Notice anything new at The New Neo?
[BUMPED UP—scroll down for new posts.]
Like maybe, a new neo?
Photo, that is.
That’s just one of the new photos I took. I’ve had some fun with this, including some rather wild ones (wild by my standards, that is).
I’ve also found that when you adjust the lighting a bit and shrink the photos way down like that in order to fit on the sidebar, it hides a multitude of sins. The apple hides most of the rest.
I may mix it up and put different photos on the blog now and then, and you can let me know which ones you like best and maybe I’ll keep the most popular one as the main one.
Or maybe not. I’ll keep you guessing.
I’d be tempted beyond resisting to change the photo from time to time and see who notices. I’m the sort that notices something different and then immediately wonders how long ago it changed so when the tables are turned I’m inclined to say, ‘Three weeks, glad you noticed,’ even when it’s just been a day.
I like it – I had to go back to LI to compare the photo with your previous one. The green apple sure pops out with the dark background.
However, your hand and the apple look large in relation to your face, but I am sure it is a factor of the camera angle and the cropping. What’s funny is that I immediately thought of “tiny hands” reference to President Trump and the word “huuuge” also came to mind.
I look forward to seeing the different pictures – will you include one with a bite out of the apple?
hope it doesn’t come across as an insult, your right eye resembles Elizabeth Taylor’s.
Beautiful and sexy. What can I say? I’m a fan!
Liz:
My hands actually are very tiny. So tiny I have trouble wearing adult-sized gloves, even in “small,” and often go to the children’s department for my gloves.
However, I also had noticed the fact that my hand in the new photos (all of them, the keepers and the outtakes as well) looks much larger than in the old one. I believe it is because it is taken from closer up (the lighting was such that if I was far away the picture was WAY blurry) and also the lens of the camera distorts it differently than the old camera. I’m not sure which is more correct in terms of what my hand really looks like next to my face. Also, the apple in the new photo really IS bigger not just in the photo but as an apple.
Dave, Lurch:
Thanks.
I’m old-fashioned enough to really, really like compliments.
Elegant, mysterious, and yet somehow alluring beyond mere applesauce.
vanderleun:
And yet what could be more alluring than applesauce?
What would you look like with straight hair and a side part? (You know, the jaw line length, Grosse Pointe hair style)
Or is your hair naturally curly, still?
Eyes are still good. Evidence you are not morally dissipated … haha
I don’t know, can I adapt to a different hair color? 🙂
I like the new picture, lots of elegance and great eye, we can assume the mystery eye is just as beautiful and you look very much like that wonderful writer of thoughtful conservative comments Jean Kaufman.
Nice, but I would rather see both your eyes and not have your hair so lost in the black background.
Shouldn’t that be a red apple to support your conservative ties?
I did notice the new picture but I’m not sure when. It’s very nice and mysterious enough to make me wonder what the eyes would look like.
Richard:
Both my eyes were not visible in the old photo, either.
I don’t like the way my hair is lost either. But I like the drama of the dark and the bright, so the black background stays for now. I don’t have access to a light background anymore with decent lighting. I do have some photos that are lighter but they are so light the photo doesn’t “pop.” It’s a tradeoff, I guess. I could keep going trying to find a better one, but I’ve already spent a TON of time on the endeavor.
Great picture.
“I may mix it up and put different photos on the blog now and then”
Yes. Do that!
DNW:
Very naturally curly.
See this (the video is no longer working, but the rest of the post is fine) and this.
The picture is fine Neo. You don’t have to change a thing.
We’re all just “funnin’ “
Still looks like Elaine Benes to me.
Like maybe, a new neo?
I’d say that neo is the same one. But it’s definitely a new apple ^_^
Very nice pic but the apple should be red, not green. A green apple just follows Magritte whilst a red apple changes that and makes the shift to a female as well. A red apple is a subtle hint toward a red lipstick. Brunette + red lipstick = smart, sophisticated and eye-catching look.
Really liked your old photo as it had become so familiar and just right to me when I read your blog. And, much as I think I would enjoy meeting you in person, it doesn’t bother me how current your photo is. But do whatever you need to do!
I like the hair, the eye, the apple. The contrasting dark background is great.
I like the updated photo a lot, Neo!
Being up there myself, I can relate to the new picture. You still look good.
Eowyn:
I’m very fond of the old photo, too, and I know it has become identified with me and with the blog, almost like a trademark.
To you it was familiar. To me, it became more and more unfamiliar as it came to look less and less like me. When I still dyed my hair dark brown I could pretend there wasn’t all that much difference. But with the silver all grown in now, I could pretend no longer and the discrepancy came to bother me more and more.
Thus the change.
Looks good to me! Although there is the Magritte reference, yours is somehow also Eve contemplating the Apple.
Neo,
Not sure if it’s just me but when I go to the new site on my ipad the most recent post I see is your Rick Gates post from yesterday. Tried refreshing but couldn’t get the newer posts to show up. Remember this being an issue a while back but it had seemed to stop in recent times. When I checked on my laptop seems as though I see everything up to date.
This is an apple…
Naturally curly hair is a distinct advantage in a woman’s life. Let us never forget the famous Freida Rich of Peanuts:
“Frieda made her debut on March 6, 1961, when Linus introduced her to Charlie Brown. She was the eleventh permanent character to join the cast, and the first since Sally was born in 1959. She was initially presented, in both the advance press release and the first few strips, as Linus’ schoolmate.[2] She sat behind him in class, and although he considered her a friend, he also confessed that because she was such a chatterbox, he hadn’t heard a word their teacher said the whole semester.[3] Her most prominent feature is her “naturally” curly hair, which she manages to work into every conversation, to the dismay of those around her. This self-love of her hair leads people to believe that she is rather vain. In turn, Frieda herself believes that the other girls are jealous of her hair (and often becomes disappointed or depressed when the other girls tell her that they’re not jealous of her hair), and also that “people expect more of her” because she has it.[4][5] Nevertheless, enough people in the neighborhood like her that she got thirty valentines one year.[6] Journalist Christopher Caldwell described her as, “A fetching, kind and charming girl, who throws her deeper goodness away because she wants to be admired for such superficialities as ‘being a good conversationalist.” [7] She admitted that she used to be an avid reader until she started getting too busy.”
Ms. Neo² maybe you should try a tomato. You’re still in that category methinks.
Regarding your avatar an image shot close up with a wide angle lens will exaggerate the relative sizes of objects whereas a longer lens setting with the camera farther back will minimize this tendency. You might need a helper to get the proportions you think look natural.
My hair was once jet black. Now, it’s salt ‘n’ pepper, much more salt than pepper these-a-days. We-all (I do believe I can speak for all of us, the rest don’t count) respect and admire you just as you are, behind the green apple, regardless of the photo. (I will admit to being curious enough to be interested in more photos.)
neo, you ROCK! And given the way you selflessly toil for our education and edification, I can go further: neo, you ROCK AROUND THE CLOCK.
Very elegant and intriguing photo! Long time reader, first time poster. Love the insights.
Boss, I was going to suggest a photo array & let us vote…say for $1/vote as a fundraiser for your favourite charity.
PS…is your hair blue streaked?
Quite daring if so! 😉
Elegant.
John Guilfoyle:
No, not blue-streaked. Although it does look a bit that way in the photo. I adjusted the color of the whole photo a bit because the original didn’t show up that well online. Maybe that’s what made the hair look bluer.
Mysterious and alluring…
Cappy et al:
Gotta keep that air of mystery going. If the apple falls, all is lost.
Everybody really IS a victim, of many various things from parents, family & society, as well as reality.
Who doesn’t want to fly? I want to — but I can’t. Because I’m a VICTIM of gravity, of reality (so far).
Being a victim is a perfect excuse to be lazy & resentful. And usually rage-fulled, and ungrateful and unhappy. Not leading towards a better world.
Adults are all victims, too — but must act like responsible adults if we are going to maintain civilization. Unlike socialist Venezuela.
In it you look young and yet mature.
Well, I like this photo and you’re pretty cute to boot
Yes, that bright green really pops out. Brighter, greener, I thought it might ripen over time and become a nice red apple. Perhaps it will.
Elaine from Seinfeld is someone I would imagine neo to look like judging from the little of her face and hair that we could see in the old picture.
Regardless of which pic you choose, it should be at the top,not the bottom of the page. It takes many downward scrolls on a tablet to even notice there is a picture.
Love the new look! Both the website and the photo.
I just noticed the Save checkbox so I’ll refrain from suggesting your chat with your developer about not saving info.
You can tell him that a retired, many decade experienced computer geek still makes dumb user interface mistakes like that.
It seems the older I get I STILL default to “it’s that other programmers’ fault” mode to buy more project time :-}
Batemjo:
The photo is at the top on desktops, laptops, and tablets. At least, it should display that way. On phones, however, all “responsive” themes like this one push what is ordinarily the sidebar down to the bottom, to make the text easier to read without adjustment..
Ah! The new picture allows you to see more of us. I love it!
I’d say you should have never worried about up dating your photo.
You have leeway on the lighting in the future, but this is terrific.
It’s a nice photo, nothing to worry about, there.
My only qualm is that there’s something about it (the lighting? the size/position relationship of the hand and the apple to your face, perhaps?) which is less immediately evocative of the original Magritte.
The new look is great in every respect; a good move by you.

She’s got ’em all…
