The WaPo and the AP decide (for the moment, anyway) that maybe Antifa aren’t such freedom fighters after all
Take a look at the headlines: “Black-clad antifa attack peaceful right-wing demonstrators in Berkeley,” and “Black-clad anarchists swarm anti-hate rally in California.” The first is from the WaPo and the second the AP; the first is more critical of Antifa than the second, but both seem to represent somewhat of a switch from the coverage Antifa has gotten so far.
This is from the AP article:
Berkeley Police Chief Andrew Greenwood said officers were told not to actively confront the anarchists. He applauded officers’ restraint, saying it forestalled greater violence. Six people suffered injuries, including two who were hospitalized, and one officer was injured while making an arrest and several others were hit with paint.
There were 13 arrests on various charges including, assault with a deadly weapon.
“The potential use of force became very problematic” given the thousands of peaceful protesters in the park, Greenwood said. Once anarchists arrived, it was clear there would not be dueling protests between left and right so he ordered his officers out of the park and allowed the anarchists to march in.
What’s up with that last sentence? It’s patently absurd as a defense of the police. A large number of anarchists with a violent history crash a previously peaceful demonstration, and it’s then that the police leave? And we’re not supposed to think the police winked at the violence on Antifa’s part that was inevitable at that point?
There’s much much more there, although it’s a bit hard to sort out because the article isn’t very well-written. What I’ve gleaned from it, though, is that there were two planned demonstrations by the right billed as anti-Marxism protests. The first had been originally set for Saturday in San Francisco in Crissy Field, and it was organized by Joey Gibson, leader of a group called Patriot Prayer. It was canceled due to concerns over deficits in the planned security arrangements by police. According to the article, Gibson is Japanese-American:
…[and has] consistently denounced racism. In a video he posted on Patriot Prayer’s Facebook page, Gibson said he is a person of color and so if he was in favor of white nationalism “I’d have to punch myself in the face.”
That information was offered rather late in the article.
A second demonstration had been planned by the right for Sunday in Berkeley, and it was also canceled:
The anti-Marxist rally in Berkeley was organized by Amber Cummings, a transsexual supporter of Trump. Citing the potential for violence, she canceled the event but said she would show up on her own. She was not seen there, though Gibson vowed to come and when he did anarchists set upon him.
They pepper-sprayed him and chased him as he backed away with his hands held in the air. Gibson rushed behind a line of police wearing riot gear, who set off a smoke bomb to drive away the attackers.
It was this second demonstration at which the violence occurred. It wasn’t much of a demonstration on the part of the right, because very few people showed up. But the ones who did were completely peaceful, and Antifa was violent. This wasn’t a case of “both sides were…”. The violence was completely one-sided.
The reporters who were there seem to have been a bit shocked by what they saw, although they shouldn’t have been; Antifa has shown its propensities long ago. Perhaps something about witnessing armed (with sticks and shields) people attacking peaceful demonstrators got the reporters’ attention—or perhaps it was the fact that some reporters were menaced as well.
It remains to be seen whether the MSM will continue this line of coverage in the future. I happen to doubt it, but I could be wrong.
I would think this experience, and the Berkeley police response to it, would be very very empowering for Antifa. Demonstrations on the right canceled: check. Police back down when Antifa arrives: check. Mission accomplished.

I’m disgusted by the violent actions of antifa. And I don’t know what they think they are trying to do, other than create mahem. They are just ensuring a Republican congress continues and Trump gets re-elected in 2020.
On a side note (and I apologize for distracting a moment from this post) . . . for those of you who pray, please pray for Houston. It is unbelievable here. For myself and my family, we are still for the moment unflooded, but so many friends have lost their houses to the waters and have had to wait for boat rescue, taking just what they can carry.

I think it is remarkable that there have been so many instances of masked men armed with bludgeons assaulting and battering others, yet not one of them has, to my knowledge been shot and killed in response.

The media are under authority and orders. Anti Fa are under the same authority and orders, so any fighting will soon be stopped until the time is right. However, they do not know that the same puppet master controls both of them. They think they are the ones controlling and using each other.

Here are my thoughts.
1) The left (particularly the anti-fa BLM, etc.) and right (both alt and mainstream) know that whoever shoots first loses. both sides are armed but will not use their guns until the other side does.
2) The anti-fa’s level of violence has been steadily escalating. They are also becoming less discriminating about their targets; anyone they perceive to be “right wing”. Last week a man was stabbed in the hand because he had a “nazi haircut”.
3) There is also an increase in “lone wolf” style attacks, like that nazi haircut guy.
If I had to guess, one day we’ll hear about a lone wolf attack on an armed civilian who shot his anti-fa attacker in self defense. After that, all the stops are off.
The biggest thing exasperating this is that the police are doing nothing, either because they’re afraid of the anti-fa or that they support them.

We have had some round-abouts lately on what-about-ism, and why something is okay for us but not for them, etc. The dilemma of means and ends never goes away, especially when there is focused and violent action supporting one side or the other (or both or all).
One thing I am starting to look for is: who is willing (even anxious) to hurt people or destroy property, not just among their “opponents” but among the bystanders and the un-aligned? Whatever their ends, and they may be “good” ends, their means are illegitimate, and their actions are tainted.
If achieving your goals requires defending yourself, even with violence, so long as you take care to avoid those who are not among your direct opponents, I’m willing to look more sympathetically on your cause.
None of this precludes “a pox on both your houses” where appropriate.

A wave of sentiment seems to be sweeping our nation that no action that is taken the name of opposing evil can possibly be bad. Or if it IS bad, that we’re supposed to be understanding of the sentiment that led the person to that place where they would hurt other people for good reasons.
I had a long conversation with a gentleman who couldn’t understand that accepting bad outcomes when the people creating those bad outcomes had pure hearts was not the loving position to take.
So it’s not even that the ends justify the means… excusing efforts to strip us (and it would be *all* of us) of our constitutional protections because it would lead to a good end, but even if it led to a bad end he couldn’t understand how a person would object when those involved were so clearly motivated by goodness in their hearts.
Bad “means” + bad “ends” + noble motivations = something that people should support?
You’d think that when stated that baldly, that the message would get through that this is simply unsupportable for any person who gives the least thought to other human beings and making a “Hell of earth.”
And I know from experience that the lofty goals, the loving hearts, the pure souls of the tormentors does not soften the abuse, but amplify it. And there is a reason that CS Lewis’s famous quote holds so true to me because I had an abuser given “approval of their own conscience.”

I did say for people here and elsewhere to expect death squads from the Left. People liked to make fun of that because they still saw the Left as a bunch of SJW whining weaklings. Most of them are, but the death squads are something different.
Of course anti fa is pretty weak for an American wannabe death squad. The real death squads come from military and civilian training, that is diverted to the Cause. Dallas BLM is a good example. Active marksmanship combined with cover taking, body armor, precision rifles, and move while shooting methodologies completely over power your police. Imagine what your neighborhood will be like if they were ever smart enough to cadre out this training method. If I was running their strat ops, it would be pretty high on the priority list.

After 2001, I got a really strong impression that I needed to strengthen my personal defense and HtoH methods, since dealing with people who are suicide attackers will be impossible otherwise.

Notice the label “right wing”? It’s a signal to readers that being against Marxism, being Christian or being in favor of free speech makes you an extremist.

About Seeger, I recall a story about a fellow taking his dad, who had been active in the labor movement in the 30’s, to a Seeger concert at Barnard. At one point Seeger announced that her was going to play a folk song from Birobidzhan, and this guy’s dad says in a loud voice, “What is this Stalinist bullshit?”, and then I think he left.

Jeremiah was the prophet in the Old Testament that said the Israelis would be punished if they didn’t repent. He was called a false prophet and people tried to hunt him down to kill him, since even after 30 years, his predictions still hadn’t happened.

Only the Aaronic priesthood of Moses’ brother, was said to pass down father to son.
The prophetic gifts or apostle level authority powers, were not passed down in this manner, so any children would probably be like Cain and Able.
