News roundup
(1) It’s a tale everyone seems to be covering, although I don’t find it especially interesting. But if you want to discuss it, here’s the Kimberly Guilfoyle grift-and-resignation story.
(2) Now Andy Burnham says that yes, the men apprehended (briefly) concerning the Fairford base incident were probably connected with Iranian terrorism:
A suspected plot to attack a U.S.-run military air base in England was “almost certainly” directed by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, British Prime Minister Andy Burnham said Monday.
Burnham previously said there are strong indications Iran was linked to the apparent plan last month to attack the RAF Fairford air base, which has been used by American bombers to strike Iran in the ongoing war.
Police have arrested seven men in the investigation into the alleged plot, but all suspects have been released on bail and no one has been charged so far.
Why were they released? Either it’s the utter incompetence of the British authorities, or they’re being tracked and monitored very closely in order to lead authorities to the higher-ups. One can hope.
(3) There’s nothing magical about ten thousand steps:
But according to a recent Lancet Public Health study, which analyzed data from more than 110,000 people, taking 7,000 steps offered the same health benefits as 10,000 steps, including a lower risk of all-cause mortality, reduced cardiovascular risk, and even a decreased risk of developing dementia. …
As it turns out, the 10,000-step benchmark wasn’t based on science. It originated in Japan in the 1960s, when a pedometer company called Yamasa created a product named “manpo-kei,” which translates to “10,000-step meter.” The catchy number stuck — and so did the idea that 10,000 was the gold standard.
Walking is good for you – at least, I certainly hope so, because I’ve been doing it almost every day for about forty years. I’ve never counted steps, but I try to walk at a brisk pace for 45 minutes. Strength training is supposed to be very very good, too, but when I try to add that my old injuries kick up.
(4) About Russia’s plague labs.
(5) Fetterman presents a dilemma for the Democrats. They would dearly love to be rid of him, but the trick is to replace him with another, far less independent, Democrat. The state he represents is Pennsylvania, and so that’s not a given. At any rate, they’re stuck with him until the 2028 election. And if they annoy him too much, he can always go over to the dark (GOP) side.
The Democrat tent is big, but only on its left wing. The right wing is practically non-existent.

(3) Ha. Really? It’s good that people focus on a bit on fitness, but that contrast being tested or elucidated seems rather minor and silly. What about 4,000 steps or 40,000 steps? Is the lower one useless? Will the longer one kill me? I don’t think so.
As to story #1…no relation.
Thank God. Just saying.
There is no reason, practical or political, for Fetterman to change parties. He can continue to vote as he sees fit without fear of being replaced until the next election. Certainly the national Democrat party bosses are unhappy with him but I’ve not heard or read a lot expressions of frustration from the people of PA.
I carry 5-pound hand weights whenever I walk. I built up to that over time. There are 1-pound weights and wrist straps available. Really makes your back and neck much stronger.
Netanyahu, I like him.
From the Jerusalem Post
Netanyahu, Trump discussed possibility of renewing strikes against Iran before elections – report.
Senior US officials told Axios that Netanyahu cited alleged Iranian efforts to rebuild nuclear capacity as the reason for launching new strikes.
> What about 4,000 steps
I looked at the curves several years ago, and pretty much anything between 4,000 and 7,000 is good. I use kettlebells for resistance training twice a week. Kettlebells are easy to use, and you can keep a couple in the corner and work out at home. Don’t overdo the kettlebells though, they will kill your next day walk if you do.
There’s nothing magical about ten thousand steps
Sort of like “6 feet apart”.
I walk an hour every day, which works out to ~3.5 miles, depending on my pace that day. That’s about 7000 steps, according to my wrist thingy.
@Charles –
My GP told me that, “at my age” (grumble), I should be doing some “weight training” to address lost muscle mass & stuff.
Sounds like you are recommending the kettlebells?
> Sounds like you are recommending the kettlebells?
I do. The tricky part is getting the right weight, i.e., don’t get too heavy, they aren’t like barbells. I’ve also gone back to old fashioned resistance training, lighter weights, more reps. I’m 80, when I used barbells, 200 lbs was the easy load for back squats and deadlifts, now I use 15 and 25 lb kettlebells. That weight difference is real, you have to hang on to kettlebells, you can’t just rest them across your upper back.
My phone walking tracker has 7k steps at about 2.5 miles. My phone is in my right front pants pocket. I track daily steps, and miles on my phone. I have a spreadsheet where I enter the info. Summer time I get a lot more steps working in my very large yard. I go to the gym, try to do at least 3 times a week. Only for half hour, but I go. I just do weight machines, 12 to 14 machines. I have added a lot of weight to what I do. Not really going to get a lot of muscle at 80 ( well 80 in 4 days).
Concerning the men arrested and released, why did it take so long to decide that they weren’t merely sightseeing?
I haven’t kept up with the Kimberly Guilfoyle story. But I do have a question. Has she had a lot of plastic surgery? The pictures I’ve seen look like she overdid it.
The walking thing got me curious. I looked at my spreadsheet and this is what I have recorded.
2025 – 2,283,400 steps, 782 miles
2026 – Jan through Sept – 1,675,600 steps, 580 miles.
Daily steps add up, a lot.
UK
The police, politicians, social workers, press, courts and everyone did nothing while thousands of native Brit girls were drugged and raped on an industruial scale by Muslims.
Sorry, they did do something. They arrested people who raised a stink like Tommy Robinson, imprsioned him without (1) Jury trial over and over. He’s in court again next week for being a pain in the side of the Communist/Jihadist Regime. I recommend his books “Enemy Of The State” and “Silenced.”
…and people wonder why we yanked our B-1 bombers out of this 3rd rate garbage dump the UK has turned into. We don’t trust them to do the right thing.
I actually give damn about the place as my daughter, her husband and 2 of my grandchildren live, go to school and work in London. Here’s hoping France wakes up at their next election in April, 2027 and the UK in 2029 assuming it isn’t a caliphate by then and King Charles is not a Caliph, Imam or Ayatollah.
4) Re: “What Is Russia Hiding in Its Plague Labs?”
I’m sure they’re up to no good. And equally sure that we are engaged in the same monstrous research. Prompting the alternative question(s); What are WE (and the Chinese) Hiding in OUR Plague Labs? Covid, funded by our “gain of function” ‘research’ demonstrated that we should fear our Deep State’s (Fauchi et al) machinations as much as Russia’s…
Leading to the conclusion that the “12 Monkeys” scenario is as likely to occur from our labs as theirs.
This is a balanced account contrasting barbells and kettle bells They are different, with different effects. I think the most important things for older people are lack of injury, adequate recovery, and persistence.
Yeah 45 minute walk with 5 of the 10 grands is great exercise , and often having to carry the 3 year old home beats kettle bells any day.

Re: Kettlebells
I’ve been doing kettlebells for more than ten years, mostly swings and the fiendish Turkish Getups.
I used to throw out my lower back every few years and live in fear of the next episode. Since kettlebells I haven’t hurt my back and my back feels gloriously solid.
There are many good YouTubes for proper technique.

Re: (1) – The stench of petty corruption is all over this administration. Draining the swamp indeed.
Bauxite,
The difference between Trump Admin and Biden Admin is that Trump gets rid of fraudsters and Biden did absolutely nothing – Nada – Zero to them. Start with the Hunter story that the D’s buried.
Yeah, whatever.
Try again, dude.
I would add that the ENTIRE point of the “Biden” administration was CORRUPTION.
Hands down.
Er, make that “VIRTUOUS CORRUPTION”.
(For the BENEFIT of, of, of…all the right folks…)

That jab at The Great Orange Whale was pathetic even for you.
Nerf harpoons now?
Kimberly Guilfoyle should immediately identify as a man and change her name to Hunter Biden.
The scandal will disappear immediately.
Speaking of Pennsylvania. The governor of Pa, Josh Shapiro, is running for re-election as a democrat.
The democrats are the party of anti-semites and Shapiro is Jewish.
He also took offense at the question – “was he ever an agent of the Israeli govt., – he was asked while being vetted as a VP candidate of Kamala Cackling Harris.
And yet, he is a democrat.
Un F’n believable.

Turns out they did solve this one. I did not know.

Today, Cody A. Balmer pleaded guilty to attempted murder of Governor Josh Shapiro, aggravated arson, 22 counts of arson, one for each of the 22 victims within the residence endangered by the arson, burglary, and related offenses. Judge Deborah E. Curcillo accepted a plea agreement offered by District Attorney Fran Chardo. After the defendant’s guilty plea to all counts, he received the agreed upon sentence of not less than 25 years or more than 50 years of imprisonment in a state correctional institution [state prison].Balmer will not be eligible for parole until April 13, 2050. His maximum sentence of imprisonment is 50 years. Balmer was 38 years old at the time of the criminal conduct. He will be first eligible for parole at the age of 63. If he receives parole, he would remain under supervision, through April 13, 2075, at the age of 88. The factual basis for the guilty plea is below.

Ballmer was upset about the Gaza War and angry towards Shapiro. Family members said he had a history of mental issues.
I don’t think Shapiro is going anywhere as a Dem candidate for president for obvious reasons, but he does have a firm grip on his position governor of PA. Which I imagine is enough to keep him in the Dem fold.
I have had a bad feeling about that girl for a long time. I guess Trump did reconsider, although a bit late.

Kimberly Guilfoyle is an embarrassment and I am happy she will no longer represent my country.
I don’t see Fetterman changing parties. He’s still too attached to a lot of the ideology of the left, despite all the common sense takes and pulling back the wool he’s been doing in recent years. If it’s not impossible (although I think it is), he might have a positive effect in his own party.
Re: 10,000 hours of practice
Some years ago Malcolm Gladwell popularized the idea (not his, not exactly what the originator intended) that a magic 10,000 hours of practice would get one to mastery. I was immediately suspicious. As far as I was concerned that was just the price of admission and no guarantee.
Yeah, the bloom is off that rose. Attempts to replicate showed too many other variables were involved such as the type of practice and, ahem, the talent possessed.
Yeah, 10,000 strides won’t get you mastery of a marathon, or a half marathon. Even if you rinse and repeat and repeat …..
But 10,000 Maniacs, that’s another matter.
I have no idea of Guilfoyle’s financial situation. But I always thought people moving in those corridors had at least partly serious money. Should have been able to knock chunks off that bill. Asking for outside help was poor judgment.
