I plan … — 25 Comments

  1. My opinion is not important here, but please do take what time you feel you need. We’ll be here and in support.

  2. Take all the time you want. We will be here whenever you are ready to share your wisdom and wit. Where else would we be?

  3. I could not agree more with the many earlier, caring comments.
You need time, rest, and the support of your loved ones who are there in person.
    Blessings! And again, condolences, Neo.

  4. Don’t hurry on our account.
The work of helping rearrange a lifetime of someone else’s accumulations is not done speedily. And you’ll do it lovingly.
God bless you, your son and family.

  5. Dear Neo,

So sorry for your and your son’s loss. Over the years of reading your posts I feel like we readers and commenters are part of a large family. As a big brother, I would encourage you, as others have, to take time off to grieve and to put your affairs in order. Mike Plaiss can keep the discussions going with his good ideas for as long as you need to recover.

My topic for today’s discussion revolves around yesterday’s state elections in Germany. I find it ironic and distressing that nearly 40 years after Berliner’s rejoiced at the fall of the Berlin wall the successors of the former East German SED, the Linke, have dominated the Berlin elections. Berlin does not represent all of Germany but there will be a carry over effect on the politics of the rest of the nation. Berlin recently lowered the voting age to 16 and has the 2nd highest number of Turks of any world city. The leader of the Linke Party is Elif Eralp, born in Turkey. Her team recently visited Mamdani in NYC to get tips on how to take over Berlin (affordability and tax the rich) . Many of her supporters call for the destruction of Israel and the Jews. Chancellor Merz’s CDU (traditional center right) Party suffered a massive wipe out in Mecklenburg Vorpommern. Germany is in for rough days ahead, I am afraid.

A breakdown of how the votes played out follows:

  6. @Xylourgos: I agree that Germany is in for rough days. How Angela Merkel would import so many people that there would be substantial national sub-groups, and not expect problems later, is stunning. Or do politicians only see into the future until the end of their term?

  7. Take as much time as you need. Grief has no timetable.

May the Lord bless you and keep you
May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you
May the Lord turn His face towards you and give you peace

  8. Belated condolences Neo. I was distracted and just saw the sad news this morning.
Many who have come to care for you have recommended taking time off. My suggestion is to do whatever works best for you. For some, work is therapeutic; and you may fit that category. I went fishing yesterday.
A bit of irony, despite two plus years of Ovarian Cancer, and multiple fruitless tests in the final days, the Medicos decided that my wife died of aspiration pneumonia. A new term to me.
I hope that you find a measure of comfort in knowing that you were true to the end.

  9. Oldflyer:

You said well what I have also been thinking; that neo should do what she needs. Not necessarily what we think she needs.

We can encourage and uplift her but not direct her.

Praying for you, Kate, and Shirehome as well.

I am also praying that J.J. is well, we haven’t heard from him in many weeks.

  10. Oldflyer, condolences to you and your family on the loss of your wife.

I hope that in the sorrow there also is resolution and peace.

  11. This has been a sad week, condolences to Neo and also SHIREHOME, Oldflyer and William Klein and anyone else I may have missed.

The sad part of long life is the death of many friends and family.

  12. Why, thank you, om. I’ll be back at home and my own life Wednesday next week.

If Neo finds blogging therapeutic, and I think she does, then we look forward to helping her out by reading her work.

  13. Losing folk you care about is difficult and Bless you and your family as you move on along, which is never easy and it’s a process, as you remember good loving stuff. Words are just words so I all I can think to say is, just honor and cherish memories and thank you for all of the past few decades you have shared your thoughts with us.

  14. Take as long as you need Neo. I’ve been here since near the beginning. Not going anywhere.

    Hugs

  15. A fairly straightforward article about a recent paper on cosmology.

    https://scitechdaily.com/biggest-supernova-dataset-yet-challenges-dark-energy-theory/

The largest catalog of Type Ia supernovae assembled so far is giving astronomers a more detailed record of cosmic expansion. The results add to evidence that dark energy, the unknown component believed to drive that expansion, may evolve rather than remain constant.

I find this depressing because damnit I want answers. We know almost nothing about the nature of dark energy, if it changes over time I have no idea how we’re going to answer the cosmological questions we’re after.

  16. I concur with Mike Plaiss and others, that Neo is a strong women and will follow her preferences as to what is best for her in this difficult time.

So I also concur with Mike that using this thread as an open one is a way for us to honor Neo’s contribution to the blogosphere and our dedication to her role in our surfing lives.
“The WSJ says, …it’s fair to ask whether this deal could have been reached without the collateral damage to U.S. alliances from Mr. Trump’s bullying threats.
It’s also fair to ask if it couldn’t have.”

My view on the Greenland “thing” is that as with most well played poker hands, we in the observation booths will never really know what convinced whomever to agree to Trump’s core goal of supplying a critical national security stance and filling a hole that our enemies might have taken opportunity of in the future.
It is clear than neither the 56,000 citizens of Greenland nor their several million Norwegian political cohorts had, or would ever have, the defense resources necessary to prevent China, Russia, or even side liners like Turkey, North Korea, or someone else, from encroaching on the North Atlantic and Northwest Passage. If I understand the public statements so far, the Trump agreement provides for permanent “forever” access and security control over Greenland’s boundaries and by extension the mineral or related resources within this very large island.

This is not the first time that Trump has demonstrated a mode of demanding an extreme position, and then settling for and achieving a result that is “sufficient for its purpose”.
The impact of “collateral damage to U.S. alliances” is more difficult to judge, long term, or even if this particular move was not also a parallel continuation of getting the European countries and perhaps NATO to put their big boy pants on. I actually find the concept of Canada joining the EU to be a more troubling issue, mostly from a commerce/ finance perspective, but because the political results are also very messy and muddy right now, given the strength of Leftist voices in Canadian politics.

  17. Meanwhile, Sharyl Attkisson has posted a marvelous (possibly definitive) video compilation with commentary that demonstrates why certain corrupt media have been banned from the White House. Enjoy.

BTW, the compilation is an evidentiary exhibit that also explains why I no longer vote for candidates. Rather, I vote against whomever the MSM blatantly supports. I first used that standard to vote against Obama back in the day.
