t recognize your description of the place from my own observations and that of family who made their home there.

    Plenty of Punahou alumni remember him. You might try asking people you know who are private prep school alumni, since they all seem to know each other.

    Mixed race black children have lived in Hawaii for many decades now. My Hawaiian college roommate knew a few of them from his prep school. He said they generally insisted on being not-black, until around 1992, when they all of a sudden insisted they were black. I suspect a connection to the release of The Chronic featuring one Snoop Doggy Dogg.

    …a soon-to-be published biography by David Maraniss entitled “Barack Obama: The Story” gives more detail on Obama’s pot-smoking days, complete with testimonials from young Barry Obama’s high school buddies, a group that went by the name “the Choom Gang.” Choom was slang for smoking marijuana.

    Maraniss portrays the teenage Obama as not just a pot smoker, but a pot-smoking innovator.

    “As a member of the Choom Gang,” Maraniss writes, “Barry Obama was known for starting a few pot-smoking trends.”

    The first Obama-inspired trend: “Total Absorption” or “TA”.

    “TA was the opposite of Bill Clinton’s claim that as a Rhodes scholar at Oxford he smoked dope but never inhaled,” explains Maraniss. Here’s how it worked: If you exhaled prematurely when you were with the Choom Gang, “you were assessed a penalty and your turn was skipped the next time the joint came around.”

    As one of Obama’s old high school buddies tells Maraniss: “Wasting good bud smoke was not tolerated.”

    Another Obama innovation: “Roof Hits.”

    “When they were chooming in a car all the windows had to be rolled up so no smoke blew out and went to waste; when the pot was gone, they tilted their heads back and sucked in the last bit of smoke from the ceiling.”

    Maraniss also says Obama was known for his “Interceptions”: “When a joint was making the rounds, he often elbowed his way in, out of turn, shouted ‘Intercepted!,’ and took an extra hit.”

    Although Obama himself wrote that he and his pot smoking buddies were a “club of disaffection,” Maraniss says that’s not really true.

    “In fact, most members of the Choom Gang were decent students and athletes who went on to successful and productive lawyers, writers and businessmen,” Maraniss writes. One notable exception was Ray, the group’s pot dealer who, known for his ability “to score quality bud,” would years later be killed by a scorned gay lover armed with a ball-peen hammer.

    Obama himself managed to be a pretty good student despite all the pot smoking and unconventional study habits.

    “He told his Choom Gang mates that the trick was if you put the textbook under your pillow the night before you would perform better on an exam,” Maraniss writes. No way, dude!

    Columbia University has successfully concealed his records. The dust jacket of one of his earlier books identifies him as Kenya born. The PR official at his publisher later said that was her doing, FWIW.

I think what nobody in Hawaii remembers is Ann Dunham and a romantic affair with Obama’s father, fueling the speculation that Obama’s name on that birth certificate was to cover for what really happened, presumed to be an affair with a black man in the Seattle area. Ann and baby returned to that area shortly after the baby’s birth. Only she knew the whole truth, and perhaps her parents. None of this would be the child’s fault.

    The idea that Obama was born in Kenya was always highly implausible.

    Snopes [dot] com has an article on it, where: a company, described as, “a literary agency”, [which I guess is like a book publishing company?],…in 1991, wrote and printed a booklet, that listed one of its writers.

    This writer was Barack Obama, who later became a president. A president of the USA.

    This booklet said that Barack Obama WAS BORN IN KENYA.

    …As in, Kenya, a country outside of the United States, if some readers of this comment don’t have that factoid close by.

    …if Obama has truly been born outside of the U.S., then he would not have been eligible to get the job as the USA’s president.

    The woman who wrote in the booklet, the statement that [Barack Obama had been born in Kenya], said: that her writing that statement was, “a factual error” on her part, + [that her company and her, aka “us”], [were never given information that suggested, that Obama was [not born in Hawaii, USA], + was born in Kenya].

    I see….

    So [where] did this idea come from?

    SOMEONE told her to: write that claim,…or SOMEONE told her…I’m guessing- it wold be one of her superiors- that this statement should be written in the booklet, TO SAY THAT OBAMA WAS BORN IN KENYA, and [not] in the United States.

    (Please pardon my capital letters, above, but I thought that was an important idea to highlight.)

    It is very unlikely that someone put the claim, that Obama was born in Kenya, in that booklet- while thinking that it was [not true].

    Does this company, Acton & Dystel, often make claims about its writers, without checking first, to see if those claims are true?

    To me, personally, this booklet’s claim about his birthplace, doesn’t prove that he was [not] born outside of The USA, but It makes me think that this claim was published, for a booklet to be circulated inside the company- that this event does create some possible doubt that he was born in the USA.

    To me- if it gets proven that he was born out of the USA, + [that would make it illegal for him to become the president], then that [theoretical proof] would be too late, anyhow.

    Obama has served 8 years as president, and people can’t [undo] the fact that he was the president and that he did the job of being the president.

    I think- if that claim was proven true, it would be pointless to take him, or any people, to court over the claim.

    It would be like finding out-
    that an ex-quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys was found, after his 1) being a quarterback for years, and then 2) leaving that job, that- [he was not eligible to get the quarterback’s job in the first place].

    This theoretical quarterback- got the job, did it for years, and then left the job.

    You can’t [undo]: someone getting a job in the past, and then doing the job in the past.

    Neither can anyone [undo]: Obama getting a job in the past, and then doing that job in the past.

    What’s done is done.

    The published booklet, about Obama, does make some interesting questions, however.

    These questions, in my opinion, are very much worth thinking about.

    It doesn’t look like any evidence that he was born outside of the USA, will appear.

    Barack Obama: “was born in Kenya and raised in Indonesia and Hawaii”. )

    Among those who knew them at the time (and remembers it) was Neil Abercrombie, later the Gov. of Hawaii. (Jack Cashill has accused Gov. Abercrombie of lying about this and that; no clue if Cashill is a reliable narrator).

    Barack Obama Jr. would have been conceived the last week of October 1960, give or take two weeks. The Dunham family had already moved to Honolulu at that point. Barack Obama Sr. was a student at the University of Hawaii at the time, went to the trouble of marrying her in February 1961 (a marriage legally invalid), and is listed on the birth certificate. I have no clue why his paternity is somehow less plausible than some other candidate’s.

    That was certainly true when Carney was made PM, but in the general election a couple months later he was elected to Parliament. Carney was made PM on 9 March, 2025, and elected in Nepean in Ontario 28 April 2025.

    A former co-worker of mine was a classmate of his at that fancy private high school he attended. Of course doesn’t prove where he was born though I believe the newspaper report that showed him being born in Honolulu.

    PS – “mixed race” is less remarkable in Hawaii than almost anywhere else in the US. Though usually API rather than black.

    There are very few blacks in Hawaii and a mixed White/African American child is recognizably different from White/API.
    People would be rushing to claim they knew him as a baby. Just like they talk about his time as a ‘Buff & Blue’.

    Thanks, I missed that. There’s nothing like a residency requirement to represent a riding, they just found one for him, out of several possibilities including ones in Alberta. Canada inherits that from the United Kingdom. Winston Churchill for example spent most of his career as MP for Dundee, which is in Scotland, though his primary residence was in Kent when it wasn’t London.

Wherever Obama was born matters not now, what he has done and continues to do is the real concern. “Fundamental transformation” isn’t some catchy rhetoric, it was an implied threat to everything fundamental in this country – namely the Constitution, and everything in it. Valerie Jarrett found her “lightbringer” or “lightworker” to make that happen.
    Donald Trump is undoing that “transformation”, that’s why he’s deemed A THREAT. A threat to Obama’s Democrat Party, just in case you were unsure who leads the Democrat Party. His trip to Canada pretty much verifies that.

Then some Romney staffers started putting out tweets about Obama’s dog-eating and he backed off. One of the few smart things the Romney campaign did.

    There is no mystery. He has a Hawaii birth certificate and there was a contemporaneous birth announcement in the local paper. His mother’s family moved to Hawaii in June of 1960 and there is a listing of them in the 1961 Polk Directory.
