Insane man decides to commit suicide by Secret Service near the White House
A crazed gunman who belived he was Jesus Christ pulled out a revolver and opened fire outside the White House Saturday night, before he was quckly taken down by a barrage shots from the Secret Service, sources said.
Nasire Best, 21, fired at a checkpoint at about 6:10 p.m. after being seen pacing in a strange manner up and down 17th St. Northwest, sources told The Post. He only got off a few shots before he was shot and killed in a hail of bullets from federal officers.
At least one bystander was hit and seriously wounded in the fusillade, the sources said.
While a motive for the attack hasn’t been confirmed, sources said Best is a mentally troubled individual who was well-known to the Secret Service for repeatedly loitering around various entry posts and who has violated a previous court order to stay away from the White House.
In case you’re wondering why this guy was wandering around at liberty, it’s really hard to involuntarily commit someone for long. This is what had happened with Best:
Best … had previously been involuntarily committed on June 26, 2025, for obstructing vehicular traffic at 15th Street and E Street NW, before being arrested again on July 10, 2025, for Unlawful Entry. …
In that incident, Best bypassed a restricted White House pedestrian control post by walking through an exit turnstile lane — and made crazed statements when D.C. police and Secret Service agents detained him.
“[Best] claimed he was Jesus Christ and that he wanted to get arrested,” court records of the incident said.
My guess is that he was involuntarily committed, stayed a few days and got slightly stabilized on meds, and refused to stay after that. Then he got out and stopped taking any medication, and now one person is seriously wounded (another has been reported slightly wounded) and Best himself is dead.
At least he didn’t get close to the White House. But it’s not as though there wasn’t plenty of warning with this guy. I wonder whether he was armed in his previous encounters; perhaps not, or he might have been charged with something serious and detained longer. But there’s a limit to how long that can go on involuntarily.
I find it hard to believe he possessed the firearm legally.
Apparently the CIA’s MKULTRA effort in the 60s to create programmable assassins didn’t work as well as hoped.
That’s OK. Just saturating the media with “Trump is Hitler” messages works pretty well to inspire lone nuts to come out of the work to do the job.

‘Suicide by cop’ makes it sound like this was entirely his idea, and I don’t buy that. His thinking may be disordered but he seems aware of what will provoke a reaction by the DC police and Secret Service if the claim he wants to be arrested is true. It is not hard to imagine that he may be subtly or not so subtly encouraged by the attention previous assassins have been given as well as other general commentary on how people would react if harm did come to the President.
Who wants to bet our poorly trained DEI based secret service shot the bystander who has since died. The perp had 6 shots at best. Reports of hundreds fired . This has to stop.
“This has to stop.” Really? Why does it “have to stop”? Has there been some recent development in humanity’s progress (he said with a smirk) that now allows us to prevent bad things from happening or prevent people from doing bad things, because if that’s so, I missed it. Besides, it’s guaranteed that the bystander died from one or more of the bullets fired by the SS or whoever was tasked with guarding the WH. It is possible that more training might have prevented it and possible that the erroneous fusillade was unleashed by one or more DEI hires, but if you have ever attempted to plink a moving target-or even a stationary one-from a distance, off hand, you might know how difficult that is. Trust me, the slightest deviation from 100% on-target at anything more than contact distance means your bullet is going to be outside the 10 ring. And if an innocent bystander happens to be standing in the line of fire, he’s going to absorb the errant round. Actually, I agree that there is something that “has to change”, viz., the constant drumbeat of democrat propaganda painting Trump as the source of all evil and the Hitler who, as we all know, should be killed before he “destroys our precious democracy.” But it won’t because those evil bastards have paid no price for their unhealthy, deadly rhetoric. Lunatics like this poor schlub are always going to be with us (and in greater abundance thanks to democrat laxity in enforcing anti-drug laws and hog-tying police) but without the continual drumbeat of democrat Trump hate in the daily media, they aren’t going to fancy themselves a martyr in some cause. He would instead of choosing the environs of the WH likely have shot up his neighborhood before being taken out by some LEO. Come to think of it, it’s probably a stroke of good fortune that he tried to shoot up the WH which is surrounded by heavily armed guards as opposed to most residential neighborhoods that are rather sparsely patrolled. Had he decided to start bangin’ in his ‘hood, he likely would have taken out a whole lot more victims. Every cloud has a sliver lining, don’t you know?

What has to change is poorly trained law enforcement doing mag dumps. Were they DEI ,don’t know , but considering what has happend at the assasination attempts that’s the way to bet. Once you fire that weapon you better know where the bullet is going or don’t fire. Lack of training is what has to stop.

Last night and today Fox News Radio said that one bystander what shot by Secret Service or law enforcement and died, and another bystander was shot and suffered minor injuries.
They also mentioned that the “good guys” fired a very high number of rounds.
You can’t believe everything you hear.
This afternoon on Fox news hourly update they said the condition of “the wounded bystander” had improved to “critical.” No mention of any other wounded bystander.

In a life or death situation you fire until you are sure the threat is neutralized IIRC.

I suspect that this particular would-be shooter (if that’s an accurate description) would probably have been just as likely to take a shot at Biden or Obama or Bush or Clinton as Trump. Or so I’ll view it unless some new information indicates otherwise.

Local NBC affiliate reports the bystander has ‘non-life threatening’ injuries and is in ‘serious but stable condition’.
I spent a month in a hospital full of guys who hadn’t died from various insults from munitions, as the saying goes. They got better, more or less. They were never the same. They just weren’t dead. So when someone is shot and….recovers….it only means he isn’t dead. More than likely, something doesn’t work the way it should, presuming it’s still attached.
So while this unnamed person isn’t dead, there is a non-zero chance that in the next few years he may be wishing he were.

I think we can wait until some clarity emerges.
The general move from revolvers to semi-automatics by LE over the past few decades (my agency did it in 1990) saw a change in training that replaced the old initial “2-shot”, or double tap, practice to one of 3 shots. The number of available rounds was upped for 6 to 15 (or so) before reload. The underlying rule was to end the hazard, which may take more than the initial burst.
When you have multiple officers involved, you have each officer firing the “training approved” shots. Sometimes the first volley works to end the threat, sometimes it does not. The total number of shots grows quickly in those circumstances.
