More on the Manchester synagogue killings — 18 Comments

  1. The perp was thought to be wearing a suicide vest (although it turned out to be a dud) and was trying to enter the synagogue:

If that vest had been real, and he had entered the synagogue, it would have been a blessing to have killed him before he did so even if an innocent also died, and there were only seconds to decide what to do.

  2. I suppose the shooting of the Jewish victims is reasonably related to immobilizing the man wearing what looked like a suicide vest.

If Britain were at all serious about putting people in jail for hurting the feelings of other people, they’d be arresting these ghoulish mobs celebrating the Manchester murders en masse. They won’t do that, because these laws only run one way.

  3. According to a link I added in an addendum, the two men shot by police were inside the synagogue, holding the door closed. I guess the police couldn’t even see them, were shooting at the perp in front of the door, and missed him with some of their shots.

And now I see that some people are saying that the bullet that killed the perp may have gone through him and the door and also hit one of the men behind the door.

The 5.56mm [that police used] is a high velocity weapon that can put a round through a half inch steel plate at 100m.

  4. That Jihad Al Shamie’s surgeon dad, Faraj Al Shamie is not in prison for his vile posts is proof positive that the UK’s injustice system is a two tiered one. Though hate speech laws are an anathema, the enabling individuals; the members of parliament and judges and police implementing this vile system should be in prison and the likes of Faraj Al Shamie deported.

  5. I can’t find it now, but I saw a news item earlier, possibly a screenshot from X, saying something like “Police have not identified a motive for Mr. Jihad.”

It would be similarly difficult to determine the nationality of Captain America.

  6. Yes, I saw the addendum; seems like just an unfortunate thing. No one to blame — except the perp.

  7. They did not pay attention to Churchill. Therefore they will pay:

    If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed;
if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may
come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.

  8. The 5.56 ammo described is not the only type. Ball ammo–lead slug with a copper coating–will penetrate far less hard matter than will some version of armor piercing, which would be hardened steel.
And that’s on the military side. I’ve heard that ammo for cops is available which will penetrate even less than described above, for obvious reasons. For hunting purposes, a hollow point is available, or a “soft tip”. Far less penetrating power, which is good since the energy stays in the original target instead of heading down range.
Anyway, likek to know what kind of ammo the cops were using.

  9. Another subject. Muslims remain a Designated Victim Group. Thus, they can do no wrong. Not even screwing up somebody’s funeral. Gonna be somebody else’s fault.

  10. Over penetration in urban environments is a concern I have long had with the increase in 5.56 mm weapons. For home defense in neighborhoods I think that a shotgun loaded with duck hunting rounds – 18 caliber steel pellets – would be less likely to penetrate your neighbors house.

  11. If English “coppers” are using 5.56 NATO rounds capable of piercing steel plate at pretty much any distance for civilian policing, they are guilty of ballistic ignorance. Military “green tip” (officially designated “M855”) rounds are not classified as “armor piercing,” but they have a steel, not lead core with the potential to penetrate soft body armor and thin steel, like that used in some old-style military helmets. Such rounds are often banned from civilian ranges due to the damage they inflict on steel targets and assorted range equipment. They are also not recommended for home defense specifically because of their tendency to overpenetrate. However, there are varieties of 5.56 ammunition that are quite appropriate for home defense, designated “M193,” which has a lead core and is designed to fragment on impact. Had the coppers used such ammunition, it is highly unlikely they would have had a shoot-through. One would think that the ballisticians for the police would know this and choose accordingly. One would think. And before you ask why I might know this, I learned it before I had my tragic boating accident in which all my firearms were lost in the depths of some lake the name and location of which I simply cannot remember.

  12. Islamic historian Raymond Ibrahim explains the three doctrines in Islam that make it universally toxic to peace with non-Muslims.

    — the Koranic loyalty (of “love”) versus hate (or enmity) doctrine.
    — ergo, Jihad against the Kafir or unBeliever.
—if not Jihad, then Dhimmitude. Kafirs forced to pay
extortion for “peace” by The Submitters (the definition of “Islam).

Ibrahim explains how the terror attack on Jews in Manchester are justified by Muslims, as the three doctrines above are applied https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RC_Byq_GRdw

I sympathize with your accident. It’s common in Michigan, too. It’s why we have a Rifle River and a Gun Lake.
In 5.56 and other small arms ammo–not including specific hunting ammo–there is what might be called a spectrum of penetration capaility.
As a general rule, cops are looking at the guy they’re shooting at. So penetration is not necessary and is disadvantageous. Some version of hollow point, soft tip, various up to home made “dum dum” rounds are available and are most appropriate.
If cops need to shoot through something–building, cars, heavy timber, so forth–it’s generally a static situation and they have time to send somebody to the car for the armor-piercing stuff. Or wait for the SWAT guys.
Generally, the least-penetrating rounds are almost always the best for short-range anti-personnel use. They impact with most damage and energy, doing the most damage, and they penetrate other matter such as buildings and doors to the least extent. Oe might say using anything else for beat cops is inexcusable.

    —–
Nope. Neither standard M855 or the newer M855A1 will penetrate a half inch steel plate. The AP round (M995) will, of course, but why the hell would cops load that in this situation?

Note that these tests were run at 25 yards.
That said, it’s highly probable that an M855 would go through a person and the door and well into, if not through a second person.
In the US, most PDs using an AR or M16/M4 will load .223 civilian hunting ammo which has less penetration and more expansion than military ammo which might not have penetrated the door, but it’s not commonly available there. “Probably” being the operative word in both instances. People who test ammo for a living have said it – the only thing consistent about terminal ballistics is inconsistency.

  15. A follow-up post to my citation of Raymond Ibrahim (not far above) is of interest here. He’s a Coptic Christian whose family came to the US from Egypt, over 90% Arabic speaking and Muslim.

Ibrahim also was an undergraduate student of Victor Davis Hanson at Fresno State University in California. Study of the Classic’s and the Ancient history naturally led to his appreciation of Medieval history. He says that Hanson remains a friend and fellow scholar who contributes Forewords, for instance, to his books.

  16. Steve (retired/recovering lawyer) on October 4, 2025 at 7:10 am:
That lake you can’t recall is named Lost Gun Lake, and it is usually found about 3 lakes further on than the lake nearest to you.

And sometimes when lead ammo is lost overboard, it eventually decays and releases bubbles that pop when they reach the surface, and make a distinctive plumbum plumbum plumbum sound. But if you wear hearing aids like me, it just might sound like dum dum dum dum.

and now I see that Richard A went to the same geography class that I did.
