  1. Re 3: I saw on Instapundit that Adam Carolla went on a great rant about the upcoming problems all the wealthy progressives in Malibu and the Palisades are going to be facing when they attempt to rebuild all their burned up homes and face all the bureaucracy that they voted for vis a vis aquiring building permits and the like.

  2. 1) I caught a little piece of Zuckerberg’s video speech. The part about factcheckers was rather astonishing, for a lefty guy like him AND his wife. I mean, the Chan/Zuckerberg Initiative engaged in abhorrent (IMO) election influencing (tampering?) in the 2020 election.

Now Zuck is saying that factcheckers have little or no credibility?? Sacrilege! Put him in the Dershowitz box. Will Priscilla ever get invited to a swanky party again?

  3. It was Trump shaking his fist after the assassination attempt. Zuckerberg said it was the most “badass thing he’d ever seen in his life.”

He’s not bending the knee to Trump. Trump’s ascendancy is signaling to Zuckerberg and others that it’s all right to run your social media business the way you want to again. That if you fancy yourself a visionary, the government won’t get in your way so it has to be only about making money.

I think that’s what Zuckerberg has always wanted, as well as being thought of as the smartest guy in the room.

  4. “(5) Biden’s corruption is actually the big ‘underreported story’ of the last five years.”

I gag on this, and given the readership here at neo’s place, I hardly need to expound. But expound I will, if only briefly: it’s a therapy of a sort for me to vent. So please indulge or scroll past, okay? Thanks.

It wasn’t underreported (dammit), it was consciously covered up and lied about, covered up and lied about by people close to Biden, and by people close to people who were close to Biden — which includes many so-called journalists who were in a position to know fully what was up but who happily and willingly went along with the ruse.

In fact, calling the story “underreported” *continues* the ruse, if you get me here.

    The smelly bastards . . .

  5. Except that Bass was elected for a term of office. Unless someone mounts a recall campaign, she’s there for a few more years. She may be counting on Angelenos forgetting, but this disaster is rather too large to forget, and some of the new homeless are wealthy and prominent people.

  6. (3) – Speaking of being toast and/or being “done” – whatta ‘bout that DEI LAFD Chief Kristin Crowley *AND* California’s great Progressive Governor Gavin “New-scum” Newsom? New-scum is was in the Top Tier of DEMs 2028 presidential candidates.

Yeah, with a slight move to center – AOC is gonna be the *HOT* DEM presidential candidate in 2028…

  7. Karmi @ 4:39 re: AOC

Very good point about AOC. She can inch to the middle a bit because the true believers will accept it as a necessary move win. She already has the Dem base of about 45%.

On the other side I fear a Vance/ DeSantis primary fight, where they will be forced by the Republican primary base to push them to right, and hurt in the general with Independents. A contentious, ugly primary does no one any good. I can already hear the cries of “RINO” coming from certain sections.

    Kate:

I’m saying Bass is done for her future career, not that she will be forced out of office right now.

She won’t be reelected. She won’t go on to state government, much less national.

  9. Next election for Mayor of Los Angeles is in 17 months. Not much point in wasting effort on a recall.

  10. “I fear a Vance/ DeSantis primary fight, where they will be forced by the Republican primary base to push them to right, and hurt in the general with Independents.” Telemachus

Regardless of how successful the Trump-Vance Presidency turns out to be, I think it unlikely that DeSantis would be able to successfully challenge Vance in the 2028 primary. Nor did Trump’s rightward tilt hurt him in the general with Independents. That said, a 2028 Vance-DeSantis ticket would have broad appeal both on the right and with Independents.

  11. Gabbard – Vance – DeSantis… All have military and political experience.

I’ve been fooled by many politicians before, but based on what I presently see of Tulsi Gabbard I can’t imagine a more fitting woman to be America’s first female President.

If Trump is successful this term it would be great if the Republicans could be wise and get the party to back a Gabbard bid. Maybe have Rand Paul and Ted Cruz run against her so she goes through a challenging primary, but have Vance and DeSantis stay out so she isn’t weakened politically.

  12. Rufus T. Firefly:

Enough about the first female President.

Tulsi could be the first surfer President.

    Cowabunga! 🙂

  13. @ Rufus T. Firefly: I would love to see a President Tulsi Gabbard, but why should J. D. Vance stay out of the running? I would happily vote for a Presiden J. D. Vance, too.

  14. If Trump is successful this term it would be great if the Republicans could be wise and get the party to back a Gabbard bid.

I say no to DIE, Affirmative Action, and supporting a candidate based on her genitalia!

    PS She is not conservative!

  15. Yeah…nah…on Gabbard.
Not a conservative & please can we give up on the “first ____” President?
I give not a thin damn about checking boxes.
