  1. I imagine many here, like me, don’t even bother with 60 Minutes anymore. But on rare occasion they do something worthwhile, like this expose on the Mossad pager attack. Lots of info here I didn’t know.

Stumbled across this while watching King of the Road. So, thanks for that.

  2. Highly, highly recommended, especially for anyone interested in France, in WWII-era history, and/or in human behavior under stress.

I’m very interested in all of those things, thanks. Will check it out. Not sure if I posted here or just thought about it and didn’t, but there’s a great series called The New Look

    https://m.imdb.com/title/tt18177528/

Coco Chanel, Christian Dior navigating through the occupation. Fashion is just the setting. The real story is the pressure cooker that was occupied France. It’s very well done.

  3. how about the head of l’oreal, schundler (sic) who was a big time funder of the Cagoule, one of the heirs to the fortune Mdme Bettencourt, was involved almost 60 years later in a financing scandal with Sarkozy, of course the grand olde man of the socialists Francois Mitterand, was a Vichy militia at some point,

  4. If you want to see examples of media bias by omission and few facts, compare how the mainstream media talks about the death row inmates that Biden commuted their sentences to life with articles in the New York Post website or Fox News Website. Some of these he commuted had killed multiple people. There were child killers and bank robbers who killed.

  5. I promise I’m not trying to monopolize today’s open thread, but I saw this on instapundit, and felt compelled to say a little something. I have no strong opinion as to whether this is correct or not, but on several occasions here I have lamented the state of scientific journalism. Half the time (at least) even in “scientific” magazines, the author gets things just wrong, or writes something extremely misleading.

    https://www.labrujulaverde.com/en/2024/12/scientists-claim-dark-energy-does-not-exist-and-accelerated-expansion-of-universe-is-an-illusion-caused-by-gravity-slowing-down-time/

It is in that sense that I was very impressed with the article above. It is very well done and the author nails the current state of thinking on a very complex topic, and explains very well what you need to know to understand the paper. Imagine my surprise when I looked him up:

Guillermo Carvajal. Degree in Geography and History, specialized in Art History, researcher, ex-librarian, in the blogosphere since 2005 with La Brújula Verde. I write about history, art, culture, travel, geography… Working on content and advertising for blogs.

  6. that doesn’r seem to make sense, gravity slowing down time, isn’t matter being expelled at greater and greater distance, involve centripetal forces,

  7. RE: Supposed “drones”

I suspect that what we are dealing with is a mixture–actual drones, but also some genuine NHI UAPs.

Regardless of this, it seems pretty obvious that the government knows what these objects are–both kinds of them–and, that, for whatever reason, it does not want to tell us what the Biden Administration knows.

I also suspect that information to be some form of bad news and, so, the outgoing Biden Administration is just hoping it can keep us in the dark long enough for them to slither out of D.C, leaving the incoming Trump Administration “holding the bag” of having to deal with this situation.

  8. @miguel cervantes:that doesn’r seem to make sense, gravity slowing down time

Whether it makes sense to you or not, the GPS satellites have to correct for this. I don’t vouch for everything in the article Mike Plaiss linked, but that gravity affects time has been incorporated into engineering.

According to the theory of general relativity, on the other hand, a clock in a weaker gravitational field will tick faster than one that’s stationary at sea level. Apparently, gravity weighs down time, too. A clock aboard a GPS satellite in a medium Earth orbit will gain about 45 microseconds per day over a clock that’s at sea level on the earth…

if the relativistic effects had been ignored, the timing accuracy would have suffered to the extent of 38 microseconds per day between updates of the clock parameters. That’s a deal-breaker, considering that we expect 100-nanosecond accuracy.

  9. @Snow On Pine:I suspect that what we are dealing with is a mixture–actual drones, but also some genuine NHI UAPs.

I suspect that we may have seen a few real drones, and then a lot of people who don’t look out at night much started looking and calling a “drone” anything they didn’t know what it was, and the government has no idea how to address it because they have no idea what people are actually seeing.

The stars at the 39 second mark are recognizably the constellation Orion. From this you can determine that the bright lights behind the trees are the stars Sirius and Procyon. No anamalous objects are apparent in this video.

I may have told this story before but out walking one night I was startled by a large, pale, glowing delta wing, making a soft noise like static, flying slowly over head, apparently huge and far-off. It took me a few minutes to figure it out, it was trumpeter swans (which are the size of small children) and the city lights reflecting from their feathers, flying low and slowly. There’s a lot of weird-looking stuff out there.

  10. I was wondering when the unicorns would gallop into this news.

Not China, not Iran, not human pranksters, nor even black ops by the US government. Nope, unicorns. What can’t they do?
