I must be wrong since a HUGE majority predict that it will be the largest landslide victory ever in the midterms—with the DEMs gaining the massive win and the House + Senate; however, as bad as the GOP is, I still ‘Feel’ that the GOP will keep the House and Senate.
The 26-page letter claims victory on behalf of Iran in the ongoing conflict initiated Feb. 28, 2026, by U.S. President Donald Trump. Notably, the letter is explicitly addressed to “the honorable people of the United States of America — the scholars, the students, and the members of the media.”
Iran has won the war!?!?! Er, OK. A 26-page letter to the “honorable people of the United States of America” claiming that the Iranian chant “Death to America” is “misunderstood, insisting the phrase is directed at American political leadership and not the American people at large.”
Not a biggie indicator, but Iran is clearly suffering in this letter, i.e., Trump is holding on—even with many GOP voters not pleased with much of anything from him. Yes, gas is up here in my area of Florida, but $6 extra for a full tank of gas isn’t that bad either, IMHO, and note that I get less than one thousand Gringo Dollars a month in SS.
Midterms are close and Trump could still screw the “holding” up, but I don’t think so…so to speak whilst predicting.
You’ll likely find today’s lead editorial from the WSJ interesting.
October the 1st and here in our part of Texas, Boerne, we are finally getting some rain, lots of it. Two inches in the last hour and a half and more coming along the next few days. The last time we got some decent rain was on July 15th when we got a bit too much, over a foot of rain in less than a day. Recently our grass has started to brown and become crispy underfoot so if we don’t get a huge deluge we will become nice and green once more. Some years when the rain is sparse our trees turn brown from dehydration not seasonal stuff and this year we will have a bit of fall foliage.
I was out at the local Boerne Park Lake yesterday and there were four fire trucks and two fire boats and one of the firemen told me that they were just checking out all of their rescue gear and doing some training since they expect to be needed over the next few days. October is really moving in with our seasonal change this year. Here’s hoping and praying that folks are smart enough to not drive through high water and get themselves caught in low areas and the nearby Guadalupe goes up over its banks again.

I heard Sen. John Kennedy from Louisianna on air recently. He is something of a blunt and even crude guy, but he said, “Socialism is for morons!” Well, Yeah!!
I’m not sure if that sort of thing is ideal, but much of this weak-ass pablum I hear coming out of the mouths of GOP members certainly won’t cut it.

Our treasury bonds have been losing value recently, and yields rising to worrisome levels. 5.3% on the 10 yr. Longer term yields may have topped out and started dropping today. Total federal spending on debt interest payments hit $1.02T this fiscal year, making it the 2nd largest spending line item after social security payouts.
I was shocked to hear that the Swiss 10 yr. bond has a yield in the range of 0.56% to 0.61%. Almost a factor of ten less than ours. The hard money Swiss franc versus the US dollar funny money.

Israel warned Britain about a pending operation by Iran-sponsored agents, according to the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “We gave the Brits the intel that there was going to be an attack, an Iranian-sponsored attack,” Mr Netanyahu said.
US President Donald Trump said the suspects had been “under view” by British and American authorities for some time, while Marco Rubio, the US Secretary of State, said foreign actors were “clearly” involved.
The story is still confusing as to what the suspects were really up to. Some suggest that the operation was a dry run for something serious. Fairford is an RAF airbase, but it has been used by US forces in the Iran War.
There’s also this odd wrinkle:

… It has also been disclosed that one of the five suspects raised the alarm [called the UK police on 999 line] himself, further clouding the motivations behind the incident.

OldTexan,
Been watching the radar all day, looks like you’re getting it harder than we are in the capital area. Thankfully I haven’t seen anything that looks like the ungodly rain rates that happened last July.
Don’t think the Mossad would have warned the British government, such as it is.
(That would have been a futile act if it had even been contemplated…and the Mossad would have been accused, most likely, of “alarmism” and/or interfering with British sovereignty(!)—once again, such as it is.)
Far more likely that they warned the local farmers…
(Guess we’ll have to consult with our always-reliable Brit commenters for the real dope.)
@Barry Meislin: Far more likely that they warned the local farmers…
From what I’ve read it was a local farmer’s 999 call that caused the police to swing into action.
Oddly, the police seemed to have ignored the apparently inside man among the suspects who called 999 a half-hour before.
Maybe the police (and intelligence?) were monitoring the affair and waiting to learn what the gang was up or to catch them in the act. But when the farmer called, the authorities felt forced to act sooner than planned.
Make it make sense.
Ah, Huxley, that was merely a tongue-in-cheek blurb (of mine)—sorry about that…
Fact is, that NO ONE can believe ANYTHING that emanates from the British Labour government…or its thoroughly despicable media bulldogs; though one can certainly see what it is they’ve been doing and what they’re up to (AKA the “endgame”).

Oct, and the temps will be in the lower 80’s here in my part of Colorado. No rain here either.
Our local rep, Gabe Evens, is a first termer. How he won last time is a mystery, but glad he did. His opponent this time is a DSA guy running in disguise. Unfortunately, he has a good chance of winning. There have been ads against Evens on YouTube for over a year. Dems throwing big money in this race.

I’m an optimistic kinda guy, but I am worried about the midterms and I haven’t noticed the forceful GOP campaigning I think is necessary.
However, Trump now says he is about to undertake a 32-day midterm blitz tour of the country. I should hope so!

Sort of grossly amusing is the character of the people to whom, in a fit of absent-mindedness, we’ve entrusted the task of sorting the labor market.
