I could be wrong — I hope I am — but Democrats could pick up a governorship and a Senate seat in Ohio next month. Both Democratic candidates, former Senator Sherrod Brown and former AG Amy Acton, are polling well even though they are lackluster candidates. Turnout will be key to the race, and ‘m not seeing much energy on either side. So I encourage Neo’s readers to get out there and vote!
Update on “Where’s Talrico?” – albeit still basically a rumor:
Watt: I do not believe the PJ Media report that Talarico may have had a full-blown mental breakdown {sic} and checked himself into an institution. That is smply preposterous. He has perhaps had some acute illness that has laid hm low–we shall simply wait for accurate news. Meanwhile, his campaign for the US Senate by someone unqualified to be a Senator fortunately flaggs.
Re: Talarico MIA
Smells fishy to me. An illness may be part of it, but I doubt that’s the whole story.
In the last month of a campaign in a serious race a candidate doesn’t just disappear with a vague story about illness. Why not a Zoom call at least? He’s not feeling well enough to put on a suit and tie and sit at a desk for 15 minutes?
Maybe he’s hanging out with the MIA Iranian Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei.
In any event “If I get sick, I may disappear for a few weeks” is not a winning campaign message to voters.
Good.

Please enlighten me as to the meaning of “flaggs”. As a lover of words, I tried to find some definition, but could not. The context as you use it tends to suggest a word such as “falters”. Not being nit-picky; I’m just curious.
flag:
…
intransitive verb
To lose vigor or strength; weaken or diminish.
The conversation flagged.
Wretchard hits (another) one out of the park…
Admiral Halsey and his Philippino steward…(with a cameo by Jimmy Cagney):
In its defense, the Pj Media report on the possibility of a Talarico mental breakdown clearly says it is unconfirmed, and solicits information one way or the other. Whether an unconfirmed rumor should be published is a good question.
Thank you! I can’t remember ever encountering “flag” as an intransitive verb.
Looks like (1) the many sources I found were incomplete, (2) my education has been incomplete, and/or (3) I haven’t lived long enough to have encountered it.
(Ha!) I will try to record some of the sources you quoted for future use.
Good job.

I’m pretty sure I learned that usage of flag from all the pulp fiction I read as a teen.
Perhaps that’s why most of the French I read is pulp fiction. It’s got a beat, you can read to it. 🙂
Maye Talarico had Monkeypox?
Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
TESTING. Not going to renew a four year Hostinger self-hosted blog — they went up like $50 a year. Will see if X subscription links to my handle…
Could be worse for Talarico, the Red Cross is now asking about Ebola in their blood pre-donation questionnaire.
When Talarico resurfaced, he spent 15 minutes at a music festival shaking hands and posing for stills. That’s the proof of life. (While incommunicado, he ignored a request for a Zoom interview from a local TV station).

I think it’s a reasonable wager his press agents are lying about what his issue is, but haven’t seen any explanation that’s not a work of the imagination.
This report says Talarico’s stay in an Ohio mental health facility is confirmed.
