Connectivity problems seem to have resolved – but it’s too darn hot
I had major Wifi connectivity problems today and had to finish and publish the previous post on my cellphone. That’s a far-from-ideal situation and quite frustrating. But all seems well now.
Usually the connection here is pretty strong and pretty reliable, but every now and then – well, you know. We’re not having storms today, either. No, this is what we’re having:
And I’ll throw in this:
Hey, why not some Ann Miller?
ADDENDUM: At least I don’t live in a town or country where they tell me I can’t use my AC.

checking in at 99F here in the NC Wilderness. “feels like” at 102F
in other news, the wifi is ok

Re: “Heat Wave”
Usually I stand by the original. No disrespect to Martha Reeves & The Vandellas, but Linda Ronstadt really blows the doors off with her version.
–Linda Ronstadt, “Heat Wave (Live in Hollywood, CA, 4/24/1980) [Official HD Video]”

Damn, she was hard to beat. Nice backup from the boys too.
Neo, Thanks for the scorching video of Ann!
A high of 62F on the Monterey Bay coastline. Currently in Marina. Is there summer happening somewhere?? 😉
Remember the concept & threat of a fatal “nuclear winter.” They omitted the oceans in that computer model. Without the frigid Monterey Bay, I’d be sweltering too.
Hot here in western NC, AC kicked out at bedtime last night. Fixed now! Sleep may happen.
Had a heat wave here in Florida a few days ago…it hit 99-100. Back down to the normal 91. 🙂
After 45 years in New England, I NEVER complain about FL heat. I’ll take it anytime over 15 degrees, snow, and a Nor’easter 50mph winds
66 with bright sunshine and big billowing white clouds.
Ethel Waters—great singer. The song talks about the mercury up to 93—which may be a heat wave in the Northeast—but here in TX, 93 is COOL in July and August. Like physicsguy says, sunbelt heat is an acceptable tradeoff compared to NE winters. Or as a relative in TX once told me, it is easier to wipe off sweat than to wipe off ice.
To cool off from the summer: a song from where it is now winter: Julio Iglesias sings tango: Yira, Yira. (sung in Spanish w Italian subtitles)
103 was the high at the Jersey Shore today with predictions tomorrow will be hotter.
But Linda didn’t have the Funk Brothers.
Kate, I’m glad your AC got fixed! Been there!
Gringo, “It is easier to wipe off sweat than to wipe off ice.”
Do tell! Nice quote.
And my bones complain more in frigid temps.
About the Ann Miller video–We once saw “Kiss Me Kate” in its original 3D format at a local theater. That scene is particularly fun because you feel like you are in the room and the energy of the band and the dance is palpable. I enjoyed the movie, but the 3D can be disconcerting at times.
Just the start of summer…world citizens most always complain about the “new” heat. Last prison I was in actually had AC…around 1978/9, but rest had been sweat boxes. Hottest cell ever was Suwannee County jail in Live Oak, FL. Sweat and no air movement at night. Second hottest was Lowell prison (possibly tied with Live Oak) but the crowds in that smallest cell ever, a “Hot Box,” with 3-5 of us in something like a 4 or 5 foot wide by 6-7 feet long distracted somewhat from the heat.
[NOTE from neo: I decided that, as an 80th birthday present to Karmi, I’d let him back for a while and see how it goes. Thus, this comment.]
I also vote for Martha & the Vandellas. Linda Ronstadt’s singing grates on my ears.
Hi Karmi – Happy Birthday!
