Leftists want to murder Trump, according to polls
This news is unsurprising. I noticed the phenomenon among some people I know even in Trump’s first term, and not all of them would even define themselves as leftists. And it’s only gotten worse – plus, as the report describes, Musk is now the recipient of the same sentiment.
Some findings:
Here are some of the troubling numbers, according to the report:
Murder Justification: 31% and 38% of respondents stated it would be at least somewhat justified to murder Elon Musk and President Trump, respectively. (These effects were largely driven by respondents that self-identified as left of center, with 48% and 55% at least somewhat justifying murder for Elon Musk and President Trump, respectively, indicating significantly higher justification for violence against these figures.)
Property Destruction: Nearly 40% of respondents (39.8%) stated it is at least somewhat acceptable (or more) to destroy a Tesla dealership in protest.
Psychological/Ideological Correlations with Assassination Culture: These beliefs are highly correlated with one another, as well as with the justification of the murder of the United Healthcare CEO and hyper-partisan left-wing ideology. (This suggests that support for violence is part of a broader assassination culture, underpinned by psychological and ideological factors.)
Interestingly, the report finds liberal social media platform BlueSky “plays a significant and predictive role in amplifying radical ideation.” BlueSky has seen its new user numbers surge since November’s election, according to the leftist publication The Guardian. Curiously, the “great X-odus” has been driven by liberals “seeking to escape Elon Musk’s X amid warnings from anti-hate speech campaign groups and the EU about misinformation and extremism on the platform,” The Guardian asserts.
In my experience it’s hardly limited to leftists or young people or BlueSky users, and the people I know who have talked of wanting Trump dead don’t really speak much about Mangione. But I know a somewhat different – and generally older – group.
It is of note that they say these things about Trump in front of me although they already know my politics; I think they are just so very in the habit of speaking this way among like-minded people that they temporarily forget I’m not of the same opinion. In a way, that’s the most frightening part of it – that these not-so-leftist and no-longer-young people feel it’s not only socially acceptable but a form of virtue-signaling to talk about having murderous rage towards Trump.
Personally, although I’ve heard people say they hate Musk – people who used to admire him, by the way – I haven’t heard anyone express murderous rage towards him.
And by the way, no one I know is intent on actually killing Trump. The talk is of wanting him killed or at least dead, as a testament to the intensity of the speaker’s hatred towards this Hitlerian figure. And no, not all the Trump-haters I know speak this way. But a significant number do.
Yep, the day of the Butler attempt I was having a conversation with a very close relative who basically said Trump deserved it and it was too bad it was unsuccessful. When I mentioned that another man died her response was well he shouldn’t have supported him.
I very much knew that she hated Trump and have heard from others what she was like on Facebook but I had purposely avoided talking politics with her and she knew I was a moderately enthusiastic Trump supporter and we have many other things in common so it wasn’t that hard to avoid.
It was very disheartening to say the least.
The American middle class is becoming ever more divided into extremes. Which is a major challenge to the nation’s survival as an America united despite differences.
The poor have no dog in the hunt because they are supported for food, shelter, healthcare, “education”, etc. by Big Government. The rich are asset-rich and they too get major gifts from Big Government. The burden, as always, falls on the backbone of America, the middle class. And that class cannot shoulder that ever-enlarging burden much longer. Whose assets have been most hardest hit by Trump’s economic convulsion? Yep, the middle class.
DJT has made our next POTUS inevitably a Democrat. Goodbye JD Vance. And goodbye, the America that was, and will never be again.
All the leftist friends I follow are all now posting the virtue signaling pics from their protest participation on Saturday. All of them over 65 and even today expressing that visceral hatred even more. Sad to see.
So…….without understanding the somewhat Newtonian operation of politics
[action-reaction] these fools are validating violence directed at themselves.
I do not wish for violence in any direction. This does not mean I am not prepared to dish it out in return.
The poor have no dog in the hunt because they are supported for food, shelter, healthcare, “education”, etc. by Big Government.

About 13% of the population is signed up for SNAP (ne Food Stamps). Most people who are eligible for the program do not apply for it. About 4% of the population currently live in federally subsidized housing. About 85% of the population between 5 and 18 are enrolled in government schools and about 75% of those enrolled in tertiary schooling are enrolled in government schools; the proportions were not much different during the Coolidge Administration. Pretty much everyone over the age of 65 is enrolled in Medicare. Medicaid is the only program to which you refer which is both means tested and enrolls most of the impecunious.
Krauthammer said that conservatives think liberals are ill-informed, and liberals think conservatives are evil. I’m moving from thinking leftists are ill-informed, although they are, to thinking that leftism is inherently immoral. “Thou shalt do no murder” is a commandment foundational to civilized society.
Those the gods would destroy, they first make mad. Those who would happily murder Trump, would do the same to a President J.D. Vance. Incapable of grasping what predictably happens to those who cut down all the laws, to get after the ‘devil’.
The politics of this is interesting, I suppose, but what really concerns me is the much deeper revelation that a great many Americans do not aspire to a virtuous ethos, nor, apparently, even spend time thinking about such philosophical subjects.
Hatred, vengeance, revenge… They are the subject of many great works of art. Many wonderful, philosophical quotations. Most of us likely know several concise quips on the subject. For millennia, humans who ruminate on the subject come to the logical conclusion that hatred does as much or more to harm the hater than the object of the hater’s hate.
All major world religions have discourses on the subject, but even secular art, literature, film, music… address the theme.
Take the young man who attempted to assassinate the President in Butler, Pennsylvania. I do not hate him. I feel sorrow that he allowed politics and rage consume him so much that it literally destroyed his life. What a waste of a life. A young man’s life ended before he barely had time to live for what? Hate?
It is alarming that so many of our fellow citizens have such little compassion for human life and humanity. Yet, I would think even someone who had little disregard for others would still try to avoid hate and rage for the harm they will do to themselves; like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die.
For a similar reason I found Hillary’s “basket of deplorables” statement disturbing. It wasn’t the word, “deplorable.” Some people do behave deplorably and there’s nothing wrong for pointing that out if they do. No, “deplorable” has its place in conversation, but “irredeemable?” She said some were irredeemable. Is there a worse thing one human could wish of another?
It amazed me a woman of her intellect and education; who has seen what she has seen in her lifetime, could so callously give up on humanity. A politician seeking to lead a nation believes some portion of the citizens she wishes to lead are irredeemable.
It also disturbed me how few news reports of her statement included the “irredeemable” portion, or took any issue with it.
There was a time, not long ago, when few Americans would admit to feelings of hatred, or wanting vengeance or revenge. Even though all us humans struggle with those emotions, it was understood that expressing them aloud, or wrestling with those emotions, was not something to be proud of, or celebrated or broadcast.
Panicans, kneel before Wall Street!
The Panic Whores (the press) are telling you to jump, so get crackin’!
A few months ago I learned that my sister wished Trump had been killed in Butler, PA.
Politics has poisoned my relationship with her. Ten years ago, during a Christmas visit — I always visited her — I made some mildly critical comments about Obama during the evening news. She and her partner told me I had to leave.
They were surprised that I have not returned. It was a bunch of things, not just the Obama incident. Our relationship is very one-sided.
“All major world religions have discourses on the subject [of hatred, vengeance, revenge]” and how they hurt the one who hates. — Not Islam.
huxley, I am sorry to hear this. What a loss she has dealt herself. I am carefully avoiding politics with the leftist family members I love, and so far, they are avoiding it also.
I don’t think true crazy has gotten going yet; “they” have gone beyond talk with their “peaceful protests” but as those don’t achieve the desired results, the tendency will be to push even harder – and those being pushed will tend to push back.
The divide is great – probably beyond redemption – and if/as Trump is successful in implementing what he was voted into office to do, the TDS people will start bouncing off the walls. Cornered feral, rabid animals are dangerous; I suspect this summer could prove very interesting.
Is execution the same as murder? I may be guilty of the same thing in reverse. I believe evil must be destroyed and I see not just differences in opinion, but much blatant evil around us. Tolerance for the sake of tolerance is not a virtue.
Cicero the doomsayer strikes again.
I have stated, for years, that liberals are vile, evil people. The Democrats are the party of socialism, slavery and tolerance of every kind of depravity. If liberals continue to call for the murder of those they oppose, take them at their word. Remember, a form of justifiable homicide, like self-defense, is defense of others.
An unenlightened person that wishes harm on others for arbitrary or poorly-understood reasons, is always the most shocked when a similar logic comes to pass on them, at their expense. Their outrage always follows, and it’s just as sincerely believed by them as the hate was – and just as ludicrous.
They bring it on themselves – but ‘Consequences’ are just a concept that doesn’t occur to them, even when they’re upside-the-head and as undeniable as sunrise.
Kate,

What a loss she has dealt herself.
Agreed. Very sad.
