I guess… — 6 Comments

  1. Sorry for being so catty, but this video was a real dog. 🙂
All puns aside, even a dog lover such as myself has to admit that there was some feline intelligence illustrated here.

  2. If only the cat had opposable thumbs or sticky pads. Lot’s of room for evolutionary improvement there.

  3. My cat MacTavish could have taught them the technique. Leap from the floor to the knob, wrapping both front paws around the knob and twisting vehemently, causing the knob to turn, in the open direction while your back paw on the wall side simultaneously pushes off with a boost, causing the door to open wide. All one fluid movement, all grace, all for liberty.

Everything covered in fur escapes happily, knowing that one of us human-types would retrieve said furry beasts with the lure of an open can of tuna or Tender Vittles or Chicken Temptations.

By the way, the reaction of the cat to the balloon going by in another video is absolutely priceless: A look of pure, undiluted, sudden intelligent awareness. (Best Reaction Ever, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBQ-IzyhiWs)

  4. Classic feline/human psychology. Having finally achieved his goal, the cat is suddenly ambivalent, pausing for almost 20 seconds trying to decide if he actually wants to go out the door.

The dog has second thoughts too, poking his head back in at the very end of the clip.

  5. Doorknobs have never been a barrier to the two Maine Coon cats that I’ve had. Not only are they big, they’re smart, and they figure stuff out. I’m glad they don’t have opposable thumbs.

  6. Waltj, Luckily for you, Maine Coons are kind and gentle cats. Not very breed would let you think you’re the boss (I’m with a bengal cat rescue).
