  1. Averages World Wide don’t mean anything. By Country, then maybe.
OK, I am average in some WW measures. So what

  2. IDF:

The IDF and ISA conducted a precise strike targeting the senior leadership of the Hamas terrorist organization.

For years, these members of the Hamas leadership have led the terrorist organization’s operations, are directly responsible for the brutal October 7 massacre, and have been orchestrating and managing the war against the State of Israel.

Prior to the strike, measures were taken in order to mitigate harm to civilians, including the use of precise munitions and additional intelligence.

The IDF and ISA will continue to operate with determination in order to defeat the Hamas terrorist organization responsible for the October 7 massacre.

    This strike was in Qatar.

Mike Doran: “The Israeli Air Force strikes Hamas leaders in Qatar. Would Israel take this action without a green light from Trump? Very unlikely.”

Brief video clips of the scene at link.

So in line with the open thread video, we might say the average Hamas senior leader is dead.

  3. According to i24TV Barry, the Hamasian leadership in Turkey flew to Qatar for the meeting, so they went boom too. Still, Israel ain’t going to war in Turkey. A quiet covert assassination, maybe, but wouldn’t expect anything splashy.

  4. Those five or six villains were worth over $10 billion.
Israel should have taken out Yasser Arafat no later than 1972 (after the Munich Olympics massacre at the latest).

  5. Israel has no choice but to find and kill Hamas leaders wherever they reside.

In the eyes of the “world community” there is absolutely nothing that Israel can do that will win their approval, and anything Israel does is condemned, so Israel just needs to get on with it and finish off the Palestinian version of the Einsatzgruppen.

Unfortunately the MSM world wide is pro-Hamas and anti-Semitic (just like the democrat party here in the USA) and they readily broadcast any and all lies and distortions generated by Hamas.
Israel needs to do a better job counter-acting these lies.
    How would Israel do this?
I don’t know, given the unanimous anti-Israel, anti-Semitic stance of the MSM in Europe and the USA.

  6. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) has issued their biggest negative revision in its history. For the period of April 2024 through March 2025 (so almost entirely in the Biden era), they have removed over 911k “jobs added” to payrolls. Needless to say there’s been a lot of questioning and criticism of the supposed accuracy of the BLS’s estimates over the past few years. In particular during the Biden era they would often first report somewhat rosey employment numbers only to later revise them downward. Of course the media would vociferously report the initial numbers and ignore or downplay the downward revisions.

  7. There’s equivocation in the word “average” which is doing the heavy lifting in today’s clickbait thumbnail.

“Average” can mean a specific calculation of central tendency of a set of numbers, which is what the algorithm that generate the images does. But most people use the word in at least two other, and different ways: “typical” and “acceptable standard”.

The calculated average is often something that does not even exist in the set it describes, such as the old 2.3 or whatever it was children of the “average” American family fifty years ago. The average prize value of a $1 scratch ticket is between $0 and $1 but is not itself the value of a prize that can won. It would be misleading to equivocate and say that a family of 2.3 children should be a “typical” family or a prize valued at $0.63 should be the “typical” prize and since these don’t exist, there is something wrong with the calculated average.

Even when the average value exists it’s frequently not “typical”. Suppose five men are in a room, one of them is 6′ 4″, three of them are 5′ 8″, and one of them is 5′ 10″. The 5′ 10″ man is of the average height of the five, but most men in the room are 5′ 8″.

As for the “acceptable standard” meaning of “average” that’s a decision, it’s not a description. Sometimes it’s a reasonable decision, but it’s a variety of “grading on the curve” which is not always reasonable or desirable.

  8. @Nonapod:Needless to say there’s been a lot of questioning and criticism of the supposed accuracy of the BLS’s estimates over the past few years.

If their estimates were accurate, they should overshoot by about as much as they undershoot. I haven’t yet found a source that actually tries to explain the overestimates as opposed to explaining them away.

  9. So in line with the open thread video, we might say the average Hamas senior leader is dead.

Love it, but I just missed getting orange juice up my nose.

  10. Hmm.
True…unlikely…alas…but MAYBE Israel’ll decide to pull off an “Evin Prison”-style operation in good ole’ Erdogan-Reich so as to free a significant number of those myriads of political prisoners he’s incarcerated over the years….

  11. Speaking of the Labor Dept, Trump’s proposed cuts for FY 2026: $4.5 billion (33%). Total Staff Reduction: Approximately 4,000 employees, reducing the workforce from 14,855 to about 10,879.

Couldn’t’ve happened to a nicer agency. Likewise, others among the fellowship of DC federal clock-watching maggots. I can’t think of a better start to making homes more affordable.

  12. A number of times I have been mistaken for so-and-so. This has happened from young adulthood onward. One of the more notable misses happened in my hometown, where I was twice mistaken for a guy several years younger than me. We both were called by our middle names—the same name—so it took a while to sort it out. Also ironic when I had a passing acquaintance with one of the guys who had mistaken me. The guy who looked like me had an older brother who had his 15 minutes of fame in pop music.

My guess is that I have an “average” looking face of Americans before 1850,as my ancestral makeup is a mixture of the British Isles and Northern Europe.

Hamas honchos getting knocked off in Qatar reminds of a hit song from years ago: Jamás. (Tr: “never” in English.) Camilo Sesto: Jamás Let’s make Hamas turn into Jamás.

  13. In these astonishingly crazy times, a worthy, erudite and useful blueprint by Daniel J. Mahoney on how to climb back into some kind of societal sanity:

“Restoring the Mind of the Republic”—

To be compared and contrasted with this unsympathetic, if symptomatic, character…who just happens to be the president of Princeton University….

  14. Continued…

The following takedown of Tucker Carlson, and the odiousness that he has decided to—currently—stand for and widely disseminate, provides additional dismal evidence of the dire need to examine and implement Mahoney’s hopeful suggestions (see previous comment).

  15. You know the public backlash has had to be fierce for this to happen.

The leadership at Cracker Barrel has announced the cancellation of their plans to remodel their restaurants.*

Hopefully they will now concentrate on what they should have been concentrating on, and that is improving the quality of their food, and making it both more fresh–not frozen, and actually cooked from scratch, Southern style.

  17. bretton woods could only hold out for a while, the cost of the Great War, on Europe necessitated decolonization, from India and the other colonies, same with Europe’s other territories, the rise of the welfare state, and the mass immigration cannot coexist for long, partitions like India for instance, ignited old hatreds

DeGaulle surrender after Algeria, and his successors like D’Staing empowered the Arab principates, like Husseins Iraq, and
led to the fall of the Shah,,
