Is Joe slated to go?
There isn’t much question that President Biden has been deteriorating lately. He also seems to be laying low more and more often, either because he needs rest or because his handlers feel that almost any exposure is too much exposure.
But there remains the question of what the Democrats are going to do about it. In the comments here, many people have told me that I am wrong in my assumption that there’s nevertheless still a good chance that Biden will be the Democrats’ 2024 nominee, mainly because there’s no one all that good to replace him (even Newsom is vulnerable), because of the how-do-we-get-rid-of-Kamala-Harris problem, and because Joe himself has tremendous ambition to run and will only leave the field kicking and screaming.
Here’s someone who seems to agree with me.
Now, don’t get me wrong; I’m not saying it’s a done deal that Biden will remain. But I think it’s more likely than not. It depends on the state of the investigations against him – the more the GOP is allowed to do in that regard and the more it is reported on fairly by the MSM (which hasn’t happened yet), the more likely it is that Joe will be ushered out, gently or harshly. It also depends on the state of his deterioration. If it becomes absolutely impossible to hide and he becomes utterly unable to function, something will have to happen. But they’ve propped him up so far, and most (perhaps even all) of the Democrats I know would vote for him even if he is unable to function, knowing that there’s a group of people behind him who would continue on the leftist path with him as some sort of figurehead.
[NOTE: For that matter, what’s up with McConnell?]
I’m pretty convinced that if it ain’t Joe, it can really only be Newsom. But as you say, Newsom certainly has problems. California’s fairly abysmal track record in terms of huge numbers of tax payers fleeing the state due to the insane crime and taxes can be fairly blamed on him and his administration.
But I really think the media with help from search engines and social media can suppress a lot of those negatives and construct a narrative about Newsom that would present him as the younger and more compassionate choice over that mean ol’ Trump. Combined with his charisma such a story might have a lot of appeal for some middle class women in critical districts in swing states. But who knows?
Oh… and the Turtle froze up again? Yeesh. Although I’ve heard that turtles can survive being frozen over winter.
Despite your change story (and I suppose I understand it, at least a little bit), I just cannot fathom how so many of my friends and associates (most of whom are professionals or corporate executives) continue to support the Dems despite their obvious march toward a non-democratic future. When Dem supporters say “my democracy” I think many of them really mean it: it is theirs and belongs only to them. I just finished another letter to one of my Senators, Bernie Sanders, in response to his latest scare letter about “climate change.” (Hey, someone has to do it!) Any way, I was looking back at one I sent in August 2022 harping against the so-called Inflation Reduction Act, pointing out that it was fundamentally a blatant lie to the American people. So Shocked! (TM) that I was right. Folks tell me that not that many people actually write to their elected representatives, so I use up some of my frustration in the effort. Generally, I do get responses, so I figure I am at least using up some of their staff time.
Just realized I was not responsive to this topic. My sense is that he will not make it to the election. The wall protecting him seems to be weakening and he will ultimately get pulled by The Party, even if he somehow manages not to decline much more physically.
Ha! This just in from the WSJ: “Manhattan federal prosecutors are investigating Tesla’s use of company funds on a secret project that had been described internally as a house for Chief Executive Elon Musk, people familiar with the matter said.” Looks like Elon’s management of X has hit a leftist nerve. Just guessing.
Neo, I know that many others don’t think Biden will make it to the end of this term, much less run again, but I’m generally in agreement with you. Biden is mean-spirited, angry, and aggressively power hungry. He’s wanted this position his entire life, and I don’t think there’s any way he would voluntarily give it up. If he’s at all sentient he will run again as long as he can be propped up by those who need him for their positions.
25th Amendment? That’s a possibility if he degenerates too much. But here’s a major worry that I believe the Dems have with that, or any other scenario that moves Kamala into the Oval office: She may be incompetent, but she’s as power hungry as Biden is … and she’s lucid (even if she doesn’t sound like it). Getting her out of the way once she was in place as POTUS, and with HER team ensconced, would be essentially impossible.
I think the Dems are stuck in ’24 with what they have.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMCh9gLZofo
The way I see it going down is someone convinces Dianne Feinstein to retire. Newsom appoints Kamala to fill her seat — not hard: a Senate seat is a long-term sinecure, while even she can see the Biden/Harris ticket might not get re-elected. In that case she’d have to sit on the sidelines for two or four years.
So with Kamala out of the way, Newsom can take her place. Maybe the party will use the 25th Amendment on Joe, maybe they’ll let him finish his term and then run Newsom. Either way, they’ve got a powerful candidate in Newsom. Granted, readers of this blog, and I, find him terrible. Very many American women, particularly college-educated, will swoon and vote for him. The way to total destruction of the USA will then be open.
As Nonapod noted. McConnell had another mini stroke. God, we are being ruled, yes not governed, by a geriatric aristocracy. What a bunch of mentally disturbed people who even with one foot in the grave cannot give up power. Truly sick minds.
Off topic. 6 hours now without power, JEA “reassessing” our outage after tree removal from line.
physicsguy:
I assume that by “mini-stroke” you are referring to a TIA, which is not a mini-stroke but is completely reversible. It is a warning sign, however, and tests are warranted.
However, it’s not even clear that McConnell had a TIA. His symptoms could be any number of other things: for example, dehydration, migraine aura, low blood pressure (or side effects of drugs for high blood pressure), inner ear disturbance, and other things as well. Some are innocuous and some are not.
F:
Kamala Harris was already a US senator (elected in 2016) when Biden chose her as his running mate. An appointment by Newsom to that job would be a demotion and an insult.
The people who will “swoon” for Newsom would be voting for any Democrat. The question is whether he brings more people in than Biden would. Of course, if the election is fraudulent, any Democrat will do.
The problem with Newsom is not the mess that is California. I live in CA and my Dem friends are happy with it. Or at least don’t want to harsh the narrative. The problem is vaulting a white male over a black, or “intersectional”, woman – Kamala – no matter how incompetent and clueless she is.
@ Neo
“…and because Joe himself has tremendous ambition to run and will only leave the field kicking and screaming.”
• 100% agree – and that goes double for his spouse.
• I’ll add that it is very clear that he is the head of a crime family, and he will do whatever it takes to protect himself and his family – both foes & friends understand that – which means he will not voluntarily give up his power.
• And those individuals, organizations & nations that are benefiting from his pillaging, protection & perfidious behavior will back him to-the-hilt – and do whatever it takes to protect his power.
Neo, you obviously have more medical knowledge, and I’m sure you’re correct about possible causes. For us commoners, “stroke” covers it. If it was my wife and I was calling 911, I would say she was having a “stroke” and let the experts sort it out at the ER.
Doesn’t negate my main point that these mentally ill people clinging to power are way past their expiration date.
@ Neo
“Now, don’t get me wrong; I’m not saying it’s a done deal that Biden will remain.”
• 100% agree.
• Have always told my friends that we would know that the Dems wanted to remove Biden, if they found a way to remove Harris first. Nobody wanted a President Harris. I’ll add that Harris is Biden’ “insurance policy” against being removed from office (e.g., impeachment, 25th Amendment).
• However, the chance is not zero – Biden steps down and Harris is sworn in – and I do wonder if the thinking of those in control of Biden has changed (see emerging Corruption evidence).
Dem-Pros:
1) Dems can “publicly” claim Biden resigned to due to health, and “privately” (leaked) claim that they believe in the Rule of Law/ No one is above the Law (see Trump indictments).
2) Dems will not hurt themselves with the party faithful because Biden is not Clinton or Obama – truly adored and respected (see every Biden primary run).
3) Harris and the Dems can claim the two biggest historic “First” – that will be part of every Dem speech/ campaign for generations (see Great Society/ Civil Rights narrative).
4) Clear by now that Biden is not actually running anything – and the same group can continue with Harris as the front (see past 2.5 years).
5) Even if Harris decided she wanted to run in 2024, she would not be an impediment to other Dem candidates (see Harris 2020 primary run).
Dem-Cons:
1) Harris could do significant damage to the country in ~1.5 years – by actions or inactions – and be blamed for the damage (see Carter).
2) Harris could do significant damage to the Dem chances by the Nov 2024 election – even if she is not the nominee (see Clinton & 2000 election).
Either way – Pres Biden or Pres Harris – there should be any opportunity for the Republican party in 2024.
It’s all speculation but I agree with Neo’s take here. So long as the Democrats believe (know) they can win another four years with Joe he will be their nominee. They are getting their agenda implemented with Joe in place, so no need to upset that applecart. They will only jettison him if the circumstances change, e.g.; he dies or it is determined he will fail at winning reelection.
They don’t need Biden to withdraw- the DNC need only give Newsom the go ahead to start a campaign- the DNC will pick whoever they want just like they did in 2020. The delay in doing so might actually be to prevent Newsom from having any additional challengers. I would look to see where the deadlines are for entering the earliest primaries. If Newsom isn’t declared by the time he needs to register for Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina, then it will be Biden unless RFK can take him out, which isn’t implausible in a heads up race (I ignore Williamson.)
Neo: “Of course, if the election is fraudulent, any Democrat will do.”
Who here thinks that Hillary Clinton is planning and scheming and conniving to slither her way onto the ticket?
they haven’t humiliated us sufficiently yet sadly,
It doesn’t matter whether the 2024 Democrat nominee is Biden or Harris or Newsom or AOC or a dog catcher.
They’ve already received the most amount of votes ever.
Every future presidential election will be another 2020 ‘election’.
Sgt. Joe Friday: I like to think the Democrats believe that Hillary is so damaged politically that even they cannot put her forward and win.
I agree that for now the powers that be (whoever they are) have decided that Biden is the least bad alternative. There are simply no good options for getting rid of both Joe and Kamala. But I also think that if Kamala was at least semi-competent and able to talk for more than 2 minutes without cackling, then she would replace Joe.
While I think it’s true that as long as Joe still retains some of his faculties he would never give up power willingly, I don’t think it would be that hard to get rid of him if that was the decision. Joe’s long history of corruption would be enough for the public to turn on him if the Dems decided they were no longer going to protect him.
“The question is whether he [Newsom] brings more people in than Biden would”
Good point, neo. Candidates from CA do not expand the electoral map for Democrats and may even make it harder to win elsewhere. I believe that Kamala was chosen because of George Floyd. Assuming as you pointed out the election is fair har-de-har-har.
Sgt Joe,
I think she is looking at it. She has been far more visible in the last few weeks for some reason. The shadows of indignant deserts birds are beginning to reel.
The situation is fluid.
Neo:
“Kamala has already been a Senator. . .” Precisely. She knows it’s a cushy job, it pays well, including raising funds with Hollywood stars, and she can spend the next 30 years as a Senator without doing much at all. Whereas the presidency — well, she tried that and lost big time. Plus, she would have competition, so there’s always the chance she would lose. In the Senate, as a Democrat from CA, she can coast for the rest of her life. Won’t have to read briefing books (which she doesn’t do very well), won’t have any competition unless CA becomes a blue state, and will ALWAYS be called “Madam Vice President.” I think she could be talked into it very easily.
I stand by what I’ve said a few times. Brandon will be ushered out (of running for re-election; he’ll remain as figurehead) and Newsom ushered in sometime in November or early December. I think the debate with DeSantis will be used to introduce Newsom to a national audience. I guess if DeSantis truly annihilates Newsom, and in a way so obvious the media cannot successfully spin it…well that’ll be a big problem. But that’s pretty unlikely.
As for Harris, I think the challenge of pushing her aside is overstated. She’s hopeless and deeply unpopular. Even many Democrats are pretty ambivalent about her. I don’t think most blacks much care one way or another about her. Her main base of support seems to be the ‘wine moms’: upper and upper middle class, mostly white women who brandish their wokeness much like a Hermès handbag. This group is highly fickle and easily distracted
McConnell should step down as leader. I honestly think all of the highest political offices should have an informal (‘gentleman’s agreement’) age limit. Probably 75 for President and Vice President and 80 for the Congressional leadership. It’s a bipartisan problem and a little absurd at this point.
Daniel Henninger in the Wall Street Journal probably is on the right track. While the Republicans are hurtling down the Trump track once again, the Democrats are hard-nosed and obsessed with winning and will do whatever is necessary to do so.
His point is that most Americans really strongly don’t want to re-do the choice of Biden or Trump, and whichever party nominates another candidate wins over independents pretty easily and takes the win. He reckons that the GOP as the stupid party are locked into nominating Trump, while the Democrats as the evil party will do whatever is necessary to win. They will be ruthless enough to jettison Biden and Harris, one way or another, while the hapless GOP flames out with Trump. Sounds about right to me.
Everyone says the Dems have to “do something” about Kamala Harris. Not so fast.
Don’t forget how controlled the Dem lo-fo base is. Nobody in my extended family (but me) has ever seen a Kammy word-salad speech, or if they have, they resolutely deny it. As far as they’re concerned, she’s not a dunce, she’s just overshadowed by the brilliance of Joe! As soon as he’s out of the picture, her own sunlight will shine forth. As a woman of color, she cannot be other than wonderful, and the media will ensure that her glory will shine! The AWFLs will swoon!
On a related point I am convinced that the whole “Trump is the one we can beat” thing is a ruse, designed to embolden the GOPe. If it was the case, why would the Dems be risking everything to dirty him up?!
No, the smart Dem money wants Kammy for the media to make into Wonder Woman, and knows Trump is the only one who can ruin her triumphal coming-out!
I don’t want to appear to simply be the “Amen Corner” for GB…but without serious & significant structural change at state & local levels…or the counterrevolution occurring sooner than I imagine…”Every future presidential election will be another 2020 ‘election’.”
Joe can be deader than he now appears & he’ll still set records for states won; maybe all 57 that the Barry Hussein the 0 visited.
IF we’ve suffered through 4 years of a doddering, dementia-afflicted ruthless and mean-spirited sociopath like Joe, who’s to say that Kamala wouldn’t be a much easier presidential manikin for the White House human resources team to manage?
Mostly they’ve kept her off the stage, as all hands have been focused on propping up the Maryland Dummy and timing his shots with his appearances, with plenty of sundown-rest time afterwards. But if those same resources were turned to Kamala, then there’s an argument that she’d be more amenable to instruction, and with decidedly less baggage to defend against. Unpopular? Pffhhht. Joe got his 83 million votes arranged from his basement, didn’t he?
Watch for the stories about the brave woman-of-color blazing a trail as the very first VP. If those start to appear, the path is being cleared.
Tragic, insightful comment from Neo:
> Of course, if the election is fraudulent, any Democrat will do.
I wish we had clean elections. I wonder how many Democrats would be elected if we had clean elections, a fair media, and the internet giants stop censoring.
On John Solomon’s podcast (via JustTheNews.com), Newt Gingrich says the Republican investigation into Biden corruption must be broadened to address the Weaponization of Federal government from the time of Obama and Hillary at SoS:
“There’s, I think, a second reason for dramatically broadening the investigation,” Gingrich said on the “John Solomon Reports” podcast. “I’m working now on a series of articles for the American Spectator – making the case that this is really about the weaponization of government, the collapse of the rule of law and its replacement by the rule of power. And that really involves three principles. It involves Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Joe Biden.”
______________
THAT comprehensive statement about the three principles involved is ringing: “…this is really about [1] the weaponization of government, [2] the collapse of the rule of law and [3] its replacement by the rule of power. And that really involves three principles.”
Gingrich states that the entire net will involve dozens and dozens of what were, in effect, operatives. Recall, he adds, that over Watergate scandal, a total of 46 people were sentenced to prison.
Newt Gingerivh, this is an election about the rule of law
https://justthenews.com/government/congress/newt-gingrich-says-house-gop-should-broaden-biden-investigation-hillary-clinton
“This is an election about the Rule of Law and the survival of our Constitution.” — Newt Gingrich.
WOW. Too true.
“And that really involves three principles. It involves Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Joe Biden.”
I wonder whether the transcript of the podcast contains a misspelling– since Gingrich refers to three individuals (Obama, Clinton, and Biden), the word “principal,” meaning the primary actor in a criminal offense, would make better sense than “principle.”
Unfortunately it looks likely that McConnell has Parkinson’s Disease manifested by the pathognomonic facial appearance, together with the distressing freezing (at the lectern here) which is one of the defining symptoms of the disorder. Symptoms are unpredictable, varying with levels and timing of medication (L-dopa).
Wow, gotta hand it to Newt. In the Dershowitz thread I asked are even Republicans questioning this vigorously (lawfare/censorship/rule-of-law). But it needs to be more than just Gingrich.
PA+Cat 12:11am: “would make better sense than “principle”
The word “principle” makes absolutely no sense whatever when applied to Clinton (either one), Obama or Biden, in any context.
MarylandDelaware DummyThere’s a lot of focus on the Republicans and the perilous crossroads they’re facing, but much less on the train wreck for the Democrats that’s Joe Biden. I happen to agree with Neo that Joe’s ego and the lack of alternatives will keep him in pole position for the Democratic nomination, but what if he pulls a Mitch McConnell on us in one of the debates four weeks before the election? It seems like the Democrats are putting all their money on a Trump conviction and nomination without paying too much attention to their own side.
T-Rex: Hey, a fellow Vermonter!
It will be Biden or Newsome or Kennedy.
If it’s Biden the demokrat voters will vote for him regardless of his mental state or even if he is a cadaver.
If it’s Newsome, the demokrat voters will all vote for him as well. The voters will overlook his abysmal record in Calif. because they most likely agree with what he has done there or will overlook any shortcoming of his record there.
If it’s Joe Kennedy, the demonkrats will all vote for him because he is not a republican. Ditto for Kamala Harris – an unbelievably dumb and ignorant individual.
Demokrat voters care only that the next president is not a republican and they cast their votes based entirely upon their emotions; how they “feel” about a candidate. And because they “feel” all republicans are Hitler, they will always vote for demonkrats.
For the umpteenth time: the greatest threat a representative democracy can face, is the voters voting for a national suicide.
they stole the election, thats why they don’t care, the gratuitous treatment to harrison floyd for one, is an illustration of that, they only have to steal a handful of counties, the wisconsin supreme court will be very helpful,
Is Joe stated to go?
No.
Next question.

They just don’t stop.
(No rest for the wicked.)
Of course they want to get rid of Joe and preferably Kamala as well. I think the dreaded “A” word has already been brought up in regards to Trump. So what about a JFK like scenario for Biden? This could conveniently be blamed on MAGA Republicans (and by extension all Republicans), How could anyone support an R after such brutality? I frighten myself even thinking about things like this, but recent events seem to demonstrate that nothing is really beyond the pale for those who desire to keep the D’s forever in charge of “our Democracy”. And hopefully I do not need to clarify that I think this would be a really terrible thing to happen, and I don’t support the idea in any way.
he’s serving like a cigar store indian, enabling the destruction of the country, turtle is much the same way, thats their role,
I still think it will end up Newsom or Michelle Obama – she’s the only one who the Dems could plausibly use against Harris without the ‘black woman’ problem…in fact, she’s the ‘authentic’ black that Harris isn’t (and her husband Barack isn’t either). A ‘grassroots’ campaign urging Moochelle to run to ‘preserve Obama’s and Biden’s legacy’ would be plausible and could attack Harris for being ineffective without other problems….
There is a rumor that incriminating audio will surface in the next few months that will force Joe to withdraw or even resign. It’s just a rumor, so far as I know, and even if there is a recording, so much is already out there implicating Joe and it hasn’t hurt him.
Experience suggests that Joe won’t go easily. If he pulls out of the nomination race, will there still be impeachment procedings? Pulling out might be seen as an admission of guilt and speed the clock towards impeachment or resignation, which would make Harris president and harder to dislodge. And how are the primary registration deadlines? Will Harris and Newsom have time to get on the ballot? There could be hundreds of Biden delegates and Biden not running. The race could conceivably be decided at the convention. A dream, perhaps, for political junkies and political nostalgics but something that the country hasn’t seen in decades.
Another rumor: new Maryland governor Wes Moore for VP. Young, articulate, etc. The new Obama. He could stop Black men from deserting the ticket. He might be more popular with Black women than Kamala Harris. Liberal White women would be too afraid to object and might even take him to their hearts. People would stop talking about Michelle Obama and leave her alone. Newsom and Moore would be two comparatively young guys, this century’s Clinton and Gore. I say this knowing nothing about the man other than that he wrote a book about someone else named Wes Moore.
_____________
Newt Gingrich certainly has experience in DC politics, but at this point he may have no more inside knowledge of what’s going on than any of us. Whatever personal contacts he still has may not lead to much real info, and he may be living in the same echo chamber as the rest of us.
We’re in the world of cRaZY. Sure, most of you agree. Today’s recent proof:
Sanctuary locale New York City’s Mayor Eric Adams in very plain English words stated about immigration on Tuesday August 29, 2023, “Any plan that does not include stopping the flow at the border is a failed plan.” See, https://www.cbsnews.com/newyork/news/mayor-eric-adams-hints-he-may-send-asylum-seekers-to-other-parts-of-new-york-state-defying-the-governors-wishes/#
To any sane person, Adams is saying that there is a substantial flow that’s gotta be stopped. This, of course, is consistent with the news reports from various sources that readers of this blog have seen.
Yesterday, August 30, 2023, on recorded TV no less, Biden’s (and really the Democrat Party’s) own spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre, was confronted as follows by Mayor Adams’ statement, “Eric Adams is saying…any plan that does not include stopping the flow at the border is a failed plan. So, why aren’t you guys stopping the flow at the border?”
Yet, despite all the news reports, which include videos of undocumented immigrants streaming across the border and hordes of undocumented immigrants sleeping on NYC’s streets, and despite being called out by fellow Democrat Eric Adams, KJP, on recorded TV, had no shame in immediately responding: “We are stopping the flow at the border.” See,
https://twitter.com/CurtisHouck/status/1696950249141485987?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1696950249141485987%7Ctwgr%5E620b4dae157995db6a28c60a63ce809eddd267ac%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.dailywire.com%2Fnews%2Fkarine-jean-pierre-claims-biden-is-stopping-illegal-aliens-from-crossing-southern-border
With all that being said, because we are in a cRaZY world (which of course is the destination of the Gramscian march),
Joe Biden will be the Democrat nominee, even if he is reduced to 1 functional hour a day, even if he is reduced to speaking only about his family’s suffering during its kitchen remodeling 19 years ago.
So, yeah, we think the trick for the Dems is replacing Harris with Newsom. But we’re in cRaZY world. Harris will be his VP.
Ira says, “So, yeah, we think the trick for the Dems is replacing Harris with Newsom. But we’re in cRaZY world. Harris will be his VP.”
