  1. Well I’m having fun. Heavy wind. A transformer on the main road exploded starting a fire in front of my house. Power is out. I had our generac genset that blew up last Xmas replaced three weeks ago but the controller board failed immediately and we are waiting for parts. So no power except for a large Jackery 5000 battery. I was thinking of an auto transfer switch for the battery, I think I have just been sold.

  2. Not sure what the Daily Mail/JL Partners poll is, but: Americans hand Trump brutal marks on Iran war as MAGA base cracks over cost of living fears…

More than four in ten Trump supporters who backed him in the 2024 election said the president is not doing enough to address inflation or US costs of living crisis, according to the exclusive new poll.

From a Cost of living disapproval chart: Cost of living & Inflation 49%, Actions of ICE/Immigration enforcement 40%, His manner and approach to governing 32% (that’s not as bad as I would’ve guessed), Cuts to Medicaid 27%, Trade policy & tariffs 26% ….

The Daily Mail/JL Partners survey polled a nationally representative sample of more than one thousand registered US voters between the dates of August 28 and August 31, with a 3.1 percent margin of error.

  3. I’m not keen on any child glued to the TV like that…entranced?
    Mom’s right there…read your daughter a book.

  4. @Karmi:Not sure what the Daily Mail/JL Partners poll is,

but you’ll spread their narrative without first looking that up…

The Daily Mail/JL Partners survey polled a nationally representative sample of more than one thousand registered US voters between the dates of August 28 and August 31, with a 3.1 percent margin of error.

So 1000 registered voters and not likely voters, already garbage in terms of how an election might go. Then sampled nationwide without information about how they weighted. The weighting model is the primary driver of these results and is going to overwhelm their “3.1% margin of error”.

Legacy media only pays for polls so they can use them to push narratives. They are not trying to find out what people think, but persuade you that people think the way their narrative says they think.

  5. Bring.It.On!
(How do you say that in Spanish?)

“…Millions are out on the streets right now in towns and cities across Spain in a mass protest against Pedro Sánchez and the invasion of Ceuta…”

Enough of that lying, thieving, smarmy SOB.

  6. HOW TO INVENT FAKE NEWS — a lesson taught by Dan Bonjino today!

Bongino Show 2Sep26 — HOW FAKE NEW GETS INVENTED
    SEE video from 9:30 to 17m https://bongino.com/ep-2587-have-we-reached-peak-crazy

The Presidential Plane From Turkey gets turned into comic book New journalism, where the “reporter” becomes the central character in — breathlessly uttered— an even bigger news story!

Alex Brandon, AP photographer, recounts the rising mysteries in Istanbul.

A new Netflix program, “The Heroes of Journalism,” is using this non-event to sell us on the great virtues of our elite journalists bravely telling Truth to Power! Smacking down the Oppressors Ruling Over Us. (Cringe)

This Bonjino episode’s account closes by adding how online influencers are copying this comic book “news” story book-telling.

For example, an OnlyFans star shows up at a trial — it must be the Lindsey Clancy trial — and steals the same tools to sell herself as the main news.

Hilarity ensues among the Bongino production team!

  7. In the early days of the web, when bloggers were just folks in pajamas and influencers hadn’t been thought of and anything online lost money, you could often get a less-biased account of what was going on in the US from UK publications.

But those days are long gone. All the big UK outlets are aware of their American audience and attempt to pander to it and/or shape its views with selective narration. Note that Karmi’s link is to the “US Edition” and all the UK outlets seem to have one. Sometimes you can catch the difference in slant by switching to the UK edition.

  8. Daily Mail leans right, in case that’s the objection. I post links from right and left and use betting markets too; a source isn’t worthless because it prints numbers people here dislike. Niketas Choniates @ September 2, 2026 at 4:21 pm’s RV-vs-LV / weighting critique is fair on that one survey, but that isn’t a reason to toss every poll or every bookie.

I’ve had the GOP holding Congress for a while. That’s hanging by a thread. Generic ballot and the markets are starting to look like Democrats take at least the House. Still a lot of time left.

  9. Gloria Steinem has died at age 92. She evidently remained lucid until the end and appears to have been in passable physical condition up until recently. Quite fortunate, she.
    ==
I doubt you could find one satisfactory cause among all that she promoted. (She did publish some engaging magazine articles prior to 1970).

    ==
Her sister was married for about 60 years, produced six children, and built a business. She died in 2008. Some people use the time they are allotted quite well.

  10. I am struggling to think of any valid use for any national poll that isn’t just narrative propagation. Nothing at the national level is decided by a simple majority of voters nationwide.

There are no national plebiscites, initiatives, or referenda.

The President is elected by the Electoral College. For a national poll to tell you anything it would have to be broken out and weighted by the respondents’ state’s Electoral College votes. This is never done.

In the Senate, only 1/3 of seats are even up for elections. For a national poll to tell you anything about the Senate, it would have to be broken out and weighted by how many Senators are up for election in each respondents’ state (16 or 17 states would not count at all) and this is also never done.

In the House, most seats are safe for incumbents thanks to gerrymandering. For a national poll to tell you anything about the House, it would have to be weighted by which respondents are in seats are “up for grabs” with most of them not being so, and this too is never done.

Since in each case the one simple thing that would actually make these polls meaningful is never done, I have to conclude the people who commission these polls don’t actually want to know, not enough to pay for what would be needed to find out. Consequently they are only interested in narrative propagation.

A national poll that actually tried to understand anything would at minimum have to get a random sample of 10 – 100 people in all 435 Congressional districts. So 5,000 – 50,000 respondents. And the results for each district would have a very wide margin of error, something like 10% – 30%. You couldn’t just sample from the nation at random because the smallest states would either be way over-represented or way under-represented.

  11. That was useful. Thank you very much.
