Yes, a rose mallow type of hardy hibiscus. They’re really large and beautiful.
We lost our more tropical hibiscus to the once in 20 year winter this year and have replaced with the more hearty ones like in the picture. Those big blooms are really nice. And also put in a more temperature tolerant lime tree…a couple of times now showing up. We’ll see if it’s around next spring.
It rained in the Atacama. 33mm (1.29 in.) in a few hours in one location, a place where 12mm is the yearly total avg. Caused some spectacular flash floods. Snow and hail in the higher elevations (see video at ALMA).
Dunno beyond speculation, but the current El Niño (ongoing) is quite strong, so maybe links in somehow.

Yes, a rose mallow type of hardy hibiscus. They’re really large and beautiful.
We lost our more tropical hibiscus to the once in 20 year winter this year and have replaced with the more hearty ones like in the picture. Those big blooms are really nice. And also put in a more temperature tolerant lime tree…a couple of times now showing up. We’ll see if it’s around next spring.
It rained in the Atacama. 33mm (1.29 in.) in a few hours in one location, a place where 12mm is the yearly total avg. Caused some spectacular flash floods. Snow and hail in the higher elevations (see video at ALMA).
Dunno beyond speculation, but the current El Niño (ongoing) is quite strong, so maybe links in somehow.
I thought we were in a La Niña, with El Niño to come this winter. I can’t keep up.

is false. Journalists did their bit to publicize his bogus accomplishments and never asked questions or even looked up what they’d written about him previously. When the truth came out they dogpiled him.
Arday is in the Seventh Circle, but the journalists who kissed him on the way up and kicked him on the way down will be in the Eighth or Ninth.

A totally trivial tangent: just reading URLs does not resolve ambiguity about the related post.
Does it mean: “university suspends academic (who exposed jason arday for plagiarism)” — which is correct; or “university suspends (academic who exposed jason arday) for plagiarism” which would be a bit of ironic karma.
Back to Neo’s photo: I thought at first “That’s a Rose of Sharon blossom like on my grandma’s tree!” and then Charles called it a hibiscus and I got confused.
I associate the name hibiscus with short bushes, not 6′ tall trees, because that’s what I’ve seen in the garden stores.
So I looked it up.
