The left isn’t changing its mind on Fauci
Of course not.
A mind – even a collective hive mind – is a difficult thing to change. Cognitive dissonance is very uncomfortable; people usually will turn themselves into pretzels to justify the position they already hold.
What’s more, it’s easy to avoid the current coverage that condemns Fauci, and concentrate on coverage that continues to praise him. See this:
[The recent] Senate Homeland Security Committee hearing with Anthony Fauci revealed one thing: the Democrats and their media allies will stop at nothing to protect Anthony Fauci. Despite his lies, his corruption, and the indescribable harm Fauci inflicted on the American people during COVID—all proven with his diary—the Democrats and media still hail him as a hero.
Last night, watch how CNN’s Abby Phillip shut down conversations about the diary, which also made CNN’s Jake Tapper look really bad.
They’ve had an awful lot of practice in this sort of thing.

The leftists I follow are all about how Trump pleaded the 5th X number of times, therefore it’s fine Fauci did it. His crimes are ignored.
I have almost never seen a Democrat, leftist or a Muslim arguing in good faith on a hot button issue.
There are a few, but they tend to switch sides eventually.
Yet many of Leftists died from Covid but Leftists don’t blame their Demigod but will blame something else.
huxley – they turn against their side gets them tossed outside.
I’ll confess that I’m not very good or practiced at doing AI queries, but I tried a few times to get an itemized list of contradictions from the Fauci diary, via Co-Pilot. All I could get was some blather about how it was a matter of perception and context.
The Left never will.
All I could get was some blather
AI will just regurgitate what it reads on the net, it is the cheapest reaction. You have to engage and get it to do research on specific topics, point out problems, that sort of thing. It isn’t intelligent, but it holds a lot of content if you can get to it. And if you change topics without warning, it will go over the edge.
For instance, I asked Grok how the notes were obtained:
In a later clarification (including on Glenn Beck’s show), Kennedy explained that Fauci had kept the notes—intended as material for a book/memoir—on government systems. Near the end of his tenure as NIAID director, Fauci emailed the full set to himself. HHS recovered them while searching Fauci’s emails and other official files in response to congressional oversight requests/subpoenas. An HHS spokesperson emphasized that these were government records created and maintained on government servers (not purely private materials), making them subject to retention, oversight, and production under applicable law.
Many of our “liberal” friends are, at best, crazy.
Just returned from dinner in Beverly Hills with a Jewish liberal Democrat Party member.?He brought up the issue of politics, so I felt free to ask him this hypothetical:?
You are about to vote in a Democrat Party primary to nominate a Democrat Party candidate for Congress.?Your choices are as follows: one is a Democrat Socialists of America member who is an avowed antisemite and the other is a hypothetical incumbent who is your regular run-of-the-mull Democrat Party member of Congress.
His response: “There is insufficient information in the hypothetical to make a decision.”
To make sure he heard the hypothetical, I asked him if he understood that in the hypothetical the first of the two candidates is an avowed antisemite and if remembered that he (my liberal friend) is a Jew.
He said, “Yes, and yes.
“?So,” I asked, “Which one would you vote for?”
?He responded, “I still don’t have enough information to choose.”
@ Charles R Harris – thanks for the information; NONE of the stories I have read to date explained WHY Sen. Paul had the diaries.
Obviously Fauci does not read enough (a) spy novels; (b) news reports about other people caught incriminating themselves electronically.
As for the Democrats (normies as opposed to lying Lefties): how can you ever come to any kind of understanding with people who deny and even avoid plain evidence just because it didn’t come from their Regime Media — and likely even then: easier to claim “the NYT caved to MAGA intimidation” than to admit their tin-plated gods are frauds.
Scott Adams used to say the left and right were watching different movies on the same screen; now we are not even in the same theater, and theirs is not even showing the same films!

He also lists a number of ways to escape your filters when they are leading you into error.

We lost a great explainer when he passed away!
I did not always agree with Scott Adams, but I routinely viewed his hour-long video postings daily. He was very insightful on many topics and even when I disagreed with him, I found his arguments cogent. I really, really miss him. Almost as much as Limbaugh.
Follow up on my first comment above on the leftists I follow. Besides the “what about Trump…” deflection, the line now is that MAGA is smearing someone who should be rejoiced in being an honorable man who saved us all. And then they start in with the revival of all the crap we saw during Covid: of course masks work, social distancing is needed, the virus came from the market, etc, etc. Even a few years out and with all the investigation into covid, they haven’t changed at all.
Once again, confirmation ( I hope I’m no falling into the Adams trap that AesopFan points out) of Neo’s basic premise.
I scanned a couple of posts and comments on my FB feed, mostly from what appeared to be medical people, who indignantly insisted that Fauci had saved lives, was a miracle worker, and a reputable scientist, blah-blah-blah. I would concede that someone working in a hospital and who did deal with the desperately ill from Covid would have a different recollection of the whole thing. But the rest of us – who were living out in the real world and for whom the Covid was nothing more than an ordinary seasonal flu – had a rather different and bitter experience of the very cruel idiocies perpetrated on us by authority-crazed bureaucrats and politicians.
My niece didn’t have her college graduation. My daughter didn’t have visitors to her maternity ward room when she gave birth to my grandson. (And I couldn’t go with her to all of her pre-natal appointments.) My little brother’s father in-law isolated himself in his condo for 2 years, and essentially scared himself to death. Any kind of public market or convention event came to a screeching halt for more than a year. People lost businesses, children lost at least two years of schooling, and most of us became extremely skeptical of “expert” opinions.
And I lived through all of this in Texas, where at least we could leave the house and go walk in the neighborhood, visit a park, work in the garden. We counted ourselves lucky that we weren’t in a place where the authorities insisted that you stay put in your house for days, weeks, months … because of something which for most people without pre-existing issues, was no worse than a seasonal flu.
I’m a strongly assert that people believe what they want to believe-oftentimes irrespective of reality (or the truth). I know many, many Jewish people and exactly 1 who in the aftermath of Oct. 7 2023, over time, opened her eyes and has completely left the hive. She is the lone member of her family to do so and has broken off friendships and association with some people because of the change. She completely sees it now. Happily, she is not a nut and has not disavowed her college age daughters who, though they have suffered for the crime of being Jewish and had to leave one prominent university for another, remain deluded. She in turn only knows 1 person who came to her senses.
The next time a masking mafia comes out, I suspect someone will make a lot of money producing clearly gossomer masks that also read “Masks Don’t Work!”
The only queer I know well enough to talk to, hates Fauci with a white hot passion . Blames him for the death of thousands in the queer community . He is about as far left as anyone I know and raises hell with his fellow leftist about worshiping Fauci . I assume most leftist don’t know about Fauci and the aids epidemic. I wouldn’t either I guess , except for Lou.
But it’s still Trumps fault for not firing Fauci.

Skip:
Tell me about it.
I don’t know what you mean, the Left changes their mind all the time, usually when they start accusing the Right of what the Left did or when they start their “old news, let’s move on” shtick. “We’ve always been at war with Eastasia.”
@ Nate > The Left does not change its mind. The mind remains directed toward whatever leads to more power and money. The utility of different positions changes.
