A warm welcome back to Abrego Garcia
The left’s latest hero-victim, Kilmar Abrego Garcia, is apparently on his way back to the good old USA. This leftist victory may be Pyrrhic, however:
Abrego Garcia is headed home, but with a twist: He’ll be charged with participating in a conspiracy to human traffic illegal immigrants from Texas to the rest of the country. …
The indictment was filed under seal last month, so this wasn’t an overnight decision. Attorney General Pam Bondi had originally said Abrego Garcia “is not coming back” to the United States, but it appears the body cam footage of him allegedly trafficking illegal immigrants in Tennessee changed the calculus. This also gives the administration an out regarding the legal challenges surrounding Abrego Garcia’s deportation. They no longer have to fight that battle if they go ahead and charge him with serious crimes, keeping him detained in the process.
For further context, some weeks before this news, Abrego Garcia’s business partner, who is in jail on other charges, was given limited immunity for his cooperation.
Why did the left choose Abrego Garcia as their latest poster child? I believe that initially they were unaware of all the details of his criminal history, and once they were in that hole they had to dig deeper. But that sort of thing has never stopped them from being successful with their propaganda; all you need to do is remember George Floyd and how few people know his actual history or the details of his death, thanks to leftist media.
However, one of the advantages the right has is that the left keeps choosing unpopular causes to champion – such as the retention of criminal illegal aliens and the promotion of men-who-identify-as-women in women’s sports.
The left’s long game here is to gum up the works, to make due process on every deportation as difficult as possible.
They will pay a price for Garcia, but it may be worth it to them in the long run.
I’m not clear (and it may not yet be clear) what due process means for all the illegals ICE is working to deport.
huxley:
I totally agree that the left’s goal is to make deportations agonizingly slow. But every time an illegal alien commits a crime and that fact is publicized, I doubt it gets the left many votes that aren’t already firmly in their camp.
@neo :I doubt it gets the left many votes that aren’t already firmly in their camp.
I’m not thinking it gets the left votes, but it buys time to reach a future in which they may win the House, Senate or Presidency and be in a stronger position with as many illegals still in the country as possible.
Of course, that depends on Democrats winning. However, the curse of the midterms is coming up and as the Trump-Musk imbroglio demonstrates, there are plenty of ways for the Trump administration to go wrong.
huxley:
Indeed.
“A warm welcome back to Abrego Garcia”
“That’s funny right there! I don’t care who ya are, that’s funny right there.”
Oh come on now. Don’t you know that when these illegal aliens sneak into the country, they get full constitutional protections? It used to be said that the constitution is not a suicide pact, but I’m beginning to dought it.
Did you all catch the new term late this week that the Ds have now brought out?
Undocumented citizen.
Apparently, the NYT had a headline about the “mysterious” drop in fentanyl overdoses.
For the left, fentanyl deaths were a feature and not a bug of the porous border. It mostly killed white rednecks and for the left, that think, “good riddance.” And human trafficking? Again, a feature and not a bug.
I struggle to understand the motivations and aspirations of the Left. Are they opposed to reason? And to faith? Are they nihilists? Is in in their DNA that they wish / need to be to be herded? Do they live in need of a shepherd, to mill about like retarded sheep looking for a leader who will command them, and they wish to respond, “Zum befehl, Jawohl, Herr Oberst”?
I could go on, but I won’t.
Will he be tried in Tenn? Or Maryland? Makes a big difference in the jury pool.
Cicero, the many leftists I know all think their ideas are all about compassion, fairness, equality, justice.
They really think that throwing the borders open to anyone is sharing the wealth and opportunity to the underprivileged and underserved and is the moral thing to do.
Most leftists are motivated by emotion, tribal identification, some reasoning, a desire for a better world, and a certainty they are more smarter than their opponents for reaching that world.
A lot like conservatives, except, I grant, that conservatives have done a better job of putting that package together.
