Met Gala fashion
I thought I’d do a light little number on the usual over-the-top fashions at the Met Gala, but I ran into the fact that the following story has taken over and dominated everything else. I think it’s a tale for our times, very emblematic of the changes that have gone on in our culture in general.
Some actress I’ve never heard of wore what looks like a jacket, panties (as in “underwear”), and pantihose as her ensemble. But that’s not quite it – as if that weren’t enough. The real news – and what created controversy even among many people who ordinarily wouldn’t be shocked by that sort of thing – was a portrait embedded in the lower part (see how delicately I put that?) of the panties.

Why does Lisa have Rosa Parks in her pants? ?? one of the historic women who fought against racism https://t.co/r4koVZvERr pic.twitter.com/ZFr0LgeU84

That’s what it’s come down to, although I must admit I might have looked at that outfit and completely missed the Rosa Parks reference if it hadn’t been the talk of “X”.
The theme of the entire Gala was this:
In support of this year’s exhibit, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” the Met Gala 2025’s dress code was Tailored for You, a concept inspired by the show’s focus on menswear and suiting.
Follow that link and scroll down and you’ll find lots of photos. A few of the outfits are even quite attractive, such as Zendaya all in white (it’s very hard to duplicate the photos here, so you’ll have to go there). Demi Moore resembles a leftover extra from the Ascot scene in the movie My Fair Lady, Al Sharpton (so thin now!) seems to be sporting a vaguely Captain Hook-ish ruffled cuff look, Jeff Goldblum channels Count Dracula, someone named Colman Domingo resembles a royal blue lampshade with an antimacassar on top, and Diana Ross is – well – Diana Ross.
Is the Met Gala a black or BIPOC event? They seem to be the majority at this $75,000 per person event, or is it just Vanity Fair editing it to appear that way via who they chose to use photos of?
I scrolled through a lot of the pics. Actually, some very nice Clothes, few outlandish ones.. Some of them would have looked better without the Hats, but some of the Mens hats were awesome. I wear hats, when I was in the working world I have a number of them, but now, mostly caps. How does the song go “Well Dressed Man”.
Since Rosa Parks herself earned her eternal glory with her lower part, commemorating her with one’s lower part is only just and right.
I was on the road all day yesterday…and nigh every doggone radio station was going googoo about the costumes. Rich people showing off for other rich people. My “damn bucket” is so dry I have none left to give.
Wound up yelling at my radio for miles as I shifted channels…finally found a news station & that was ok.
I think, like the Oscars and all the other seemingly endless award shows, the Met Gala is increasingly less important.
Who is this Lisa, who does not look black?
I will add, I do not like mens pantlegs that go to the floor.

Lisa is the stage name of the Thai singer/dancer/actress Lalisa Manobal.
She is *massively* famous across Asia, largely due to her membership in the kpop group “BlackPink.” Oddly enough, she’s personally more popular than the group itself is, at least going by follower counts. Obviously she’s a bit less famous in the US, though from what I understand the Blackpink group is supposed to be touring the US this summer and has already completely sold out their tour, so what do I know?
She’s now had an acting debut in that “White Lotus” show on HBO as a minor character.
Korea’s “idols” are often hired by European “high fashion” brands as “ambassadors” to help market their wares in Asia, thus bringing her into fashion circles and getting an invitation to the Met Gala. In prior years other members of the BlackPink group have been invited as well, so I guess this year was “her turn.”
Even with the side by side, that isn’t obviously Rosa Parks to me. Where did that come from?

That was related to my question. Who got close enough to her panties to even realize the images were there?
I would be very surprised if this isn’t a deliberate outrage for attention’s sake, though it’s anyone’s guess if the actress herself realizes the implications.
Is it crass or perverse of me to note that at least she has the legs for the outfit?

Because this year’s theme is the sartorial style of the Harlem Dandy – a type of zoot-suiter from the mid-century Harlem Renaissance.
Some of the, uh, fashions channeled the theme.
So she’s Thai? Are we sure she is a “she” and not a “ladyboy” who make dating Thai “women” a hit-or-miss proposition? And I understand the theme was “Black Dandyism,” or as we use to identify it, “Pimp Style.” Did anyone come dressed up like a character from “Superfly,” (which, by the way is valuable only for the Curtis Mayfield soundtrack)? Or Steve Urkel from “Family Matters”?
Can you imagine the utter fakery in conversations at such a shindig? Can you smell the vapidity?
Ugh. I now know how Thornton Mellon felt at that uppity party his wife threw at the beginning of the movie…
You showed your underwear, + you put Rosa Parks…A USA hero, on your underwear, to “honor” Rosa Parks?
…you need to [think about this plan] more, + talk to [smart + mature people], before trying an action or plan like this one. Good grief.
Like the Japanese people say, [phonetic spelling]- “Namenayo”, which means: “How dumb are you?”
Celebrity person, your silliness makes me laugh.
[I calmly stick my tongue out at this silly celebrity, like a cute, J-pop singer, does].
What a laugh! 😀
During the F-1,race in Miami on the grid walk pre race the sports caster saw her and at got out a welcome, I had to look her up as never heard of her before. She is from Thailand. Probably put it on without a clue but could be wrong.
