I follow the Big Bear Eagles, Jackie and Shadow, on Facebook. It has been interesting to learn about eagles’ mating and nesting habits. But it gets nerve-wracking — and a little depressing. Jackie and Shadow have only had a very few babies fledge and leave the next. Their first clutch of eggs this year was already eaten by ravens. “Pip watch” has started for the second clutch. Last year, three eggs hatch, but one of the hatchlings died. I think the other two did fledge. I think last year, neither of the eggs hatched. They are “famous” and have their own Wikipedia entry. According to which, by “February 2024, they had laid 14+ eggs together, five of which hatched, with two or three of the eaglets surviving into adulthood.”
Apparently, that is actually pretty good odds for eagles.
The Daily Mail is reporting that over a 100 missiles were launched at the USS Abe Lincoln, and all were taken out. While there’s been success, I wonder how much “ammo” the Iranians still have, and their ability to launch missiles and drones seems to have not been brought down to zero. Until that happens, they are going to continue.
In addition, I’m not sure if either the US or Israel took into account the possibility/probability of Putin resupplying the Mullahs with significant amounts of ordinance but that seems to be what’s happening.
Bummer (as they say in officialese)…
My morning news is saying that both AOC and Bernie S are promoting legislation that would STOP all construction of AI datacenters. They are citing increasing electricity costs impacting average folks, and worries about a diminishing jobs market in the future.
A big topic in the financial markets over the last 6 months or so, is the stupendous amount of money being poured into the pursuit of AI. Can these companies actually get a decent return on investments of this magnitude, is one of the questions.
Now think like a sleazy politician… How can we tap into a portion of all that cash? Answer: Extort them with proposed legislation that would shut it all down.
I wonder how much “ammo” the Iranians still have,
I expect there will be dribbles for the rest of the war. Those last few nines after 99% are hard to get. The final resolution lies elsewhere.
Temu Cruise Missile Xi-01 fails again.
On the video: We have two bluebird boxes and at least six birds hanging around. Beautiful, beautiful birds.
Chuck,
100 missiles are not dribbles, nor are the ones hitting Tel Aviv, and the Kuwait airport.
When I first heard that the US / Israeli operation against Iran had begun, I sent a text to this liberal I know who has a Ukrainian flag in his front yard. I said ” Well I guess Putin won’t be getting any Iranian drones to use on Ukraine anytime soon.”
He never really addressed that observation.
( I’m not sure he specifically believed Trump was working for Putin or not.) I wonder about that crowd . How they process Putin’s supposed puppet Trump attacking Iran?
It seems every US military base should have something like the AGR-20 missiles on standby to use against larger drones. These can be mounted on helicopters.

“Tucker Carlson calls for U.S. to share power with China”
Retired Navy Capt. Jim Fanell rejected Mr. Carlson’s call for sharing power with Beijing.
“The notion that power could be shared between the United States of America and the People’s Republic of China is absurd,” Capt. Fanell said.
“Such a suggestion demonstrates either a complete naivete about the Chinese Communist Party or adherence to a pathology [that is] totally anathema to America’s constitutional foundation.”
Capt. Fanell said the dictum of the CCP is “I win, you lose.”
I guess there is no bottom to the idiocy that is now Tucker Carlson.
It’s hard to separate out ideology from selling out in people like Tucker. But I suspect that there might be an element of sincerity here. I suspect, I just suspect, that Tucker is desperately looking for some path forward that lets America ‘come home’. Tucker has morphed over the years through various public personae, but he started out as a more or less libertarian-leaning, and I suspect that that’s where he actually kind of is. I also suspect that like a lot of ideologues subscribing to impractical ideologies, he gets desperate for some way, any way, to make it work.
‘If America could just disengage from the world, then maybe…maybe we could make a libertarian vision work’…or so I suspect his maybe-not-entirely-conscious thought processes run.
I could be wrong about all that, it’s always dangerous to ‘commit psychoanalysis’, to paraphrase George Will back in his saner days. It really doesn’t matter why, after all. But my suspicions run in those directions.

That’s the huge question.
