  1. To be fair, Ms. Watson is a reporter for CBS, so you can’t expect her to know much. Worse yet, she likes candy corn. No, really, check her profile page. So what can you expect?

As it’s April 1st I had to wonder whether Glenn Reynold’s shot at candy corn lovers isn’t some sort of elaborate jest.

  2. I remember seeing that dance routine for the first time and how impressed my young self was with it. Both showing their vaudeville roots. Back when Hollywood made movies.

Now for something completely different (thanks to John Cleese). Just a tip about a black conservative I follow on youtube. His name is Anton Daniels. Grew up in the hood and made a life for himself, now a Republican conservative. Still has his accent, but spends a lot of time decrying the ghetto culture and his own “black fatigue”. Here’s a sample from today where he looks at 3 women being arrested on a Frontier flight.

  3. While Cagney gained his fame playing movie gangster roles (e.g., The Roaring Twenties), he started out in theater / vaudeville as a hoofer.

Check out the movie “Yankee Doodle Dandy,” which starred Cagney as George M Cohan, in which he does a lot of dancing.

  4. Mary Catherine Ham on Rep. David Morales’ (D-RI) assertion that the mural for Iryna Zarutska “does not reflect our values”:

“Iryna should have crossed the border illegally, committed several felonies, preferably violent, instead of dying at the hands of a cold-blooded murderer on a bus if she wanted to be cared about in a blue city.”

“Cold-blooded murderer” is right. I don’t care if the murderer is mentally ill. That’s not an excuse nor is it a tolerable explanation for what he did. I hope he gets the death penalty for his hideous crime.

  5. I would be surprised if an ex-vaudville person didn’t hoof it at least a little.

  6. I love that dancing duo!
But, I didn’t see anything April Foolish about today’s Open Thread video. So here is a little humor for the Day.

A picture for the Neophiles, and especially for huxley.
Thanks for the Squirrel Feeder Chronicles.

And one for Snow on Pine, for keeping us posted on the UFO scene.
Bonus to those who identify Rubio’s costume.

And one for AesopSpouse, in memory of our recent summers in Wyoming.

  7. “CAIR scolds Rep. Chip Roy for his ‘No more Muslims’ comment”

“No more Muslims. No more criminals. No more Marxists. No more corporatists. #SaveTexas,” the Texas Republican said Sunday on social media, prompting accusations from CAIR and others that he is Islamophobic.
    [snip]
Mr. Roy is not the only lawmaker to make inflammatory comments about Muslims.

GOP Reps. Andy Ogles of Tennessee and Randy Fine of Florida encountered public backlash this month for a series of anti-Muslim comments.

Mr. Ogles said, “Muslims don’t belong in American society,” prompting Democrats to propose censuring him. Mr. Fine said, “We need more Islamophobia, not less.”

When reporters recently asked about such rhetoric from members of his party, House Speaker Mike Johnson, Louisiana Republican, said there is “a lot of popular sentiment that the demand to impose Shariah law in America is a serious problem.”

  8. Speaking of Rep Chip Roy making inflammatory comments about Muslims’s, how about my T-shirt saying “Mo’s Go Home”?

  9. Neo: Why put large bands of dead space above and below the video like that? Even in full-screen mode the screen is almost all black dead space with the video taking up only 1/9th of the screen. One can’t see much of anything. It’s really annoying.

”I hope he gets the death penalty for his hideous crime.”

I doubt Iryna’s killer spends more than five years in prison for this crime. I wouldn’t even be surprised if at some point in the future the charges are quietly dropped.

  10. Re: Thanks for the Squirrel Feeder Chronicles.

    AesopFan:

You’re welcome. I do run a nut house these days.

The latest wrinkle is Squirrel 2, who I think is the child of Squirrel 1, lately comes towards me as I watch through the back door window panes. Yesterday Squ 1 was within six feet of me. Then scampered off stage left.

I know it can see me through the window. I don’t know what that’s about. It does seem Squ 1 is less afraid of me now.

  11. The tap shoes couldn’t have done anything positive to the surface of that table.

  12. Comment on the video:

“Seven Little Foys”. Cagney refused a fee. His appearance was his thank you to Eddie Foy who had been very kind and supportive to him as a struggling young performer.

I did wonder. These days I often check the video comments for AI. Many are.

    Geez. Cagney is good!

  13. @ huxley > “Cagney refused a fee. His appearance was his thank you to Eddie Foy who had been very kind and supportive to him as a struggling young performer.”

A Hollywood, and larger society, long relegated to the past, so it seems today; I wish we could get back to that aspect of the Golden Age.

  14. @ Mike Plaiss > “Artemis II launches four astronauts around the moon this evening

Thanks for that great link, but I missed the launch itself, and watching the people wandering around or sitting at desks in Mission Control is not too exciting.

April Fools Day might have been a propitious choice for launch conditions, but it’s only going to feed the “Moon Landing Hoax” contingent.
