France chooses… — 27 Comments

  1. Rarely such pompous idiot as Hollande can be heard at such important position. His victory speech was awful in complete lack of substance and being full of the most primitive liberal and socialist platitudes. In 6 month France will become bankrupt unless he will implement and prolong all hated policies of Sarko. (Which is unlikely.) Suicide impulses of Europe are at full display but unstoppable.

  2. sergey: well, I wouldn’t call it a suicidal impulse, exactly. I’d call it wishful thinking.

And I hope the two things aren’t more or less the same.

  3. I really think you guys should look into modern monetary theory. And even if that is a bunch of bulldokey (haven’t made up my mind on it yet) the fact is people do not take kindly to having their living standards assaulted no matter the reason.

So this was predictable, and indeed, some on the net predicted it. Look for more turmoil in Europe.

  4. It’s entirely appropriate that the Socialists be sitting in command of the State as in navigates the Grand Canyon — sky style.

That’s why I’m so happy that Brown is chained to the mast-of-California as she takes the rough water down the Russian River.

It is Critical that they be fulsomely associated with the Results of their Policies.

Sometimes the voice of the people demands auto-revenge. So be it.

  5. Yes, wages and benefits are “sticky” on the downside. People don’t want to vote for a pay cut. Unfortunately, things that can’t go on forever won’t.

The deficit spending addiction reminds me of the joke about the young boy whose mother caught him masturbating. She told him he had to stop or he would go blind. He asked if he could continue until he needed glasses.

  6. I was about to say something about the French ability to accede–always–the black hole of expectations I have for them. Blert, however, reminded me of the very same horrific “country” right here in America: The Peoples Republic of California. The more it gets really, really bad…The more the Pinheads in Charge take it further down the anal pore of history. I grieve for my lifelong home state and sigh in relief that I snuck into Central Florida 6-years ago with some Messicans.

And, may Dick Morriss’s prediction of 55%-45% Romney Victory in Nov. be dazzlingly true.

  7. These two votes are the death-knell for the Euro and probably for the EEU. Some of the EU states seem now to gave discovered they sacrified individual state liberty, whether rightly or wrongly exercised, for the false security of the EEU and its Euro.

Echos of US States’ Rights need be seen as similar.
This may turn out well in the long run, for both sides of the Atlantic, despite the intermediate tumult snd dislocations. But if tariff walls go up, all good bets are off the table.

  8. blert: fully agree. It’s a shame Zapatero has riden off into the sunset and left the hapless PP to reap the whirlwind.

  9. Unfortunately, the debt crisis in the EU zone (Greece, Spain, Italy, etc.) is capable of taking down the financial system of the global economy. I checked markets in Asia a few minutes ago and several exchanges are down 2.5 to 3%. Is there special modifier for a bunch of black swans circling over head? Murder of crows, gaggle of geese, catastrophe of black swans?

  10. Parker…

When you can see the swans for a country mile, they’re not unexpected.

All of our swans will be white.

    Piebald, at the very least.

  11. Neo, generally speaking, wishful thinking and suicidal impulse are different things. But in present day situation wishful thinking is, indeed, suicidal, and socialism always includes at subconscious level some suicidal tendencies. When somebody jumps from a window of skyscraper he may want just to brave gravity laws and to fly a while like bird, but it is suicide nevertheless.

  12. Every party in Europe is a socialist party, even the so-called neo-Nazis and neo-fascists. The only difference between the parties is their degree of racial identification and commitment to totalitarianism.

  13. France chooses…

    …another round of socialism

Let ’em. They can be this decade’s example for how much worse things can get when you resort to socialism.

Not like all the previous examples haven’t already been noted by history, true… but still, having a near future example in the works will help further underline the failure. And let’s be brutally frank: Leftist advocates around the world seem to have too short an attention span and need recurrent reminders anyway, so this works out.

  14. Meet the new bums, worse than the old bums…
but without accepting what they say as being truthful, then what can one do? with every idiot follower of all these groups making apologies and regurgitating sanitized versions, there is no way to stop anything. the whole of it could have been handed down from Lucifer himself, with photos and video, and it wouldn’t matter, as even those in opposition would ignore it, make apologetics for it, erase history, create personal versions they can accept (having little to do with the actuality).

The absence of anything else allowed to be stable, by design moves them to this as their only belonging.

Socialism is the doctrine that man has no right to exist for his own sake, that his life and his work do not belong to him, but belong to society, that the only justification of his existence is his service to society, and that society may dispose of him in any way it pleases for the sake of whatever it deems to be its own tribal, collective good.

There is no difference between the principles, policies and practical results of socialism–and those of any historical or prehistorical tyranny.

Socialism is merely democratic absolute monarchy–that is, a system of absolutism without a fixed head, open to seizure of power by all corners, by any ruthless climber, opportunist, adventurer, demagogue or thug.

When you consider socialism, do not fool yourself about its nature.

Since even those opposed work FOR the ends of the thing, and refuse to see its nature, the eventual finality and assumptive end is fixed and immutable.

there is no way to stop the end result because there is no way to get the core of it known and by being known, be opposed from its source.

When one observes the nightmare of the desperate efforts made by hundreds of thousands of people struggling to escape from the socialized countries of Europe, to escape over barbed-wire fences, under machine-gun fire–one can no longer believe that socialism, in any of its forms, is motivated by benevolence and by the desire to achieve men’s welfare.

No man of authentic benevolence could evade or ignore so great a horror on so vast a scale.

Socialism is not a movement of the people. It is a movement of the intellectuals, originated, led and controlled by the intellectuals, carried by them out of their stuffy ivory towers into those bloody fields of practice where they unite with their allies and executors: the thugs.

and sadly enough, its the women with only recent experience in politics and asserting leaders that act as a homogeneous selector of such despotism (while at the same time agreeing to for the social license provided to such selfish believers).

During this weekend’s first round of presidential elections in France, the country’s far-right National Front Party saw an increase in female support under the leadership of its female candidate, Marine Le Pen.
    -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
The Socialist candidate, Frané§ois Hollande, who enters the second round of voting, won 29 percent of the women’s vote versus 28.6 percent of the overall electorate, according to the CSA-Terra Femina poll.

it is women who think the state is there to replace husbands and family and provide them welfare (most on welfare are women), tax rebates for children, free daycare, free healthcare… free birth control so they can go out and have sex on the stats/publics dime… and so on..

their idea is that the state provide everything, as the socialist state of the soviet union promised… and that’s what each country has done since suffrage…

vote away individual rights and vote in state slavery with breadcrumbs of bribes along the way.

It was Wiemar that did it first, and Herr Hitler showed them the way in this… and that’s been the game every since (on top of what its origins are)

The socialist candidate, Hollande, was most popular with young women between 18-34 (31 percent-34 percent), while women aged 65 and over preferred Sarkozy (42 percent).

The study also found that 39 percent of female voters had chosen a candidate long before election day, while 15 percent made their choice on the day they went to the polls.
    -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Nineteen percent of women said their purchasing power was their chief concern, followed by unemployment (16 percent) and social inequalities (14 percent). Those figures mirror the priorities of men

    At heart women are FASCISTS…

Both “socialism” and “fascism” involve the issue of property rights. The right to property is the right of use and disposal. Observe the difference in those two theories: socialism negates private property rights altogether, and advocates “the vesting of ownership and control” in the community as a whole, i.e., in the state; fascism leaves ownership in the hands of private individuals, but transfers control of the property to the government.

Ownership without control is a contradiction in terms: it means “property,” without the right to use it or to dispose of it. It means that the citizens retain the responsibility of holding property, without any of its advantages, while the government acquires all the advantages without any of the responsibility.

that last part is what we have as family and children now. the state owns them, but the parents raise them… and that is also the same with the social welfare stuff too…

In this respect, socialism is the more honest of the two theories. I say “more honest,” not “better”–because, in practice, there is no difference between them: both come from the same collectivist-statist principle, both negate individual rights and subordinate the individual to the collective, both deliver the livelihood and the lives of the citizens into the power of an omnipotent government–and the differences between them are only a matter of time, degree, and superficial detail, such as the choice of slogans by which the rulers delude their enslaved subjects.

at the time that women raise their salaries, is the tiem that more taxes are taken out now for socialism…

so whats the outcome? women are now working for the state, and asking the state for free things, which the state is all too glad to ratchet up the tax rate to generate a feedback loop.

  15. For many years the Nazi movement was seen as a political response of the German Mittelstand (lower middle class) of small businessmen, independent artisans, small shopkeepers and the self-employed, to the threats coming from big business and large retail stores, from the trade unions, the SPD and the KPD, and from increased government interference and taxes to pay for Weimar’s burgeoning welfare state. In many respects it was such a response — in its combination of anti-socialist and anti-big business rhetoric, and in its social support.

    sound familiar at all?
with a small amount of tweaking it could be todays news..

Behind Obama’s Victory: Women Open Up a Record Marriage Gap

Unmarried women voted for Obama by a massive 70 to 29 percent

53 percent of the national electorate this year was female, according to exit poll data. Women overall voted 56 to 43 percent for Obama; men voted 49 to 48 percent for him.

Women Voters Buoy Obama’s 2012 Hopes

    history repeats…
and those who refuse to learn from it (which also covers believe it, read it, deny it, etc)…
    are doomed to repeat it

President Obama today pivots his re-election pitch towards women voters, who backed his candidacy enthusiastically in 2008 and may prove more influential in 2012.

    in 2007…
    Sarkozy gets the women’s vote

    in 2012?
hard to tell, as you can find complete breakdowns for the other races, but not this one (at least not easily)

Hollande has sought to portray himself as a feminist, and recently won the backing of a petition of more than 150 feminists. He has said he will reintroduce a ministry of women’s rights and has promised an equal number of women and men in government if he wins

    lets paraphrase..
whoever steals the most from the people and gives a bit of it back to women, will win elections today… (boosted by additional promise to ignore responsibility for women)

and so, whomever wants to stop the stealing, shrink government, increase responsibility and freedom, will lose..

it all comes to the basic ideas of government

thanks to socialist communist feminism women believe the state is there to give them things, and entitle them, and so on and so on. its the political equivalent of leading them around with a fur coat…

Hollande has also promised to clamp down on equal pay for men and women, and vowed to enforce the law on political parties fielding equal numbers of men and women in parliamentary elections. Women MPs make up 18.5% of the French parliament, compared with 21% in the UK, 33% in Germany and 46% in Sweden.

    so in essence..

the socilaists decided to ignore the collapsing finances of the state, and bribe women with future goodies that the economy cant support.. (guess who they copied and originated this as normal?)

so what is the outcome of selfishness entitlement voting vs fiscally sane voting?

Hollande: My Win Is A Rejection Of Austerity

    so who is rejecting it?

the Socialists are hoping their success in the race for the Elysee Palace will presage a tighter control over the entire political landscape of France.

The party already runs most municipalities and the Upper House, called the Senate, so a majority in Parliament would constitute a challenge to the centre-right administrations in most of Europe’s major industrialised economies.

Women-led uprisings are mass protests that are initiated by women. They range from village food riots to the protests that initiated the Russian revolution.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_uprisings_led_by_women

they are only repeating the past history that we dont know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CAREFULLY note how in the first case, they created that which in the later case they could not control!!!!!!!!!! that is. the end was nothing like what they thought they were making… (and induced to)

    Marxists, such as V

ladimir Lenin, warned against food riots. But Karl Marx himself had recognised that ‘great social revolutions are impossible without the feminine ferment’ and, in 1917, it was Petrograd’s female workers who spread the idea of a general strike on 8 March, International Women’s Day.

On that day, hundreds of women threw stones and snowballs at factory windows and then dragged their fellow male workers on to the streets, where the rioting crowds had no problems creating their own leaders.

Women participated in the riots by, for instance, attacking police stations.

However, many troops refused to shoot protesting women, who were often with their children.

As Leon Trotsky later wrote, the women took hold of the soldiers’ rifles and ‘beseeched almost commanded: “put down your bayonets and join us”‘, and, within five days, the centuries-old Tsarist regime had collapsed.

[they left out the latvian rifle corps… ]

Scarcity and hunger made it very difficult for Russian workers to transform society themselves and women’s participation did not continue at the same level as in February/March 1917.

However, it was women’s food protests, in May 1918, that sparked the first major wave of workers’ unrest against the new Bolshevik authorities.

and what did they the rifle men and others create copying marx, moses, engels, and others? and how did it treat them? as promised? as something that was in service to its creators?

Then, later, during Joseph Stalin’s program of breakneck industrialisation and forced collectivisation, women were again at the forefront of the workers’ strikes and peasant protests that resisted this brutal policy. [17] Stalin’s regime was, however, able to contain all resistance through starvation and repression.

    see?
crisis gets them to act in such a way that they create that which they no longer can resist.

short sighted, and lack of resolve, fear of living without a protector (mate or state), etc…

chicken little politics was designed for the appeal to the fairer sex, not men… prior to women voting, crisis was not the common way to earn votes, nor was bribing the constituency.

the end of the wiki is quite telling..

    Women and austerity today

As austerity economics is imposed across much of the world, working class women are predicted to face the majority of the burden in the form of public sector job losses and welfare cuts. Whether this will lead to more women-led uprisings remains to be seen.

what do they know that you dont?

My fellow women: do not hate men! Hate that you do not have food to eat. Why don’t you have any food? It is because you don’t have any money to buy food. Why don’t you have any money? It is because the rich have stolen our property

and what does he tell women?

I have a good idea that will exempt you from relying on others while still finding food naturally. How? By practicing communism. Think of all the things in the world. They were either produced by nature or by individual labor. Why can rich people buy them but poor
people cannot? It is because the world trades with money. … If every single woman understands that nothing is more evil than money, and they all unite together to cooperate with men to utterly overthrown the rich and powerful and then abolish money, then absolutely nothing will be allowed for individuals to own privately.

welcome to early feminism before they figured out that the public didnt like them..

Everything from food to clothes and tools will be put in a place where people – men and women alike, as long as they perform a little labor – can take however much of whatever they want just like taking water from the ocean. This is called communism. At this time, not only will we be free of depending on others for food to eat, but also the food will all be good to eat. It will be possible to have good things to wear, good things to use, and good things to play with. Think about it: will this be a better future or not? I am not lying to you. If we only unite together, with this method [communism] we can naturally have a good future. There is no doubt about it. As we say colloquially, “the good times are coming.”
This is what I have to say today.

Good thing those people making this new way to live know how to game the public and especially women.. and its a good thing (for them) that they hide this stuff each and every time they do it… and so, each and every time, they make the same moves as if its the first few times they have played chess…

meanwhile, the people repeating it and hiding it, get better and better at it…

its interesting that withouot experience, one can win chess in only a few moves against an opponent with no experience..

wouldn’t one endeavor to always have such as an opponent? and not a smart, educated, historically knowing one?

so just leave out the mechanics of things.
the people in the new place will not believe that part, and so will repeat the same mistakes, and so one can become better and better at gaming – and those gamed will protect you!

  17. Brad, I dipped my toe into Modern monetary Theory. Hmm, the state can spend all the money it’s electorate decides to spend? The debts of a government are assets? The private sector exists to provide the state with the means to give the electorate/voters what they desire?

If this is so, how to account for the bankruptcy of Chile under Allende? How to explain the bankruptcy of Argentina in 2001? How to explain the plight of Zimbabwe? Etc., etc? Methinks MMT is bulldokey.

When money is lent out, the lenders, whoever they may be, will expect to repaid at some point in time. Sovereign credit ratings are based on the ability to repay. When itis apparent that the borrower can’t repay, then no one willl lend to them at any interest rate. What we are seeing in Europe is the borrowers (sovereign nations) trying to extend the day when the loans are finally due through money printing and mini-defaults. Somewhat equivalent to throwing fuel on a small fire to make it bigger.

What does a family do when they go too deep into debt? They cut back on their expenditures and work harder to increase their income. If they don’t do that, bankruptcy with all its ramifications is the only way out. Yes, governments have an advantage because they have printing presses, but eventually, too much printing and no one wants your money.

You said, “……..the fact is people do not take kindly to having their living standards assaulted no matter the reason.” True, that. But as one who has seen his pension disappear into the maws of the PBGC, I can tell you that it is better to take some smaller reductions early to avoid calamity than to take big reductions that follow the calamity. You know, the old adage: “Half a loaf is better than none.”

Promises by politicians are often overblown. In the case of programs like Social Security and Medicare here in the U.S., the pols over-promised. The programs are not actuarilly sound. By making some smaller reductions now we can avoid complete collapse in the future. The same is true of Europe. The sooner the voters recognize that, both here and in Europe, the better for resolving the crises.

  18. Wall street Journal.

Team Obama calculates that its road to victory is paved with the votes of women, so the American people are now subject to a coordinated effort to cast GOP opposition to expanding government power as an assault on the weaker sex.

[however their plays are never real, EVER. no one ever said they were. the problem is following invalid things, not believing them to be valid, as even soviet russia, most were not soviet!]

But few women view public policy as a battle between the sexes. Women whose husbands, brothers and sons are struggling to find jobs find no comfort in women’s comparatively low unemployment rate.

  19. I really think you guys should look into modern monetary theory.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice.

    In practice, there is.

  20. J.J:

Thank you for your thoughtful response.
I have only began to look into that. My understanding is there IS a limit to the amount of money a government can lend even under MMT but this limit is somehow (trying to remember the one essay I’ve read on this so far) tied into the unemployment rate, to where full employment is a good thing. I’ll admit to liking that idea, but until I’ve read a fuller treatment and some critiques I’m not going to understand it enough to endorse it one way or another. I just though it would be an interesting thing to mention it and see if anyone here had heard of it.

Far as the current crisis goes NOT ONE MAJOR POWER IN THE WORLD (and I include the US and I just wanted to emphasize) is going to be able to pay its outstanding debts in full. That means some of the creditors are going to have to take haircuts – and its the perception that this is not happening but instead that the common people are the only ones expected to sacrifice – that is driving the politics of Europe, and to an extent the US.

  21. and its the perception that this is not happening but instead that the common people are the only ones expected to sacrifice

The problem is that the creditors taking haircuts are mostly managing other people’s money, so the common people are going to get reamed twice.

Leftists generally and Obama in particular fail to grasp this essential fact. They think that they’re sticking it to the insurance companies, banks, and hedge funds, but they’re not.

In the GM bailout that hosed GM’s creditors, leftists thought that they were sticking it to the hedge funds, apparently in the charmingly childlike belief that hedge funds were investing their own money. Little did they realize that hedge funds manage money from their limited partners, who are commonly pension funds and university endowments. The biggest single loser in the GM fiasco, “sticking it to the man?” Not the hedge funds – it was the Michigan state teachers’ union pension fund.

    You have to laugh.

  22. “French Stupidity”, there’s a repetition of terms if ever there was one.
