Fatal shooting of Catholic school children at Minneapolis church — 35 Comments

  1. Going out on a limb here:
    Mentally ill and mommy issues.

    Naturally, we all gotta blame mom for not raising him right , and ignore social media influences.

  2. My first two thoughts were someone named Mohamed or a crazy person. The second one seems to be the case. I don’t have statistics, but it looks like the incidence of violence from “transgenders” far exceeds their proportion of the population.

    RIP to these children, and may their schoolmates survive and heal.

  3. Isn’t this the second trans shooter? The first was the woman identifying as a man in Tenn or KY…I can’t recall, though the police were very late in releasing her manifesto.

    Just another data point for me that these people are mentally ill and should not be accommodated.

  4. I have a lot of personal history associated with that church. My dad met my mother through that church circa 1948. It was home parish to both my sets of grandparents. I ushered my aunt’s wedding there in 1974. A couple of my brothers were married there. My eldest brother gave his first mass there in 1981. (He later left the priesthood and got married. I myself am now non-denominational, no longer Catholic.) My wife and I now live ten minutes from there. These shootings are always shocking. This one feels different because of how well I know the place.

  5. “They can see no reasons ’cause there are no reasons”
    I Don’t Like Mondays by the Boomtown Rats about a shooting in 1979, I believe. I always think of the song every time a shooting like this happens. God take those children’s souls.

  6. And of course Chuck S. stepped in it big time, calling for gun control. As have other Dems. Spouting before they knew the murder is trans. That really doesn’t fit the Dems, but it all too often common.

  7. In addition, Westman’s mother was an employee at the school the children attended.
    ==
    She apparently left the school’s employ in 2021.

  8. in a less sophisticated age, you would call someone who would target children would be demon possessed, but sophistication is in the eye of the beholder,

    yes the labour party in the uk and australia used events like this in dunblane and port arthur to disarm the people

  9. This guy wanted to kill a lot of people. The exponential quality of innocence when you have children at Mass probably added to the vibe during the planning process.
    Reports are he brought a couple of 2×4 to keep a door closed in case of escape attempts. Knew the best time.
    Not a whim.
    So…with that kind of motivation, guns are too much trouble. Cost money, do paperwork, so forth. Cheaper to get three two-liter Pepsi bottles full of gas with cherry bombs taped to them.
    The Boston marathon bombers picked fireworks apart and used the explosive in pressure cookers.
    Hell, if he’d gone in with a hatchet, he could have done the same or worse.

    It’s not the guns.

  10. The family once lived in a house in Eagan, Mn. It was sold in May 2021, apparently coincident with his mother’s retirement from the school (at which point she was just shy of 63). The house is two-story ‘townhome’, built in 2001, with a quantum of interior space (2,600 sq ft) that is slightly above average for an owner-occupied house. I’ll wager the family was not hurting financially. Mrs. Westman has her own taste in decor; it’s not mine.

    It would appear his mother worked at the school for about five years. His father appears to be an IT maven employed by the same commercial company for 29 years now.
    ==
    The petition to change his name was filed when he was 17. He evidently had his mother’s express consent.

  11. I wonder how the chemicals being given to these young trans individuals is affecting their behavior. If it’s not being studied it should be.

  12. I also wonder if some of the incredibly violent video games some of these young men are addicted to is pushing some of them to want to act out in real life.

  13. Here’s Westman’s four-page hand-written apparent suicide note to his family and friends. It’s surprisingly articulate and even well-meaning. Apparently, Westman believed he had developed lung cancer from vaping, was deeply, deeply depressed and angry about America, and had been contemplating suicide for a long time:

    Unexplained in the note, however, is why Westman felt compelled to murder children on the way out. He just kept referring to a “final act” that he had fixated on.

    He does mention that he leaves upon a large number of journals and warns others to read at their own risk.

  14. I heard the killer had 6 siblings. Or maybe there were 6 children total, including him.
    Still, my point is: Many, if not most, parents cannot give sufficient attention to each child,in “large” families.
    Numbers are subjective of course, especially where neglect comes in.

  15. By definition, those who honestly ‘identify’ as trans are suffering from a conflict between their body’s biological reality and their subjective perception of themselves. This is clearly a mental health issue. People suffering from mental health issues should not have easy access to firearms. In all likelihood, his targeting of children in a church indicates a hatred of God for ‘making him this way’. Since I think that reincarnation is likely, clearly he had some karma to work through in this life. If so, he just made his next incarnation much harder. Of course, a well deserved eternal damnation is another possibility.

  16. Marlene, you are quite wrong about large families’ children in America. Multigravida {=4 or more pregnancies} was entirely common until the tide turned in the past 100 years. The dominant workforce in a predominantly agrarian society had kids working, and the more kids, the better. I am aware of a family with a mother who bore 14 children, all those kids naturally raised each other.

  17. “Numbers are subjective of course” is a bizarre claim.
    As to the “trans” class of the shooter, it is our loss of mores that is at fault with fatherles kids being the result. Leftists are cheering.

  18. Still, my point is: Many, if not most, parents cannot give sufficient attention to each child,in “large” families.
    ==
    My mother would have explained to you that the benefits of parental attention are subject to diminishing returns.
    ==
    In larger families, the dynamic between the children grows increasingly consequential. They teach and care for each other.
    ==
    I knew a family with ten children. The paternal grandfather had produced four children, of whom one had died in childhood. Two of his children had families of conventional size and the one had ten kids. He enjoyed visiting the family with ten. “Your ten are quieter than his two”. There wasn’t one kid in that family of ten who was unappealing.

  19. Surprisingly, NPR covered the shooter’s name change on the first day quite explicitly, and noted the name “Robin” was adopted because it better reflected “Robert’s” self-image. Not explicitly a mention of transsexuality, but a strong hint.

    Today, the politburo must have reasserted its control: the shooter was named as Robin, but referenced as “he”, with no mention of any recent change, and a vague allusion to “disturbing messages” left behind!

    As further exposition of NPR’s self-appointed role, I think it worth mentioning NPR’s coverage of Ukraine. Simplistically, one would expect them to emphasize Ukrainian successes, but this almost never occurs, and not because successes are rare – Ukraine is dealing some severely damaging blows to the Russian military-industrial infrastructure.

    More telling is that the recent Russian offensive received lots of coverage on NPR! As soon as I saw a map of the operational salient, my first thought was “It’s a trap!” Indeed it was – and as the Ukrainians proceeded to “eliminate” hundreds of Russians, it promptly dropped from NPR coverage!

    So the obvious conclusion is that NPR sees itself not as a source of public information, but as a shaper of public opinion… the desired opinion being the Ukraine is losing and must be rescued, even if to report so is to seemingly report against the interest of the “good guys”!

  20. Apparently exposure to marijuana helped further his delusion

    Btw where is the autopsy on the blackstone shooter

  21. From the comments so far, what kind of witch’s brew do we possibly have?

    Transgender, with all of the mental issues that involves.

    And that comes with a whole bunch of chemical interventions.

    Add to this, likely exposure to violent video games.

    How about all sorts of examples, bad ideas, images, and advice floating around on the Internet.

    Then, to top things off, there is marijuana use.

  22. His diary/manifesto suggests that he thought it had been a mistake to get caught up in the trans movement, and there’s no indication so far that he had hormone treatments or surgery. Seems to be your garden-variety eelbrain who latched onto a lot of progressive hot points, like “6 million wasn’t enough” and “Kill Donald Trump” and the usual “strike a blow against fascism” vagueness.

    I’m inclined to believe that the political aspect is fairly random and that the mental illness is primary. On the other hand, we don’t see a lot of fascist white supremacist youngsters losing the plot in some mall or school. When it comes to minds lost in furious hateful chaos, you’d think more would be latching onto that wing, too. Maybe it’s just that the progressive eel-brain industry gets a lot more press, it seems, than the neo-Nazis, beyond certain dark corners of the internet.

  23. I’m reminded of the Screwtape Letters discussion of a radical clergyman. Screwtape notes that we would be hard-pressed to reconcile some of the wild swings in political or social theory emanating from his pulpit from week to week, until we realize that the defining impulse is a seething hatred and a desire to adopt whatever attitude will most mortify and grieve his parents and their set.

  24. Humans can end up believing bizarre things and backing it up with violence. It’s not always explained by upbringing, mental health or drugs.

    Again, my surfer buddy from a beautiful white Christian family. His father was the local high school principal. My friend was always respectful and decent. He made Eagle Scout. He volunteered for the Army and came out a Green Beret. I’m sure he drank some and got stoned on occasion, but I never noticed anything unusual.

    Yet, somehow he became a white supremacist and one of the most powerful paramilitary Klan members in the 80s. He spent ten years in prison for conspiring to blow up the SPLC headquarters with a rocket launcher.

    His close associate, Glenn Miller, was the guy responsible for the 2014 shootings at a Jewish retirement community in which three were killed.

  25. Looking out over the landscape, we live today in a far more toxic stew of a multiplicity of ideas, “entertainments,” examples, trends, and psychoactive and other chemicals, than we did in earlier generations, and, meanwhile, the hold of Christianity and its moral imperatives grows ever weaker.

    No wonder killings like this are increasingly common.
