Platner officially drops out and proves what a class act he is

Note the sign-off. After all the more formal jargon, we have this:

I think one of his motives with the sign-off was to embarrass the Democrat politicians who initially supported him and then abandoned him. Then again, he could have done a lot worse there at the end, this being Platner.
So we have those two big progressive causes – anti-ICE and pro-Palestinian. What does “up the hearts” mean? It seems to be a reference to the Portland (Maine), soccer team, the Portland Hearts of Pine. And “Solidarity Forever” is an old labor movement song:

Will Platner manage to keep himself in the spotlight somehow? I think he’d certainly like to.
He means Republican “Billionaires”, not Dem ones I presume.
Peel back the layers and ‘there you go’ the Nazi stuff on his skin makes sense, and Plat-man doesn’t like ‘the Jews’. He also wants to have Ice Intercourse or something, just F*ck em! That resignation letter does not speak well for a man who thought he would and should be a U.S. Senator and it turns out he is just another spoiled Jane Fonda wannabe jerk. Rude, Crude and Tattooed !

His wife worked for his campaign, seems likely she’s where he is on Israel. As for “free Palestine” ADL declares that statement not necessarily antisemitic. If they break up I don’t think it will be over Israel or ‘the Jews’.

Life on politics didn’t turn out to be his oyster.
I expect he is done with national politics. He could turn up in local politics but that doesn’t pay nearly as well. I would be surprised, shocked even, if the delay between suspending his campaign and officially withdrawing from the race was for anything other than securing a commitment that Maine would not pursue sexual assault/rape charges against him. My understanding is that he was recruited by the Democrats, that he did not pursue the Senate of his own accord. If true this makes it more likely that we have seen and heard the last of him. IMO.
I will note 2 things
1) To the best of my knowledge although Mr. Platner has said he will leave the race he has NOT yet filed the paperwork. He has until 5PM on Monday the 13th to do so either by post or in person in Augusta. Until that happens he IS the candidate no matter what other statements he makes. Rumors are he wants some control in his replacement, seems like a bit of blackmail in return for what he likely sees as betrayal from the Democrat National party figures.
2) We were vacationing in the Augusta area last week. Augusta has many nice restaurants, so that was often where we ended up dining. There were several little storefronts mixed in. Many of them had Platner material on them (especially one obviously looney left book store) as of Monday AM. It was GONE after lunch on the day of his withdrawal. Apparently the Oyster signal had gone out.
To paraphrase “It ain’t over until the fat alleged oysterman files the paperwork”. Part of me wonders if he is enough of a vindictive narcissistic SOB to stick it to the Democat party of Maine. “Oops I forgot to file the paperwork to withdraw”. Another part of me hopes he is said jerk 🙂 .
The two young Yalies who recruited and “vetted” Platner apparently thought they were getting someone who was malleable enough that he would do what they wanted: be a male AOC. And from what I have seen of him, he would have been a reliable voice and vote for everything Bernie has pursued for his career.
His list in the letter of things he stood for — affordable housing, an end to money influencing politicians, strong labor unions and “change” — strikes me as incredibly dishonest. He is financially dependent on his mother, who apparently gave him his house and a regular “income”, he was recruited by wealthy politicians with a lot of money behind them, and he certainly would not have represented change except maybe from what Republicans were calling for. There was nothing honest about the man.
I’m not saying that’s terribly unusual for politicians, but I am wondering how long voters can be taken in by such dishonesty. Even for strongly partisan Democrats, didn’t anyone question his honesty? Or was their eagerness to replace Susan Collins so all-consuming that they could overlook the red flags?
Oh why do I even ask — this is a microcosm of how Democrats have dealt with Trump. Lie, use law fare, buy people — all to replace Trump. And so far, it has only made him stronger. I’m not a great fan of Collins, but for the few times she has NOT voted with the GOP, she is better for the country than Platner would have been.
