  1. Indeed there was a large protest in Montpellier this afternoon. After lunch I ran into the start of the large parade coming down the boulevard with lots of banners, drums, chanting and singing. It was more festive than angry.

But there were plenty of police in helmets with plastic shields nearby in case things shifted.

The protests started with immigrants and high school students, but this protest showed that it has solidly grown to college students, the middle class and the left.

I asked my host about the protest and he said, “It’s France.”

  2. There are a couple of interesting things about Ilhan Omar online. First, a Substack from Bill Shipley, aka Shipwrecked Crew, titled “Yes — Minn. Rep. Ilhan Omar Can Be Denaturalized and Deported If Her Original Immigration Visa Was Obtained Via Fraud By Her Father.” Briefly, daddy apparently suppressed his involvement in the Marxist administration in Somalia and participated in a brutal action against a rival tribe in Somaliland. On his application he claimed to be merely a teacher.

Second, this one from the NY Post, suggesting that Omar’s problem might be lying about her age when her father was naturalized. Although there are statutes of limitations, the timeline would be re-set if she later lied about her age on passport renewals or other federal documents.

Both articles indicate the investigations have nothing to do with her (alleged) marriage to her brother. That visa fraud on his behalf had a statute of limitations which has expired.

  3. In 1947 a nation was divided.
    The British were involved.
    Rival religions were involved.
    Mass displacement occured.
    Mass killings were involved.
Women were forcibly taken into the rivals homes. Are any of them still alive?

    This was India in 1947.

Does anyone still talk about ” refugees” that fled their homes ? Why not ? Does anyone consider the violence by the Muslims on the Hindus? What about the Hindu women forced into Muslim households ? Did they ever get to return? Why is this ignored but there are marches against Israel in multiple countries?
What about the treatment of Hindus and Christians in Pakistan vs the treatment of Muslims that are still in India?????
Someone could write a compare and contrast of the two situations.

But such a comparison would ” not be helpful” to the anti Israel narrative, I suppose.

  4. Jon baker:

    No Jews, no news.

I’ve mentioned the partition of India and formation of Pakistan to many anti-Israel people and they just look at me blankly.

  5. For most of the woke left, history began the day they were born. Nothing ever happended before that, so why bother studying the past? What can they possibly learn from it? Ask Santyana.

  6. RAF Fairford / Iran

    Lo!

After promptly releasing all the terrorists they had in custody and all but ignoring reports of others who escaped after the attempted attack on an American-used airbase, UK authorities are now admitting that the attack was almost certainly directed straight from Iran and through its most murderous terrorist division.

The same prime minister who recently reaffirmed his dedication to not restricting mass migration from Muslim countries is now pretending he is concerned that an Iranian citizen planned a terrorist attack on UK soil. “I can confirm our assessment that it is highly likely to have been coordinated in Iran, almost certainly directed by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard,” Prime Minister Andy Burnham told lawmakers, according to Stars and Stripes. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) is not only the Iranian regime’s military, responsible for coordinating a global terror network, but it also massacred tens of thousands of people within Iran this year.

I’m sure that would have been fairly obvious if they had released the names of the suspects, which the UK still hasn’t done.

  7. huxley:

There is a word in English that describes the UK terrorism response to the Fairford airbase incident.

“Inconceiva .. something or other” maybe there is a word in French?

    :0

  8. om:

    You’ll never guess: inconcevable. 🙂

After the Norman Conquest of Britain in 1066, the Norman French ruled Britain and French became the language of the ruling class. For the next three centuries a flood of French words entered the English language, though the working class kept speaking English.

This allows English speakers to learn French more easily and visa-versa. Pronunciations are different, but one can guess pretty accurately.

All over the world, if you say the word ‘parliament’, it conjures one of two images in the hearer. If the local legislature is called that, the hearer thinks first of that and then of Westminster. If the local ruling body is called something else, the mind immediately thinks of Westminster. It is that identified with England/Britain.

But the word ‘parliament’ has a French root, from the post Norman Conquest time.

IIRC, the modern English words for various animals like cow, pig, etc. are Anglo-Saxon in origin, but the words for the meat of those animals is rooted in Norman French, because the new rulers ate meat more regularly and in greater amounts than the conquered English, at least for a time.

Plus of course the ‘ph = “f” ‘ pronunciation. We spell telephone as we do, instead of ‘telefone’ because of William the Conqueror.

  10. HC68,

“All over the world, if you say the word ‘parliament’, it conjures one of two images in the hearer.”

The two images it conjures to this hearer are George Clinton and Bootsy Collins in capes and 6″ platform shoes demanding we give up the funk and tear the roof off the sucker.

  11. Neo,
Yes, the Jewish angle is part of it.
But also the Western Left does not want to acknowledge the nature of Islam, either. Whether it be in Africa or India.

  12. Democrats have a 59% chance of controlling the Senate.

Since Trump came outta ‘Da closet (…again) for his beloved Mother Russia — I had been pondering on what to do in the midterms. Normally I vote against the Democratic party BUT not necessarily for the GOP, unless they have a candidate I really like. Anyway, my Florida sample ballot came today, and I may just vote against both main parties this time around.

Definitely going GOP w/ Byron Donalds for Gov, but may very well start in 2026, instead of 2028, of at least voting against the TCS MAGA GOP candidates and/or the TCS MAGA GOP. 2028 I’ll probably vote the Federal DEM ticket if Vance is presidential candidate.

Neil J. Gillespie is the NPA candidate for US Senator. Mike Klein is the NPA candidate for House District 3. Yeah, both sound good in quick Google AI review. FL voter registration by party: REP = 5,678,755. DEM = 4,133,397. No Party Affiliation (NPA) = 3,345,188.

  13. “Since Trump came outta ‘Da closet (…again) for his beloved Mother Russia” Karmi

    You mistake pragmatism for allegiance.

  14. Pragmatism, more of a sound bite for the isolationists.

President Trump has said a lot of things about the Russian war on Ukraine, often self contradictory,

IMO his main thing is to get and keep Europe serious about the Russian threat and their internal suicidal policies regarding unlimited immigration of Islamists. Which Russia fosters by allowing transit to the EU borders.

  15. I don’t know why the guy in the video built his house that way, but it looks impossible to burglarize.

  16. The house is really cool, Justin the (ex-?) magician clearly has a great sense of humor.
Sadly, I’m pretty sure there is NO trend of making houses a lot more fun to live in. Certainly not yet in Slovakia.

I’m more keen on having just one fun room in a house, tho the rope attic fun area seems reasonable.
    —
I’m so certain Dem policies, in practice, are terrible, it’s easy for me to vote Rep all the way. Karmi’s support for being against Trump because … Russia????

Seems kinda thoughtless — most independents against Trump are, according to media, mostly upset at high gas prices. Those prices are partly due to prior, mostly Dem, decisions not to have more US refineries (so inky stinky ickky). It’s too late to stop the Rooskies from getting nukes (Jewish Rosenbergs action), but not too late to stop Iran. In both cases, there are almost no US body bags coming back. Cutting Iran’s oil sales (good!) is partly to blame for higher prices, along with the big Biden inflation, and the smaller but real Trump 47 inflation.

Yeah, I’m sad for the Ukrainians dying; I’m even sad for the poor Russian soldiers being sent into the meat grinder. Plus lots of Ukr refugees in Bratislava — all the karaoke bars have Ukr barmaids (cute!). Wanting Trump to support quick Ukrainian victory seems like a dumb desire, despite me also having that desire. Russia is more likely to use nukes than “lose” Ukraine. So to this Trump supporter, Karmi’s position is kinda in favor of making Russia use nukes to avoid losing. I’d prefer longer semi-WW I trenchy kinda new drone war, as is happening. With less US involvement.

I’d also like the US to invade Iran & do regime change; but it ain’t gonna happen, and I’m not sure it would be better if it did happen. Tho a big victory a couple months ago might well have made Trump mostly more popular.

I don’t quite believe the polls in terms of popularity, but they might well be true in terms of voters.
