RIP Patrick Stewart — 7 Comments

  1. A great serious actor who could also do comedy. He had a real sense of humor, including about himself.

  2. I’ve never heard of anyone getting both those kinds of dementia. I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy.

  3. Somewhere during “Star Trek: Next Generation” I realized Patrick Stewart was the same guy I had seen a bunch of times before. He was even in David Lynch’s “Dune” (1984).

With Stewart I had the sense of being in the presence of a Great Actor without the fuss and bother.

  4. Marica:

It is at least possible he didn’t have both kinds. Lewy Body dementia is often mistaken for other problems, and it can cause dementia on its own.

  5. Superb actor and in past years was regularly seen in the crowd at Huddersfield Town games. He will be greatly missed.

  6. Lewy Body Dementia, as its name implies, presupposes a brain biopsy for confirmation unless the constellation of symptoms and signs suffices. It does not cause “dementia on its own”. That’s why it is LB dementia!

  7. Cicero:

Of course it causes dementia on its own. That’s why the word “dementia ” is in its name. It’s a different type of dementia than Alzheimer’s. It involves intermittent hallucinations and delusions but also other cognitive problems. It is often confused with Parkinson’s, which ALSO can cause dementia and hallucinations “on its own” as well as other cognitive problems.

Stewart died Wednesday. The article I quoted was published Thursday. Today is Friday. No mention of any autopsy having been done and I very much doubt one will be done.
