A rather elaborate deception – but the grandparents seem awfully sweet:

One of my newer friends is a lady who had triplets long ago. I presumed fertility treatments were involved. But she recounted her obstetrics visit early in her pregnancy where the doc told her that her hormone levels indicated triplets. She said she almost crashed her car on the way home.
I love grandma’s reaction: “I only brought one present!”. 🙂
Here’s a higher resolution video of Allen running through the metal detector. A police officer fires at him and based on where Allen’s shotgun is aimed might have shot him. The police officer fires at least two rounds.
Brian E. Is that the one where the police dog follows the shooter into the anteroom? The only LEO present that seemed to know what was what before his handler led him away?
Most of the LEOs present seem to be focused on the detector being taken down. The dog wasn’t.
On a related note, John Thune is one of the most corrupt politicians of our time.
Writers Worth Rediscovering: Rose Wilder Lane
An interesting political thinker as well as a novelist and biographer. She was the daughter of Laura Ingalls Wilder, author of the ‘Little House on the Prairie” books
Brian, the officer fired 4 times. There is more video showing that.
Banned Lizard:
The stumbling block hasn’t been time. It’s been that there are a few GOP senators who refuse to vote to override the filibuster and put the nuclear option in place, and without them a simple majority for the SAVE Act won’t do the trick.
It’s the mirror image of the problem the Democrats had during the Biden administration when Manchin and Sinema wouldn’t vote to override the filibuster, which prevented Democrats from passing their most extreme bills.
Trump just sent a letter to Congress declaring that since the ceasefire that hostilities are over with Iran. I take this as a very clever move vis the war powers act. Now, if Iran does something like firing on a ship, it gives the US the excuse to start up again and the “clock ” is reset to 60 days again.

James Lileks has a new Substack post up, written about the closing out of his household (movers etc.). It seemed sad and poignant.
The Substack subscription process frustrated my attempt to read the entire thing.
I don’t follow him closely. I gather his wife divorced him after a marriage of some duration?
Om: You’re welcome.
Huxley: From what I’ve read it seems she sent him a letter while he was visiting a friend in the UK telling him it was over. Seemed sudden. She’s moving to AZ to be near elderly mother. Recently he mentioned her giving him separation papers to sign.
He is a good writer. Hope he can steer out of the skid.
Disguested:
Again, thanks for the link to the Bleat; that video was indeed very moving and well done. Touched me too.
The Substack prose was also worth the annoyance to get to. Well worth the trouble. I found some hope, but still so sad.
I may subscribe, he is a fine writer. I have one of his books “Interior Desecrations;” atrocities of the 70’s.
Back to twins: I’m a twin and I had twins. My wife and I kept everyone guessing about the sex/gender (or however you refer to it these days). Boy and a girl! Most special day in my life.
Pretty high bar.
What a wonderful video. My wife and I have a pair of twins, but we told both our parents after 10 weeks. Nice memories.

Meanwhile, Scott Presler remarks that the US Senate doesn’t have time to pass the SAVE America Act, but they do have time for a 9-day vacation.

Om: Did you see the Bleat post today with video? The end and the beginning. My eyes started to well up at one point. I really feel for him.

No, I didn’t see the Bleat.
Thank you so much for the link.

He is a fine writer, but not as good as Neo.
