Hostage rescue: another reason to celebrate this Fourth
Hearing the wonderful news of the rescue of the Colombian hostages, I immediately thought of Entebbe. I guess I’m not the only one.
And, since the Entebbe resue occurred on July 4, 1976 and concerns liberty, it’s a fitting event to ponder this Fourth of July.
[ADDENDUM: One of the underhyped successes of the Bush administration seems to have been against FARC, which wasn’t doing so well even before the hostage rescue. Bush and the US have been supporting the battle against FARC for quite some time.]
Will the inevitable protestors and trolls demand the return of the hostages to FARC?

Colombian President Alvaro Uribe should soften his tone when dealing with the Marxist FARC guerrillas, freed hostage Ingrid Betancourt said on Monday, urging him to break with the language of “hatred”.
That’s very un-neocon. Un- Churchhill like.
Didn’t she learn anything during her captivity?
“I think the time has come to change the language of radicalism, extremism and hatred, the very strong words that cause deep hurt to a human being,” she said, adding that tolerance and respect were needed.
Tolerance and respect for terrorists? Well, she can’t be referring to the ones who rescued her, so it must be FARC terrorists she’s referring to.
“There comes a time when one has to agree to talk to the people you hate,” she said.
Well, she’s certainly deluded now.
