Spambot of the day — 18 Comments

  1. Encouraging news for Democrats…

…Wherein we learn that Newsom et al. may be able to destroy the country even if they lose the next 2026 and 2028 elections…

    “THIS JUST IN”—

    Key blurb:
    “California is functionally bankrupt.”

  2. The poor bot’s first sentence was odd but tantalizing, the second coherent but bland. It was all downhill from there.

  3. A Chatbot said Here’s a clear, natural English rendering of that passage:

“I enjoyed what you’ve done here. The outline is appealing and your writing style is elegant. Still, it feels like you’re rushing through what comes next. I’ll definitely come back again, but only if you keep improving and maintain this level of quality.”

If you want it to sound more formal, more casual, or closer to the original tone, I can reshape it.

  4. Cindy Simon: Yes, I thought similarly.
Harris was somehow, somewhere … dipping in the same “market” of writers.

  5. It’s funny we say “bot” but the LLMs actually do a way better job. This was probably composed by some Elbonian who’s paid 1/10th of a cent per post.

    I prompted Grok with

This is such a thoughtful and well-written piece! I really enjoyed reading it and gained some new perspectives. Thanks for sharing your insights—looking forward to more content like this!

I imagine this is much more typical of actual spam, but of course wouldn’t have rated a mention.

    “California is functionally bankrupt.”
An update from the belly of the beast.

The California 2026 primary is a few months off, but we have been bombarded with commercials from democrat candidates for governor. One wag observed that we are getting more Tom Steyer commercials than for injury, lawyers. He is promising free school lunches, and government run medical care. Being California, the Democrats have tried to pass socialized medicine in the past but even they balked at the $1 trillion per year cost.

Steyer is polling in the middle of the pack, about 10% and behind both Republicans who are polling about 16%. It would be great if one of the Republicans dropped out but being Republicans they do the stupid thing and refuse to. So with California’s jungle primary, we may end up with two Democrats running against each other.

The so-called billionaire tax has gotten a lot of publicity but I have not seen any commercials for or against it. Steyer does not come out clearly on it. Instead he wants to attack proposition 13.

I am really concerned about the wealth tax. If it passes, I may have to leave the state, although I have roots here.

  7. Re: California

Voters there will elect for governor another liberal progressive socialist / communist whose policies are aligned with those of Karen Bass and Newsom.

And while I am making predictions, 4 years from now NYC Mayor Mandami will be re-elected .

  8. The essential requirement of spam is to bypass the spam filters. No more, no less.

This is old-school “spintax” spam which throws together phrases and synonyms to sound vaguely intelligible and polite without setting off the filters or even a human. It’s essentially madlibs. See:

The “payload” is in the Username or Website field or via repetition in the text. Or possibly just to establish the spambot as a trusted contributor.

Spintax is so cheap that only a small amount of it has to work to be worthwhile.

The bad news is that spintax is being superseded by AI LLMs which will be much harder to filter.

  9. I think the “next word prediction algorithm” that spambot was using had a stroke.

  10. Spambot;

    I don’t think it’s Spambot at all.

I think it’s a response that Kamala “Cackling” Harris gave when asked; ” do you prefer vanilla ice cream or chocolate?”

  11. West coast phenomenon?

    Look at Oregon.
    Look at Washington State.

(Probably more accurate to call it a “progressive” phenomenon…cf. Minnesota, Colorado, Illinois, NY…)

So…wonder if Carney will bail out BC…kinda like “Biden” had to engage in oodles and oodles of grift to, among other things, bail out all those corrupt, bankrupt blue states and cities…

It’s why Harris’s loss was such a cataclysmic event for all of ‘em sucking hard at the American teat, fully confident that they’d be able to do so forever.

And it’s why Trump has been such a disaster for that party of kleptomaniacs, gangsters, thugs and liars…

(In case anyone’s surprised that the Democrats have, for the most part, FUNDAMENTALLY TRANSFORMED themselves into totally deranged berserkers…)
