Happy Funny Valentine’s Day — 10 Comments

  1. Old jazz musician joke: How many jazz singers does it take to sing My Funny Valentine?
    Apparently all of them.

  2. donnyf,

That’s very funny! I don’t get the song’s appeal, but apparently I am very much in the minority.

  3. Julie London used to be married to Jack Webb, a/k/a Sgt. Joe Friday (not me). My grandmother used to be the publisher and general manager of a Los Angeles television weekly called “TV-Radio Life,” which was acquired by TV Guide in 1958. She and Jack Webb were quite friendly in those days. My dad was a Beverly Hills police detective back in the 1950s, and let’s just say that his views of TV, movie, and music celebrities were at odds with those of my grandmother.

  4. The Squirrel Lady has a new video out, celebrating Valentine’s Day:

–“Squirrel-entine’s day with the most adorable heart stealers”

She has put out a wooden tray in the shape of a heart, filled with nuts. One by one — the squirrels take turns — they come up to the window to take a nut or two. One of them insists on being hand-fed.

Consider the squirrels at the window sill…

  5. @Barry Meislin: Ah yes, the love that dare not speak its name…

Or as Armistead Maupin, the “Tales of the City” author, put it:
    _____________________________

The love that dare not speak its name, but won’t shut up.
    _____________________________

Of course, Maupin was speaking of the San Francisco gay community in the 70s and its general loquaciousness. We understand that somewhat differently today.

  6. There is also Demi Moore singing the song in No Small Affair (1984). OK, not quite in the same category as the other singers listed.
